That’s a particularly grubby suit he’s wearing, like a used car salesman who’s got ideas above his station.

Seriously with his catastrophic failure everywhere else bar our place, the moons/stars/whole effing cosmos really must have aligned in our promotion season with him. It's actually quite remarkable.

It wasn't that long ago most of our fanbase were all wearing Owen Coyle masks and referring to him as god, you can definitely tell which posters on here wore the masks, they're still angry and upset 10 years later.

Never condoned the god status, never wore his mask but was delighted what he brought to our club. Then he sh4t on us from a great height and went off to be the legend that he was deemed to be down at NOTLOB. Prior to Phil Gartside passing away I was on a works training course at the whites hotel in the reebok, went out for a smoke and enjoyed chatting to Gartside, I asked if he was still in contact with old horseface Gartside laughed and said certainly not and elaborated on his poor training sessions with tippy tappy football.

Loved him when he was here.
Hated him when he left.
Laughed at his string of failures.
Take comfort from the fact he's cocked up his management career.
Couldn't give a shiny shite what he does next.

Neutral about him really, loved what he did for us, hated how he left us.
Re: Overweight failure on SSN
He led us to the promised land with such great entertainment. He also got us off to a flyer in the prem.
For that, he is a saviour.
Then to desert us, was poor but to strip us of everyone, in doing it was criminal.

Re: Overweight failure on SSN
I never wore a mask and never rated him. Horse Face came here and made a couple of tweaks to our squad and the lads played out of their skins to earn us promotion.
We entered the Premiership and we got off to a really good start, then Coyle jumped ship and left us in the lurch which took the wind out of our sails. It wasn't because he was a big loss in terms of our ability to compete, it was simply down to the uncertainty generated by his unexpected departure and the way he gutted our club, forcing us to rapidly adjust on the fly.
He pottered on at Bolton for the rest of the season, but when they opened the purse strings and gave him full reign to restructure their squad according to his heavenly vision he did a very poor job.
The Bolton board convened and decided that while poaching him had been a good strategic move that had weakend us and scuppered our chances he was a useless clown. So they got rid.
Burnley Football Club and the team he inherited made Owen Coyle look good. The fact that we weren't in a position to give him the freedom to transform the team made him look even better.
Dropping down was a bitter pill to swallow. However, if we had stayed up and if he had been given the finances to make the changes he wanted over a longer term we would have fared far worse.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and looking back the best thing Coyle ever did for us was to leave.

He was good then he went very sh-it would be my summary !
All of us enjoyed the 12 months under him we played well. We had great cup runs and a very exciting and unexpected promotion. The atmosphere and noise generated at the Turf has rarely been better.
But then he left and acted like a complete 2 faced c-unt. His limitations were quickly exposed and he went from one failure to the next - so much so that he is now hated pretty equally by at least 4 clubs in the north west !
I’m glad we had him and i’m glad he left

It's always amusing to see the lengths that people will go to to try and explain why this isn't the case.ClaretAndJew wrote:The man who was basically responsible for our current situation.
Re: Overweight failure on SSN
When I started this thread it was to try to examine why a serial failure despite plummeting to and failing in the Scottish leagues is brought on to discuss transfers in our Premier league. Alladyce/Redknapp and that sort who I am not keen on I will listen to as they have done the deals and have experience and are relatively successful but Coyle ?

The thing is, he ****** us off but he's why we are here now. The money from the PL ensured our survival, we were almost broke, Eagles signing would have took us under near enough, we even missed a payment I believe.aggi wrote:It's always amusing to see the lengths that people will go to to try and explain why this isn't the case.
He, along with the team of that time are why we are where we are.

If we are going down that route then I vote Brian Miller as manager of the Orient team and Ian Britton for scoring the goal that saved us from oblivion in 1987 as the reason we are here now. They've just as much if not more claim to that!
