Well this should be interesting. Mine is from a very good stream. Not a nay sayer or a boo boy and I thought Olympiakos looked very good, but that said I thought we were pretty bad. According to BBC Stats 18 fouls and 1 shot on target (though surely it was two.) There was a lot of poor decision making, rash tackling and 5 yellow cards. The good news is we could still go through.

Heaton . 5 . Not happy with the wall for the first goal but isn't it up to him to get it right. Didn't command his box.
Bardsley. 5. Rash challenge led to free kick for first goal.
Gibson. 4. Directly implicated in two goals and got two yellow cards.
Long. 6. Some useful interventions. Silly booking.
Ward. 5. Just hasn't looked himself this season
JBG. 5. No real edge, average set pieces.
Hendrick. 5. Been good so far this season but poor tonight.
Cork. 6. One terrible pass but otherwise okay.
Barnes. 7. Mom. Really looked like he wanted it.
Wood. 5. Well taken penalty but nothing else.

Subs. 5.

Early days but after 7 games no wins inside 90 minutes and only 4 goals.....

A night when we shot ourselves in the foot, but by showing more discipline in the last 30 minutes, we've given ourselves half a chance.

Heaton - 6 - Something not quite right about the first goal, but otherwise he handled well.

Bardsley - 6 - Needless, stupid free kick to give away for their opener, but otherwise fine.

Ward - 7 - Solid enough until understandably replaced.

Long - 6 - Looked a little shaky all night, but got through OK.

Gibson - 5 - Two reckless moments cost us dear on the night, and the risk of going with such a novice pairing on such a tricky night came home to roost unfortunately. He might have been a fraction unlucky with the second booking, but the defending for his first booking was none too clever.

Cork - 7 - Kept our shape well and generally solid, although one ludicrous blind cross field pass in the first half almost led to a recreation of Watford's third goal last Sunday.

Hendrick - 6 - Generally fine. Got sucked into needless challenges a few times though, most notably immediately before the first goal.

JBG - 6 - Generally tidy enough, but his dead ball delivery was absolutely, and uncharacteristically, awful.

Taylor - 6 - Steady enough and produced a couple of nice balls, but also a couple of moments of silly challenges.

Barnes - 8 - For 45 minutes he absolutely dominated their back 4, but it was just a shame we weren't able to give him a chance to do the same after the break.

Wood - 7 - Won a stonewall penalty, and otherwise pretty decent in a first half we controlled well.

Tarks - 7 - Added a bit of composure to the back line, although he too was guilty of giving the ball away too easily more than once.

Lennon - 6 - Helped keep us solid down the sides with a decent shift.

Vokes - 6 - Did fine in the time available.

A disappointing and frustrating night, which actually followed a remarkably familiar pattern to Sunday's game against Watford. Olympiakos had a bit of pace and fizz, particularly amongst the 3 behind the striker, but other than that I thought we looked to be a better team than them. Certainly, for the most part I thought we controlled the first half apart from 5 minutes either side of their goal and with a tiny bit more composure on a couple of occasions might scored a second to go in ahead. An awful ten minutes to start the second half killed the game, but fortunately a solid enough last half hour means the tie is not over - particularly given Olympiakos' record in England - even if it is now a bit of a long shot.

Giving away daft free kicks, defending them badly, square balls across the back four and sloppy starts to halves are not the traits of a Sean Dyche Burnley team though, and we need to cut it out quickly. Losing 3-1 once when you probably ought to have got something from the game is careless, doing it twice in a week is rather more reckless.

Heaton 6 Thought he might have better for the freekick but ok otherwise.
Bardsley 4 Daft fouls especially the one for the first goal
Gibson 4 Turned too easily for the foul leading to their second leaving no option but to foul. Unlucky with the sending off though
Long 6 Ok
Ward 5 Poor start to the season continued
Taylor 5 Not a left midfielder
Cork 6 Average
Hendrick 5 Good lately but can't remember him touching the ball in the 2nd half
JBG 6 Average
Barnes 5 Daft fouls all night
Wood 6 plus 1 for pen

Lennon 6
Tarks 6
Vokes 5

An absolutely incredible atmosphere and a brilliant experience. Weirdly kind of felt let down by the performance, although I thought half time came at a really bad time for us as we were having our best spell at the time. However, we did exactly what we did on Sunday and started the half terribly. 3-1 was probably a fair score overall. Wouldn’t have missed that for the world though.

JGB - 6 looked decent firat half
Cork 7 - looked classy again
Hendrick 6 - did well first half - tpok several huts that went unpunished
Taylor 6 - couple of flashes and generally steady but nit a winger
Wood 6 - caused them problems until he had to be sacrificed
Barnes 6 - a real handful first half and won a lot but second half ref seened to have decided not to give hom anything

Lennon 6 - didnt really bring much but by then the game was over
Tarks 7 - one bad pass aside looked solid. Needs to be playing every game

Heaton 4 looked poor on the first, shouldn't bounce on the line from 20+ yards out
Bardsley - 5 same old, same old, very average
Long - ran ragged, dont want to list his weaknesses as we all know them
Gibson - poor
Ward 5 us that 3 games he's looked "Not his usual self" can't keep being that
JBG- 4 wasteful and poor... again
Cork - 5 looked tired
Hendrick- 4 gave away the ball a lot, was that his error for goal? Doesn't matter he was garbage anyway..
Taylor- 5 offered ziltch
Barnes 6 - put his self about which is bare m8nimum, but so many didn't manage it
Wood 5 - offered ziltch

Let's get out of this sh1t hole, we can't keep seeking up this cross week after week.
Their keeper made no saves, and we even got given a goal.
3 weeks on the spin where our final 3rd players look lost of ideas

From elevensports app on my phone

Heaton 6 - he was still trying to sort out the wall when the ref blew, and I thought he was too far across
Bardsley 6 - at 1-1, he squares it with a decent pass and its a tap in for Wood. Solid
Long 6 - solid
Gibson 5 - unlucky to be sent off, but what was he doing for the pen?
Ward 6 - steady away, but looks a yard short this year unfortunately
JBG 5 - worked hard, but boy oh boy, those set pieces were shocking
Hendrick 6 - fine
Cork 6 - apart from a ludicrously bad crossfield ball, fine
Taylor 6 - he's a left back, probably should be starting there as well
Barnes 8* - they won't forget meeting Mr A Barnes in a hurry. Nailed on to start in the 2nd leg
Wood 6 - ok

Subs
Tarks 7
Lennon 6
Vokes 6

Thought we were more than good in the first and well in control. Just like Sunday thought started the 2nd half asleep and paid for it. But a very controlled last thirty have given us a chance.

We can still do this.

Heaton 4 - gifted them an opening goal
Bardsley 3 - again, gifted them an opening goal, didn't win a 50/50 tackle all night, awful delivery.
Long 6 - did ok despite looking nervy and all over the place.
Gibson 6 - not helped by the awful defence around him.
Ward 3 - awful again
JBG 3 - another toothless display, 1 decent cross in 90 minutes.
Cork 6 - on his own in midfield
Hendrick 4 - did that bump to the head affect him?
Taylor 3 - did he touch the ball?
Barnes 7 MOM - our best player, received no service again.
Wood 6 - did well first half on scraps, his goal celebration and attitude seems to suggest he isn't enjoying his time with us.

All over the place at the back, negative, hoofing at every opportunity, a team full of experience played like a bunch of kids. Never looked like testing the keeper from open play again. Amateur football really, I've seen better ball retention and quality in League Two. Our wide players are awful, no quality delivery into the forwards either.

I'd reccomend going for a long walk and trying to get a sense of perspective. You seem to derive nothing but unhappiness from following Burnley despite the fact this is a golden period for us

Cheers.

Course when you see the ratings, you'll see that sensible, thoughtful Burnley fans not in the market for easy likes will mark it similar to me.

Do me a favour, and check out what a rating is supposed to represent, and then check out if you think all eleven players deserved a "4"

Then have a lie down yourself.

Heaton - 5 Did well in the main and unlucky to be beaten by three set pieces. But should have bossed his wall for the free kick.
Bardsley - 6 sort of player we need in these games. Won us a few free kicks. Delivery was poor.
Ward - 4 Has been abysmal this season thus far. Rightly hooked. Looks like his legs are going.
Gibson - 4 Very poor free kick to give away for their goal. Looked nervy throughout. Harshly sent off. But overall poor. Sure he will come back better.
Long - 5 Distribution not great. Generally was OK defensively though. But looked surprisingly very slow.
JBG 4 - Anonymous. Offered nothing.
Cork 6 - Did reasonably well. Chased and covered ground well. Kept ball OK. Just didnt see enough of it.
Hendrick 4 - Really poor. Every time he had the ball he wasted it. Either by hoofing it in the air, heading it to them or giving it away.
Ward 7 - Thought he was much better than last week and looked a threat. Excellent balls in at times. Good touch. And played well at left back when dropped in.
Barnes 8 - Excellent. They couldnt deal with him first half. Tired when he was up top alone. But the improvement he has shown season on season is fantastic. Deserved a goal.
Wood 8 - Thought he held it well first half. Won a penalty very cleverly and took it very cooly. Unlucky to be subbed because of the red.

Worked in football from non league up to Premier League level, played at a semi professional level. I’d probably say I know at least an equal amount about football as you do.

Again, YOU GAVE EVERY BURNLEY PLAYER A "4"

You can go "fair enough LC, I got a bit carried away and it wasn't that bad" and that actually isn't anything to worry about.

Why are you defending the indefensible?

One dimensional again. No pace, no flair. Not sure why in a game where we play a lot of our 2nd string we can't find time to give game time to our unfit number 10. I really hope we give this a proper go next week instead of this half-hearted shite.

Heaton 5 (looked rusty with his positioning and command of his area)
Bardsley 6 (steady defensively and yes he gave the foul away for the first but it was a good distance from the goal)
Ward 5 (finished last season poorly and looking off it in my opinion so far)
Gibson 5 (disappointing as involved in both second half goals)
Long 5 (some good covering but often all over the shop)
JBG 5 (expecting more of him)
Taylor 6 (out of position for most of the game, but did a job)
Cork 5 (up against a 3 again on a poor pitch but at times both him and Jeff made it hard for themselves, each other and the team by poor possession and emptying the middle of the park)
Hendrick 5 (see cork)
Wood 6 (good penalty and a handful)
Barnes 6 (not doubting his effort and putting himself about, winning free kicks, but didn’t threaten the goal enough with the quality of his play on the ball or his movement - to warrant a higher mark imo)

Subs: 6 for playing a part in a solid defensive unit

A frustrating night in many ways. We need to start and play the second half better for starters as this is the 4th or 5th game running where we have played reasonably well first half ,only then to have any momentum halted by really poor second half re-starts. I do however feel the away goal gained tonight could have a substantial implication on the outcome of the tie

Heaton 5 At fault for the 1st
Bardsley 6 regardless of what a couple of posters have put he did ok and won on crucial tackle late on when Olympiakos had a dangerous attack on the break, which Bardsley actually managed to win a goal kick from. His distribution could have been better though.
Long 6 A couple of decent blocks/tackles
Gibson 5 Poor for the free kick that lead to the goal but really harshly sent off imo
Ward 4 Poor and part of the reason that Gibson appeared to have a shakey game
JBG 4 Poor as well. He seems to have lost the fizz in his play that we have become accustomed to. His deadball delivery was atrocious too
Hendrick 7 I actually thought he did ok. He is far more suited to the position he played tonight and if anything adds a bit of height and physicalityto midfield
Cork 5 A steady game although he was at fault for their 2nd goal
Taylor 6
Lennon 6 ok
Barnes 7 A menace up to the sending off
Wood 5 He's out of sorts at the moment and his movement imo doesn't help him atm either. 1st half especially he seemed incapable of bending his runs beyond the defence which meant on several occasions when we looked to play the ball forward to him he would have been woefully offside if we'd have tried to use him.

Bardsley 5 - So limited going forward.
Long 6 - OK.
Gibson 6 - NEVER a sending off. Pathetic decision.
Ward 5- Time for CT to have a run.
JBG 6 - Only creative source.
Hendrick 6- Prefer him in the middle.
Cork 6 - Solid first half, struggle to contain them early second.
Taylor 5 - Needs to be at left back.
Barnes 7 - They really struggled against him first half. Starts again next week.
Wood 6 - Good penno and was a threat in the box.

It was very annoying but predictable. The way their bench went up right in front of us for a penalty claim at the end of the first half was a disgrace. At that point the Ref decided to cash in his chips and become a fully fledged Olympiacos fan. There were guys twenty yards outside their technical area, it was 100 times anything we have seen in the Premier League. From what Dyche said they were at it in the tunnel too, even office staff. Naively, it seems we went into our dressing room and shut the door. You live and learn said Dyche, well, you do, but this is our one shot at it.

So it is hard to be too critical but Taylor at left wing was anonymous apart from doing a bit to help out Ward. Bardsley was error prone (goal one). Long was stretched. Gibson was, unfortunately, the key player in the game. Tarky coming on gave us solidity, as you would expect.

I feel for Gibson. He has come in, the fans don’t yet know him, he thinks we all love Ben Mee. The team don’t know him (e.g. he has never played in front of Tom before). He has had one season in the Premier League and a bit in the Championship. Now he is parachuted in after a couple of Istanbul games into this, well, maelstrom. You wouldn’t do that to your worst enemy. I sincerely hope this doesn’t finish him off as a Burnley player (“the new signing whose errors cost us our European dream”). He doesn’t deserve that.

I’ve said it before but this atmosphere and quality of side needed our first choice defence, not 4 changes out of 5. It wasn’t just unfair on the fans who couldn’t yet afford to go to Europe. It was unfair on the players too. I sense Dyche is going to get this thrown back at him if we have a bad season, rightly probably, you can’t dine out on past success at this level. It’s brave in a sense, if he had played the full team any defeat would have just been a defeat, not an incompetent team selection (assuming he doesn’t want to be Allardyce, otherwise it is crafty, I’m undecided on that matter, sorry).

Saying that though, we still have a chance. But it HAS to be first choice eleven next Thursday when 2 goals down. If it isn’t, for me, he is Alledyce Mark 2 and can pack his bags. Don’t disappoint me Sean.

Utter utter drivel.

Tricky because the 10 worked very hard at the end and that deserves some praise, even if it was poor play that ultimately got us into that position. Midfield needs to do better in games like this surely: we need to hold be able to hold onto the ball far better.
