I was looking forward to it but fell asleep halfway through because I was tired. Bit annoyed with myself. Woke up to some Big Brother crap. Both ends of the TV educational spectrum in one night.

Good God! If I woke up to Big Brother I'd need Counselling. It was touch and go if I needed specialist help after falling asleep during the Liverpool v PSG game at 2-2 and found out they won 3-2.

It was watching Michael Palin`s FANTASTIC travel shows in the 90s that gave me the travel bug and landed me where I am today! He is one hell of a presenter and never puts a foot wrong with his delivery (edited of course!). He is a magician with words and is the David Attenborough of the travel world in my eyes!

Get yerself to Hiroshima and I`ll show you the sights! Avoid mid-May until the end of September (typhoons/heavy rain and intense heat!) and you`ll be right! A rich and varied history like old Blighty, the locals are incredibly friendly and helpful (with a dark under belly like most nations) allied to a myriad of `sights and sounds` to delight and dumbfound the uninitiated. You will never regret coming!!!!

To say we did history at school there's a lot we missed out on...and the Korea situation is one I'm not up to speed with,the impression I was getting last night was America and Japan which is weird were the Aggressors? I'll now delve into the history books.

Japan were certainly aggressors where the whole Korean Peninsula is concerned and have been throughout history. There were thousands of Koreans killed when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima -most of whom were in forced labour or used as `comfort women` during World War II, home and abroad.

You`re not alone with drawing a blank on Japan`s war atrocities - many textbooks here still handily flit around the bad stuff which suits their `victims` badge perfectly.

That might throw some light on things and why the "North" have effectively like a crab took shelter from the world so to speak...will now delve into the history books As you say all nations have a dark side though. Yoiichinchiwo!

I`ll probably be in the UK for the last 10 days of March but will be back for the cherry blossom viewing parties in early April- very beautiful and SO Japanese...worth planning a trip around it. PERFECT weather too - daytime low 20s, nighttime low teens.

Only one question from me. Do they have AC?

If anyone has been watching Joanna Lumley and the Silk route a trip to Uzbekistan is very interesting.

Places like Samarkand and Bukhara are great places to see.

Hi Ontario, I've been to Tokyo a couple of times. Not only do they have a/c they also toilets that, let's say, take personal hygiene to a much higher level than any where else in the world.

But, it does give "pause for thought" when an earthquake warning is sounded when your hotel room is 25+ floors up.

Japan is on my "must take a touring holiday there" list. Previous visits were for work.

Japan leads the world in earthquake shock technology. All modern skyscrapers are built on huge springs to act as cushions. California is the same. Very stringent building codes.

And so I assume that the toilets are better than those found in Ireland and Turkey.

Funny many years ago I did buy a bar of it in the States , hey it's green also .

They pulled out all of the old stereotypes to advertise it, including a boyo washing in a rain barrow extolling its virtues. And then a comely lass comes up and says, "Ay, and I like it, too!" Made me want to go out and buy a whole casefull. Didn't have the same effect with the womenfolk for me, however.
