Evening all. Looking for recommendations and guidance on a bridge camera. It’s for my daughter who is taking photography as a gcse.

Wondered if anyone had any ideas on brands, models and prices and what sort of things I should look for spec wise

Want to buy 2nd hand as it’ll no doubt end up chucked in the bottom of a school bag, but also want something half decent.

You couldn’t have asked anywhere better. I posed the same question a while back and got some great advice, at the time. Late Friday not the best time to ask but by Monday you’ll be sorted.

Can’t remember the specifics, it was a while ago but I got a Sony Cybershot DSC-H400 and I love it.

Good recommendation was going to suggest similar, checked eBay some about pre-owned only a quick check though.

I have a load of gear for sale currently on behalf of a colleague who recently lost her step father.

There is a Canon Powershot G6 (needs a new battery) but the camera is mint.
Also there is an Olympus E450 which is a small DSLR with two lenses.
Nikon D300 and Nikon D200 with various lenses too.

Let me know if you are interested, I have some rough idea on prices but my colleague may well be open to offers on the equipment.

Andy will offer sound advice, known him for years and he knows his stuff

A decent second hand DSLR and a good lens will get you the most bang for your buck.

I still have a Nikon D40, that I rarely use now as I have access to some better bodies, and it still gets great results with the 18-55 kit lens. I've even used the 18-55 on a Nikon D500 recently with great results. So even if you don't fancy the D200 or D300 above then I'd recommend that lens with a Nikon body.

You can buy a secondhand film SLR camera for peanuts nowadays. I am an artist that uses photography and I didn't replace my SLR digitally, I bought a Nikon Coolpix 300 for just over £200 because it's got the best microphone in its class for video. I use a Velbon (tinypod?) (teenypod?) as a selfie stick to hold it. It's not a bridge camera, though.

Sony, brilliant sensors, Carl Zeiss lens a little over your budget, but this would be a stunner.

Excellent choice on a bridge camera, I hope you can nail the shots; don't forget to use it in manual and get more from your images. Also now look to some form of software to develop your images.
