Wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference today. Taylor was fine.

An area I think we will probably need to strengthen.
He’s been fantastic, but I think Ward’s age is starting to catch up with him. It’s fine margins but I feel like he has been slightly off the pace since returning from
Injury last year.

Think this level may also be a step too far for Taylor...although hopefully I’m wrong.

Not convinced this is a step too far for Taylor. Seen a lot of criticism about him not pushing higher up the field but I have to put it down to Dyche's instructions rather than him. Nothing really off with his crossing either today - put the ball into good areas but ultimately Wood has no chance when it's him vs about 4 players with nobody else attacking them.

Taylor really isn't the issue. Anyone who thinks he is after watching today is very misguided!

Taylor is still young. He is our long term replacement for Ward. He just needs a run of games playing in his natural position. Didn't really put a foot wrong today. Doesn't help that at the moment he has McNeil playing ahead of him who I feel has done tremendously well but maybe is more naive defensively. This might mean Taylor is a bit more reserved offensively.

Why don’t you start a good thread then we can all agree with you.

Wardy is the best left back at the club and has been the best left back at the club this season and last season and the season before..

Taylor is not good enough defensively and United could have had 7 today.

We need a settled back 5 and it needs to be the best 5 players including Ward and Lowton

I’ve been hard on Taylor recently but no issues at all today. Not involved in either of the goals we conceded and was much better in the top third.

Hard to say he wasn’t involved in the second one. The ball hit him when his body shape was all wrong. A bit cowardly and not something you’d expect from our defence.

Maybe he should take up athletics.

Pathetic. We lost today because we had the likes of Jesse Lingard against us. NOT because of our feckin left back.

You are showing yourself up here!! Ward would of offered nothing more that what Taylor did today. Missing award was the least of our problems.

Get yourself off to bed, drink a pint of water before you do, it will help with the hangover in the morning

The problem with all these comparisons is no one takes into account the quality of the opposition.
Ben Mee for example, played just as well today as he did last season. The difference was Lukaku was on fire, more like the player of the world cup. Does that make Mee bad, or just Lukaku good.
Taylor played fine today, against a Utd side that was far better than the one that never turned up at the Amex. Ward is a great player, but we need to persist with Taylor. His link up play down the left is getting better, and will only improve the more he and McNeil play together.

Which he was, including covering for Ben Mee several times in the second half. Our left side wasn’t an issue at all today with Taylor and McNeil - both played very well.

The whole defence was all over the place which is why we needed the stability of our best defenders on the pitch. Unfortunately, only 2 were.

Do you seriously think Mee played as well today as he did last season?

Yeah I do.
If Lukaku had played like that against him last season, he would have looked just as bad, or are you saying Lukaku only looked good because Mee was ****. Ben was slow last season, he was slow today. So what's the difference.

A shadow of last season today.. But that Lukaku is a bit of a handful especially today...and to the thread title wards not as sharp as last season but it's early doors yet.

Taylor did okay yesterday, but I do wish he’d whip a ball into the box a bit earlier. Always needs a couple of touches to steady himself, which then gives the opposition time to set themselves.

Ward has been off the pace this season so far. A few of our players have.

Lawton might be better at attacking than Bardsley but that isn’t the only consideration.

The weakness today was our lack of pace but we aren't the first side in history that has been bullied by Lakaku. Luke Shaw is probably as quick as any player in our side., Lennon apart.

Our biggest weakness today was the lack of any physical presence in our midfield. We were completely bossed and Bullied.

All true.
Fellaini, Matic and Pogba. All massive, all fast, all long legged, and Lukaku playing as he did for Belgium in the world cup, rather than the lazy bugger who played at OT last season.
Plus after all the criticism from last week they came out like s dog that had been poked with a stick.

I never thought we'd get a result, I just wanted a good performance. There was lots to be happy with on Sunday despite the defeat.
