Do UEFA take the Qualifying Rounds seriously?

Post by claptrappers_union » Thu Aug 09, 2018 10:19 pm

im disappointed in the quality of the tourements standards, considering its UEFA. I get that it’s the early rounds but the broadcasting as been disappointing, particularly the away ties. Why wasn’t this game available for fans in the UK? You’d think it’ll be shown on the UEFA website at least. There’s been no winners n the decision not to let anyone show it.

There’s no branding or anything. You’d think there would be a ‘house style’ for the matches, seems more like a organised friendly competition.

I get the impression that the clubs take it more seriously than the organisers actually do.

I thought the home club owns the rights and the reason its probably not picked up is because the price it would cost a TV company to buy the rights produce the program wouldn't be worth it for the revenue gained.

Seems like a simple case of market forces and supply and demand rather than it not being taken seriously

You can’t force broadcasters to pay for it and it was available live and legal on youtube. The broadcaster was TRT 1HD and with youtubes servers there was no buffering.

I assumed the YouTube channel was not a legitimate feed, mine went off after 30 mins and I couldn’t access the broadcasters site as I assumed the it was overloaded.

Anyway, my point remains, the production quality wasn’t great and there no English commentary. You would thought UEFA would’ve supplied this.

By main point is that if you tuned in tonight you wouldn’t no it was a UEFA game

UEFA are only interested in the CL. Europa League only gets decent exposure at the semi final stage

It's a qualifier though, in the same way the FA Cup qualifiers played between Shaw Lane Aquaforce and Colne are more low key than the FA Cup proper.

Branding? You were disappointed at the lack of branding? I'm baffled.

It just doesn’t seem to feel that your watching a game associated with the UEFA Cup that’s all. There’s not even a logo on the perimeter signage or anything. You get that even before the first round proper of the FA Cup.

claptrappers mine went off too, to my consternation, but I just logged out went back into You Tube and searched trt 1 again and there it was. The fact that the players on the pitch were clearly our usual chaps but the commentator was a Borat soundalike speaking Turkish made the whole experience satisfyingly exotic. When it comes to watching football in a foreign country the more crackly the commentator's telephone line and the more fuzzy the picture the better for me...World Cup 70 was the zenith. If anything I thought the production values too high !

Even if we get to the group stages. TV coverage for us will be minimal as Chelsea and Arsenal enter the fray

BT have it from there and every other year they've shown all English sides.

Up to the home clubs in the qualifying rounds - but it was available via Youtube just as the Aberdeen away game was.

BT Sport have exclusive rights from group stage on - don't they show all the English teams?

This. I loved it. Who needs English commentary anyway. My wife had been putting the little ‘un to bed and walked in during half time when all the adverts were playing. Took her a couple of minutes to realise while she was looking at her phone, but she suddenly looked up and said ‘what language is our tv speaking?’

The YouTube feed on the TV was excellent. Well done to the UTC members who pointed it out. Didn’t drop out once on my TV. Clarets Player was a minute behind in the first half, but only 10 seconds in the second half.

So in terms of the qualification rounds, apart from make the draw and supply the referees, what do UEFA actually do?

**** me, I sound like a Brexiteer.

Well we know they’ve visited the Turf for a start. It’s not UEFA’s job the televise the match. If there’s a big enough audience then a tv company will pick it up. The match held very little interest in this country outside of a few thousands Burnley supporters, that’s not something that will attract a tv company.
