Was he on as a late sub? I’ve not seen him run like that in years, let alone in the 96th minute.

Even Dyche would be happy with that tracking back. Bally would be happy with that tackle and Trippier would be happy with that delivery.

League two standard....

Rooney has been shite for the last 6/7 years.

The US league may well be League 2 standard but that ball would be world class if kicked on Fulledge rec.

To be honest, League Two standard is just about right.
I was at the recent Orlando v. New England Revolution game and the standard of defending, particularly, was abysmal on both sides. The final score 3-3 suggests that it was an exciting, free-flowing game which, to some extent, it was but almost a laughable level.
On the plus side, the pre- match "yard" bars were fabulous - the BFC shirt was appreciated by many - and the atmosphere inside the ground was amazing. There were four pits strung out behind the safe-standing end where cheerleaders, aka nutters, encouraged the end to sing for the whole 90 minutes, which they did. No away fans, of course, so quite nice not to hear the moronic stuff we have to put up with from the CFS.
No threats, no swearing, all positive. Different, yes. Boring, no.
Again, on the plus side, lots of young twentyish fans having a great night out including - yeehah - gangs of all-American girls who looked absolutely superb, vests and tiny shorts being their required dress code.
Beats a ******* down, February night any time but still not quite right.

Weak league that many players would look good in. He's there because he's no longer good enough for the PL and for cash alone. Has had his day and been a great player though.

Rooney is playing for the worst place team in MLS, MLS = League 2 = BS, these are to of the worst teams in that league, top teams in MLS are championship standard.

A great tackle followed by a fantastic pass, what’s not to like and applaud? It’s irrelevant who he was playing against, that is quality playing. He’s still a very, very good footballer and, tbh, I wouldn’t mind him playing for us.

What was interesting in that clip that Rooney was left to 'celebrate' alone.....none of the players complimented him on an incredible track back and subsequent pass that led to the goal....he almost looked out of place!

I like Wayne. He seems like a nice guy despite his misdemeanours over the years but like many other England players, the Premiership did nothing for his game. He looked like a world beater at an early age. I have seen it so many times .... a young British player who is potentially world class turned into an average player by the grind of the Prem!

Great effort that, regardless of the level. You couldn't ask for much more drama at the end of a game than saving what looked a certain goal for the opposition with a good tackle and then even going on to set up an assist seconds later.

At his peak he was world class, no doubt about it. He was pretty fast and strong as an ox, I agree the burn of the PL meant his legs went quicker and he lost a yard of pace quite early in his career compared to most. Fabulous player, all the accolades in the world and still hung out to dry by the media witch hunt, now Rooney has retired from International football, Sterling is the scapegoat.

I think people are not taking into account the distances travelled, changes in temperature and other things that make it a completely different challenge than English football.

Yes the defending may be poor but it's a far bigger test of mental resolve than most English club players face.

DC United still have a lot of home games to play because of new stadium.

Their league position may be false due to games in hand and having played a load of away games.

That's the other thing about MLS like NFL and their other sports - no promotion and relegation - It would be like all 92 English teams being split into conferences. You'd have Man City playing Bradford one week and Liverpool the next, so yes you'd have some mediocre teams and some Very Good teams.

Is it more of the case of the better players being spread too thinly around the teams?

So you might have teams with Championship level defense but a league two attack - up against teams with a Champions league level attack but with a conference level midfield.

The US sporting system which tries to create a level playing field will always have this problem.

If they expand MLS further it'll get worse, unless they start using promotion and relegation and allow the richer team owners to stockpile the best players.

The better teams would be good champ teams but there’s some dross in the top flights as well. Hard to judge to due the “ celeb” signings they make . They are certainly athletic and don’t lack for fitness but technically can be a bit “ good division 1 “ type level though the keepers seem pretty decent . I saw 2 Orlando games last yr and it’s very much your typical us sports franchise experience they even had cheerleaders and a guy with a loud hailer , reminded me a little of Rugby league crowds but slightly less passion and far more laid back . A few away fans at one of the games but none vs Dallas I think. They’re quite noisy in a kinda Disneyland way ,but no raw passion

Why do League Two players not go there then? It's probably not league 1 standard, it's clearly got a wide range of players of differing abilities.

Landon Donovan was quite able to slot into Everton's team, on both occasions he was there.

It's still a relatively young league though compared to everyone else and it's up against some other sports that are massively more popular than football is.

The thing you need to remember about BWP is that his attitude has changed massively from living a student like existence (in his words) where football was very much relegated to an afterthought - playing games consoles into the wee small hours was his thing along with Junk food and he carried that attitude with him when he first went to the States.
He didn't take MLS seriously when he first went but Thierry Henry put him straight.

I think if we had a similar setup here - conferences, no relegation/promotion, designated players - in a first xi you'd probably have one or two World Class players, three or four Premier League standard players, one or two Championship level players and the rest league one or league two standard.

Many International teams probably have a mix of ability from World Class to mediocre throughout their squads.

It's not the same and probably never will be. The leagues, the stadia, the lack of moronic tribalism, the fabulous amenities are all different to our old-school, traditional ways of doing things. It's no more Disney, glitz, glamour and plastic than our beloved Premier League.
It is interesting to see an alternative - if only we could have the best of both.
