I cannot be outside the Turf, but am listening on Radio Lancashire.
I never saw him play, but heard so muh about him from my Dad.
RIP Jimmy, a real Legend, not like the ones portrayed these days.

A very moving service on Radio Lancashire.Must admit I had tears rolling down my face Drove up to the layby at top of Rossendale Road to listen on the car radio and then pay my respects as the cortage passed by on its way to the cemetery.A very sad day in the clubs history but Jimmy got the send off he richly deserved.

I went down to the Turf earlier to see him arrive for the funeral. Huge turnout and just so emotional.
Came home afterwards and listened to the funeral before going onto Rossendale Road to watch Jimmy go past on his final journey.
So hard to believe we were saying goodbye to him.

I was at the service in the James Hargreaves Stand. Very moving with some excellent contributions and suitable music. RIP (Sir) Jimmy McIlroy.

Cracking turnout and pleased to see it was equally cracking weather.
Faces who will have seen him play regular. And some too young to even know who he was. Great to see.

Didn't see any of the current squad at the Service in the JH Stand. Saw Dobson, Flynn, Ternent, Latcham, Irvine, Robson. Appparently Tommy Docherty was also there ?

You can add three more former Clarets to that list - there were two Ternents, Colin Waldron and Mike Summerbee.

I hope someone made sure that elderly chap dressed in grey stood in the middle of the road ( middle photo ) got home safely, he looks a trifle confused & I'm a bit worried about him !

Yes, heard that. Dozy bint.
Although, to be fair, she was probably just reading from the autocue.

Maybe the same place, down the pits got to, which promptly got deleted for whatever reasons right or wrong, no place for any sort of arguments glad he got a good send off & rightfully respected.

I also heard the gaff re Mc playing down the road. Probable auto cue written by a B td fan.
I would be surprised if Bobby Charlton was not among the guest/attendees today. He went to the funerals of Brian Miller and Jimmy Adamson. He has my respect for that and I'm sure he would have tried his best to pay tribute, to someone so special as Jimmy Mc, if he could have been there.

I was also on hpw before and went home to listen to the service on radio lancs. Also saw the hearse at the summit.
It's been a very emotional day. I was thinking of Jimmy's family obviously and the memories as a young boy of seeing Jimmy mesmorise teams with his dribbling and passing on those mud heaps.
However, and I bet this was the same for many today, it was the the thought of parent's and family long gone that first got the clarets in the blood that came to mind.
RIP Jimmy you will never be forgotton.

Nice video from BBC. Funny how they need subtitles for our exceedingly rare accent!!!

I was at the service in the James Hargreaves stand. It was excellent in every respect and very well attended. Stories about Jimmy’s home and family life in Burnley over several decades.. plenty of stuff about his football career....some poetry.. some live music, some recorded music..
- a lovely warm feel to the hour long service, and a proper send off I felt. Many ex-footballers there, other sports people and media people.
It was all very well done.
RIP Jimmy.

I have the utmost respect for those fans who travel long distances to support the Clarets every week ,home and away, in all weathers and spending their hard earned cash..
Puts into perspective the ones who live locally that can't be bothered cos the price of the Twix has increased or the pies ran out before half time or they think a tenner or fifteen quid is too much for a ticket.
Ps I do realise that not all people can afford to go on every match in the present climate.

Say's a lot about this forum really.
We have massive threads on boring political differences, but a true club legend passes away and not a lot said.

There have been previous lengthy threads following his passing and there is also an online book of condolence which we set up prior to one being set up by the club.

Excellent obituary on Jimmy McIlroy in yesterday's Daily Telegraph.

But, link is behind paywall - though there is free 30 days subscription (I'm not a subscriber).
"What would we want to leave Burnley for?" - Jimmy's wife's response when Jimmy was "promised all sorts...." by Sampdoria before the '62 FA Cup Final.
RIP, Jimmy.
