D*g **** today. Should lose his shirt until work rate significantly improves.

He either tries to go past his man, or don't play him.

Completely woeful. But not on his own. Lennon and Bardsley should not be starting.

Its the system. Previously attacking players like lennon, boyd, kightly et all told to play as a wide centre midfielder and defend first.

Can't actually believe he dropped McNeil for this waste of space.

I heard that McNeil suffered a knock and so wasn't risked, so it would have to be McNeil left, JBG right.

it's an awful lot and very unfair to ask an 18 year old to help save your team from relegation imho

Still confused as to why he gets told to move inside. It doesn’t work - the only times he’s ever looked threatening is from the touchline

Just doesn't look interested in the game @ the moment & he needs dropping asap if he is not prepared to put a shift in, as with our form we need all 11 fighting for the team..

what's the date got to do with it ? Have you seen anything from us so far this season that suggest we will get more than 10 points this season ?? Or are you putting your blind faith in Brady and Defour coming back, not picking up another injury, and playing at the top of their form ? Like Dyche always says, we work in the here and now and in the here and now we are awful.

It's got a lot to do with it. And I'll wager you now we get more than 10 points.

A poor do when he's basically our only player with pace. Time and again he cuts back inside instead of taking his man on. Annoying as ****.

The fact that there's plenty of time to improve. Simple as that really. Are you saying we won't get 10 points?

Lennon was good for three games when we signed him, particularly so against Man City at home.

He has been solidly gash since and looks frankly absolutely useless.

I genuinely don't think it's the system. It really is the man! And Everton let him go, (to a direct rival at the time), for a good reason!!

not if we play like we have been doing. I fully understand the "plenty of time to improve" theory - Palace proved it last season..........but they have Zaha and we have Lennon.

What date are we allowed to say "it's too late to improve" ?

Poor signing. Said it at the time, he’s another yesterday’s man - same with Walters, etc.

You've gone completely off track. You said it was unfair to play McNeil because of his age due to being in a relegation battle. I'm suggesting the current timing is no issue if he's good enough - I haven't seen enough of him to know if he is but that wasn't your point.

He can't be arsed taking on a man. easy option of passing sideways or back every time .

how have I gone off track ? Given how crap we are and with no sign of any improvement we are in a relegation battle. I don't think it's fair to ask an 18 year old who has played a game and a half to shoulder the responsibility. If you do then fair enough, I guess the other way I could look at it is it gives him plenty of games in preparation for the Championship

You're basing it totally off his age. I'm suggesting that's nonsense if he's good enough. Few people know if he is.

At least McNeil is enthusiastic, looks exciting and will probably make the club money the more appearances he makes.i can live with the odd mistake whilst he is getting experience. Lennon costs a lot and currently offers nothing.

This discussion should have been taken out of the equation in the summer with a replacement left winger being signed to put JBG back on the right wing where he plays best and putting Lennon on the bench as an impact player.

I'm basing it off watching footy for 40 years where hardly any 18 year old is thrown into any team and plays every game. If you look back on what I posted about McNeil elsewhere you'll see I was very vociferous in him starting against Man Utd after the Olympiakos game. I would have liked him to start today (unfortunate with the injury) but I'm also aware we (the fans) shouldn't be putting pressure on him at his age. If you think different then fair enough no biggy

Picking him to play isn't asking him to save the season. It's rewarding him for all the hard work he's done and showing faith in his ability and promise.

Re: Lennon

So the question is: Why doesn't he try to take on his man?

Too old? Not good enough? Been ordered not to? Can't be arsed?

I wouldn't have ever signed Lennon unless I expected him to take on the full back and cross. Lennon has always only ever been able to do that, so it would be strange to sign him for anything else.

McNeil offers something different, another option, hunger and desire from a young lad. Also how can he be worse than Lennon was today? Offered nothing

Yes, Lennon was very poor today (again) and his tracking back was all over the place. But he wasn't alone.

I just don't get why SD has Lennon on the left (when he only has a right foot) and JBG on the right (when his greatest strength is his left foot). This just brings negative results. And reduces dramatically the number of chances of getting the ball into the box.

JBG is far more effective on the right wing cutting in, Robbie Brady struck up a very good relationship with Ward on the opposite flank during the early part of last season and we looked very balanced as a side.

Does the left wing suit Lennon? Absolutely not but it seems neither does the right wing at present.

maybe you aren't understanding the whole picture Taio (or i'm not explaining things right!) - if we aren't playing him every game then we are relying on Lennon who clearly on current form (other than his first few games) isn't good enough - the board should have given Dyche the funds to replace Lennon (or better still not buy Lennon in the first place but someone far better) and then we could have McNeil coming on off the bench and playing cup games etc which imho would be the best way for his development.

Lennon's contract has a clause that says we either play him or pay him double.
I heard it from a bloke down the pub who knows Julian.

Yes, sure I would play JBG on the left. He has better chances of getting the ball across from the wing rather that having to cut back to cross from the right wing with his left foot, which defenders predictably know is the only way he goes.
