Why would anyone get a dog and leave it locked in a room all day or night...while they F..k off to work all day? What must go through their minds! The owners could do with being locked in a lift for an hour or two....selfish sh!tty behaviour.

Agreed it could be an option..I see it hear it a lot when I'm out on jobs. What part of their brain doesn't engage? I reckon the RSPCA would be run off their feet TBH.

If this is something that happens a lot in the same household, then it's an option that you should be acting on today.
Give them a call today and then you've done what you can. When they check on the dogs, they may think they're in good health, but you'll have done your bit.

All dogs should be comfortable with being left alone for a few hours, and if the dog is trained properly there should be no effect, positive or negative, to doing this. As long as there is access to food, water and toys I don't see a problem with it personally.

Im not sure there’s a dog owner on earth that doesn’t leve their dog for a few ours at a time.

The RSPCA will not give 2 hoots....I have reported my neighbour 3 times and also the girl the other side has done the same....nothing....they are only interested in the big cases that can highlight them!

Not sure how we've gone from Tim saying, "all day or night" (while they go to work all day), to some people replying with "a few hours". I'm pretty sure 8-9am to 5pm is more than a few hours.

We have two dogs and the max. we will leave them home alone is 5 hours and that after a long walk. We do not do this often for obvious reasons.

Some breeds are quite happy left on their own, whilst some quickly suffer from separation anxiety. My dog, a cocker spaniel, doesn't like being left on her own in the house, but if I'm out for any length of time I put her in the car in the garage and she's perfectly content, curling up and going to sleep. She loves the car because she associates it with going somewhere for a long walk.

I don’t, million’s of working people do it I reckon, providing as above with the water, food ect & no separation issues it’s no problem, put it this way if it became law that dogs couldn’t be left alone for a few hrs & that resulted in some form of neglect they’d be scores of dogs that would have rehomed. Mine get fed, watered, & walked 3 times a day & left alone for a few hours, if the RSPCA ever darkened my doorstep they’d get both barrels verbally.

Had dogs all my life, they are fine with being left alone all day.

Two dogs possibly better than being "home alone" tbh I should have posted dog owners. Good uns and bad uns like anything else I suppose .

The sheer joy on our two dogs faces and the way they jump all over us after we have been our for a few hours proves to me they shouldn't be left alone for long period's,plus it's a lovely welcome home for us,better than returning to an empty house,we love Dogs,But irresponsible owners get my goat,the simple answer is if you can't give them your time don't have one.

Genuine question

Me and my partner both work full time hours but employ a dog walker who visits each day at lunch time to take her for a walk etc.

I do feel guilty about it sometimes truth be told but when we got her we specifically sought opinion I whether leaving a dog alone is okay and all said it’s fine. As I said above we always make sure she has access to everything she needs before we leave.

Dogs aren't stupid. If they know you're in the house, they're fine.

You will never square this circle.

I once got reported by a neighbour for leaving my dogs out all day in the snow (my wife was in as she would never dream of leaving them out if she was down town). When the RSPCA woman was recording details of the incident, she asked if the complainant knew what type of doge they were. When she replied “Huskies” she said thanks and hung up! Every time we went out to bring them in they just wouldn’t come. That evening we had to go out and drag them in!

Just because you can’t hear them don’t think that they don’t bark all day. I work from home, believe me, they do. Irresponsible dog owners drive me bonkers, guy opposite leaves the windows open goes out and the dog barks at anything moving.

Twice in my life I've lived alongside neighbors (separate houses) who had dogs which simply barked incessantly and very loudly all day when the owners were out, but were absolutely fine when someone was in. The owners were, I think, completely unaware of it as after the initial barking in greeting the dogs were quiet as.

Agree to a certain degree, but sometimes life isn't that simple I really wish it was, example you've got a dog devoting time towards the dog but your circumstances change thru no fault of your own & now you've got less time with the dog than before, but enough to give the dog a reasonable life ensuring the necessities are covered, you struggle to rehome the dog & even if you could you're not guaranteed that the dog will have a better life than the 1 he currently enjoys, life isn't so black & white. What gives?
