Thought this lad was great against olympiacos and man u showed good technique and determination,very surprised he was dropped for wolves ,hope he has staked his claim for a recall against the cherries, with his game against Bolton,very exciting prospect .

I think everyone was shocked he wasn't on the bench, but under pressure Dyche is more likely to go to his defensive nature and try and grind results out.

Best prospect since Jay Rod he has it all two footed, tackles well, can pick a pass and has an eye for goal.He needs to be starting in first team games

For me shows more than Aaron Lennon does and at the moment more likely to score too

Dyche picks the bench on seniority, if there are 7 fit senior players then McNeil misses out, it's a shame.

Should be on the pitch. When you’re struggling for results you should always pick the best team - and for me he offers a lot more than Lennon. And would allow Gudmundsson to return to his preferred right side.

Lot of pressure on his shoulders, think a slow introduction is the right way to go.

Agree with those who say he should be starting. Offers a lot more than Lennon, who's done sweet FA for far too long now.

To throw him in when we are struggling and fans questioning things could be foolish or could be a master stroke.

Personally think Dyche has this right. The last thing he needs in his development is to be thrown into negative, losing environment. Expect to see him back in for Cardiff and Hudersfield if not Bournemouth.

The only way a youngster will get a chance at Burnley or any other premier league club is through lack of senior players being available or it going tits up
Chaplow was the last youngster.to get a sustained run at Burnley wasn't he?

I don’t think Jay Rod did. Not 100% sure but I think he had a brief appearance in the first team them went on a few loans and got injured before establishing himself in the championship around 21/22 years old.

Initially read that as "two footed tackles" and thought you were listing that as a good thing!

Starting to get a bit frustrated with what is a clear desire to use defensive options over attacking options, despite the great promise McNeil showed.

When he was put in charge of all free kicks in the opposition half it became very clear how much faith SD has in him.
It’s going to be a great year for him and inspiration to everyone in the youths squads.

Sensible to be cautious with his development under the circumstances - would hate us to reflect on this season in comparison to 1975/76 - our third and final back in the top flight in that spell - careful nurturing of emerging talent in a challenging situation would set us apart from that era and is hopefully a sign of a different mindset/mentality to previous occasions in our history when the odds have been stacked against us.

Two-footed ? He is virtually completely left-footed isn't he ? This seems to be his main weakness ..just as it is Steven Ward and Charlie Taylor's for that matter.

Bordeaux captures exactly what I was trying to say - but for more succinctly.

I'm thinking along the lines of Bradshaw, Kennerley, O'Rourke Parker etc. from that era - I'm sure there are numerous examples from the many years of struggle (although not in the top flight) between then and the change of fortune in the 21st century.

Isn't this a tad over the top?

SD knows what he's doing, unbelievable though that may sound to some.

He shows immense promise but he needs to be dipped in and out to build up his mentality if nothing else.

The last thing he needs is for him to be placed on a pedestal by the fanbase at this stage.

If a couple of months down the line, he's shown his ability on a few occasions, he'll get a regular gig.

Our history of bringing young players through in the distant past, whilst laudable, needs to be tempered by the difficulty of doing it at Premier League level given the standard of the league we're in.

Patience is a virtue in this instance.

I thought his absence on Sunday was purely tactical.
First half, JBG was obviously given a task of keeping them quiet on Taylor's side, he did loads of good defensive work. It would have been a big ask for McNeil to do the same with his experience.
Saturday is different and I hope he would be back.

Burton away next Tuesday is the perfect chance to give McNeil and Vydra a start assuming they are both fit.

Ryan Giggs wasn't starting regularly for Man United at that age. They usually need to be eased in, if on ly to lengthen their career.

Bournemouth at home on Saturday is the perfect chance to start Vydra. Anything else would be ridiculous after Sunday.

Steven Ward can pass with his right and control with it, with no issue.

Taylor on the other hand... His body position is constantly square on to the CB as he cannot take it at all on his right foot.
