........we're out, they'll sit back and attempt to pick us off again.
And that's where my rather pessimistic, hard-earned betting money is going tonight.
I hate the thought of it but I'm a little wary of this lot being too clever for us.

We have shown over the last couple of seasons that we can live with the best the premiership has to offer, so why can we not have to much for the team that finished 3rd in the Turkish league?

Said it after the first game. Getting a 0-0 in turkey was a good effort with the circumstances. But 0-0s away in knockout football leave you extremely vulnerable and ain't very good results imo

I prefer 0-0 away to a 2-0 defeat. Just a personal preference of mine.

Well obviously  I prefer 2-0 victories. All I was saying is no away goals leaves you extremely vulnerable. Teams think they’ve got a good result, think they’re in control due to a draw away. I was confutable with just the 1 in Aberdeen. A better side than them would have caused far more trouble in the last 20 minutes.

Not even trying to score an away goal is naive really, left us vulnerable against a good side with good players returning. We should have got at them last week, it was their first competitive game of the season and they were missing key players, away goals are crucial, attack away and grind out at home.

Completely agree.

Ive seen far too many european ties over the years where teams in our position or even at 1-1 think the hard part is done.

Don’t we just love to over complicate things! We just need to win the game on the night, job done. I’m sure we’re quite capable of that.

“attack away and grind out at home”.

I’ve heard some horsesh1t on here but how in holy hell can European football be so incorrectly described .

This lot are decent but are very beatable , if they do score early you’d hope the crowd will raise the roof .weve dealt with the very best in the prem so we’ve nothing to fear in the slightest .

The biggest threat to us was the heat in Turkey, we came away unscathed as the Southampton performance proved.

We will be miles fitter and stronger than them tonight.

4-0 the Clarets

I know which team I would prefer to be not getting an home win and having to face a premiere team in their own back yard that came 7th

Perhaps had we attacked attacked attacked last week there could actually no point in tonight's game. We could have lost 3-0 and the dammed if we do, dammed if we don't posters would be revelling in it.

It is 0-0. That is it, 0-0. Hopefully Burnley Reserves can sneak a 1-0 tonight. Don't tell me, 1-0 at home is no good as they equalise and get an away goal.

A 1-1 draw would have been preferable but what we have ensured is that we now have a one-off cup tie at home. We've got 90 minutes to win the game. Our lack of an away goal may come back to haunt us but we quite easily could have gone for a goal in the away leg, lost 2-1 and been in a weaker position.

Not entirely true as we need a 1-0 win minimum tonight to go through. if we had lost 2-1 in Turkey a 1-0 win would still be sufficient.

There was no way they were beating Joe Hart last week, they still wouldn't have scored now.

They have a terrible record away in Europe but they only need a score draw so the bookies will have it as 50/50 to progress I would guess. I can’t see any odds to qualify, but I can see that in the 90 minute odds Istanbul are shortening all the time. Seems right. Even without a few reserves in we would have our work cut out. Scoring first and putting that defence under pressure is crucial.

We can go through by drawing 0-0 and winning a penalty shootout, but couldn't if we'd lost 2-1 in Turkey.

Bookies have both teams as slightly odds on to qualify so you're right, with their margin that makes it 50/50.

Ok then, let’s remember if we have a home leg to play first and it ends 0-0 deeper in the competition what a good result it is. No moans, agreed?

Yes, but we'd still have been in a weaker position had we lost the first leg.

How many times have you heard "away goals count as double" down the years ?.....no they don`t !

If we`d have lost the first leg 2-1 and tonight was 0-0 then we are out.

As it is if it ends up 0-0 tonight then we are not out.

So under no scenario whatsoever is getting beat and scoring better or as good as than the result we got.

Of course 1-1 would have been a better result....just like beating them 12-0 would have been.

Two encouraging facts from the BBC preview:

Istanbul Basaksehir have won just one of their eight away games in all European competition (D3 L4), although that victory did come in their most recent European trip, winning 2-1 in Bulgaria against Ludogorets Razgrad in the 2017-18 Europa League.

They have never kept a clean sheet away from home in European competition, conceding 17 goals in their previous eight matches.

Actually I was going to say I hope to hell we don't play our 'reserves'. Nothing less than a full strength side will suffice for me (although I would go with giving Gibson a run out if he's as good as people say he is).

But as it stands we don't actually need to score at all to go through (apart from penalties) so that logic doesn't stand up. We can play our usual patient game safe in the knowledge that we don't have to go at them. That wouldn't be the case if we were 2-1 down.

because basaksehir is a stupid club, who thinks he is real madrid and played whole europe league with his backup 11 last season....

they are too big for european league....!!!

OK I get that (especially as you are the third person to say it ;) ) I was purely talking about winning in 90 minutes as I really don't want us to have to go through ET again or potentially penalties.
