Why is Taylor scared of going forwards?

When we first signed him, he was running at defences, getting to the byeline then putting in great crosses.

Now, he almost always refuses to get forwards and never wants to cross the ball unless he has no other choice.

So frustrating to watch. Has Sean taken the attack out of him?

More than likely. Just like he's obviously told Lennon to tuck in and not stick to the byline.

Thought he got forward quite a lot relative to the team's performance, especially second half.

He came up in support of Mcneil quite a few times second half, but that left foot of Mcneil's is very very good and I think Taylor preferred laying it off.

Had a good game and put in more crosses than any other player?

I must have been at a different game. I personally thought Taylor was one of the few players to come out of this hammering with any credit.

I don't think it's fear of going forwards, it's just that he's been told not too. You know, cos #keeptheshape

An extremely frustrating one given Lennon, who is a winger, had one noticeably good play today... which came from acting as a winger.

I think this is it exactly but it is frustrating when we cripple a players natural instincts.

He got forwards but seemed to stop when on line with the outer edge of the goalies area. I was screaming at him to keep going. Only did a couple of times.

Surely Dyche must remember that Kieran Trippier didn't pick up 14 assists from fullback by being nullified in the attacking sense. Counter-productive, especially when we're 1-0 down.

What's the point in Taylor going forward when he has nobody to cross too...........notice how many times he got forward and put crosses in when we played two up front from 60 mins onwards. I keep saying it, Dyche doesn't set us up to win games

I don’t think he put one decent cross in today personally. They were either blocked as he went down blind alleys or floated comfortably into the keeper to catch.
The jury is also out for me on his first touch - nowhere near as assured as Ward and he seems to be often on the stretch after his first touch.

He never gave up trying today though and he’s only young and inexperienced at this level....plus part of our crosses looking poor could be down to a lack of players in the box

How many times did Dyche say small margins last season ?

How long are you planning on living in the past for ?

Really? This thread is far from true. Of all the players you could of accused, Taylor seems to consistently move the ball to the front.

Also didn't do terribly in defence either. Threw himself in front of a few shots, including just before the 2nd goal.

Thought he did okay all round, nothing special, but not terrible either.

The whole finishing 7th was a tad misleading from the truth last season if were honest, sick of hearing it as an excuse for this seasons poor start now

Ward is part of our best defence which has been proven over 3 seasons

Wards legs started going towards the back end of last season and they haven't recovered.

Even Beckham with his pin point precision would struggle to pick one Burnley player out with 3 defenders marking him and a world class goalie who is happy to come and catch anywhere.
We need to spend the next two weeks getting people confident in attacking areas, so they want the ball and know they will have options when they get to the box.

Taylors doing just fine.

Let's keep playing him until he's 40 then because of what he did over those three seasons.

Footballers get older, slower and there legs start to go so need replacing.

Unsure why you brought that up withme though when i was making a point about finishing 7th

Not sure where people get the idea that Ward’s ‘legs have gone’, whatever that actually means. It’s just another lazy phrase without much substance, like ‘panic buy’. Ward’s had a couple of poor games, like most of the squad, but he still remains one of our most important players in both attack and defence. Taylor is still a little way behind in my opinion but he’s shown some positive signs.

Taylor and McNeil seemed to get into space to cross a number of times but with Wood stood with 3/4 United players, decided against crossing - is that Taylor’s fault

He hasn't just had a couple of bad games though. He was fading towards the back end of last season and started this season the same.

So you have no problem with the attack (although you did on another thread) or the defence. You have a problem with the tactics of our best manager arguably since Harry Potts.

You do understand he took us into Europe for the first time in 50 years with his tactics?
You understand that he has had to switch his team more regularly than ever before as all teams in Europe do?
You understand he may be learning at a new level himself?

Yet you question his tactics after 4 league games when we nearly knocked Olympiacos out of Europe last week.

No mate, I along with others have been questioning his tactics for a long time. 5 wins in 32. How did we nearly knock out Olympiacos in midweek with what was probably our best performance since April (Leicester at home)...........we played 4-4-2. Yet he reverts back to the 4-5-1 rubbish against Man Utd who always play Smalling, Matic and Felliani against us. I understand we have longterm injuries which makes the transfer window even more ridiculous. If he was learning he wouldn't have played 4-5-1 for the last 30+ games.

Why is it you think I or others don't have a right to question the tactics ? I have no problem with you backing his tactics at all but I'd like you to explain why you think they are working when the numbers prove they aren't and haven't been since April. (use the quote function so I know you've replied)

If he gets his 50th cap this week it suggests he is the best Irish left back and has been for some years.

He is also Burnley’s best left back.

Dyche knows this too given the number of games he has played whilst other options are available. I understand why he has played Taylor recently and he was perfect for a game against Olympiacos, for example, where we needed a few goals.

Man U is a different challenge and now we are out of Europe the sooner we get back to a settled back 4 namely Lowton, Tarky, Mee and Ward the better

How is not knowing what has gone on since Fulham clutching at straws?

I have an opinion on what our best back 4 is. The opinion is shared by many posters on here but none of us knows what goes on in the dressing room.

So let's say you have a favourite restaurant, it has the best chef they've ever had and in the last few years has served up some brilliant food and rightly received critical acclaim. However, ever since his moment of success he's been putting out substandard food despite the fact you and others know what he is capable of - you wouldn't question it ?

Good analogy. That’s not what’s happened though.

The food at Southampton was great (after an hour we felt full and couldn’t eat any more)
The first half food against Watford was even better (we accidentally added too much salt at halftime and had to leave the meal)
The first half food away at Olympiacos was great (the waiter removed the plate at half time)
The food at home to Olympiacos was great.
The food at Fulham was poor (it was over cooked and inedible)
The food yesterday had the wrong ingredients (someone added chilli powder instead of Paprika by mistake and we couldn’t eat it)
