Heaton - 5 looked suspect for both goals, zero to do other than that.
Ward - 5 poor in both halves of the pitch
Mee - 6 steady
Long - 6 plus 1 for goal
Lowton - 6
JBG - 6
Westwood - 6
Defour - 6
McNeil - 6 decent first half, faded second and looked like running on empty
Wood - 3 wow, Barnes did more in 5 minutes than he did in 80. Missed a sitter.
Vydra - 5 nothing of note

Barnes - 6

That "performance" was really, really poor. Too many players looked way off the pace.
No quick zippy passing, looked lost of any sort of ideas. Their 2 CB had Wood in their pocket all might, the big lump up was noticeable it wouldn't work from about 30 minutes in.
In truth our team was strong enough to brush them aside and for whatever reason it didn't. They made Marvin Sordell look like Messi.

Really disappointed walking off there tonight.

I’m positive that dyche tells them to ‘take it easy’ in the cups. Happens to often for it to be a coincidence. It was a strong side tonight.

Not a number 9, looks lost when he is paired with a number 10. Played his best football in a partnership with Barnes last season.

Saw the line up tonight and thought he may bag against a lower league side but had a nagging feeling that it again wouldn't work.

Or an out and out number nine doing the donkey work for him to allow him to play his natural game.

It isn't suggesting the way we play is wrong, it has been successful for a long period of time, we just have to put the right players in the right positions alongside players who complement each other.

Where does it stop being the players and start being the manager. ‘Take it easy lads it’s only the cup’ ‘don’t get injured lads it’s only the cup’ etc.

Furious.

Wood has always been a confidence player.

The season before he bagged 30 for Leeds all their absolutely fans slated him.

Then he gets on these streaks and can’t stop scoring. Same for us last season (what was it, 10 in 20?). Now he’s struggling and looks poor.

Don't the players have any feelings for the fans. This was really lack lustre. In some ways similar to Olympiakos at home. On top the first half and with a bit more urgency could have put it to bed instead Burton should have had 3 in the end

Only positives-Defour looked really composed and got into the game well. Westwood was industrious. Ward looked calm at the back and pushed forward well. JBG at times looked a class above and McNeil had some good moments but can be a liability(think his mistake led to their second

Disappointments were Wood-outjumped all night and poor touch. Barnes should have come on earlier. Cannot see Wood commanding a first team spot the way he played. Vydra full of running but bit of a headless chicken. All that Ben Mee and Long can do is to just keep passing it side ways to one another. The PL now demands more from central defenders

Really disappointing night from what was a strong starting 11

Can't be motivated to score them

Just got home, what a wasted journey!

Heaton - 5
Ward - 3 - didn't look interested
Mee - 3 - one of his worst Burnley performances
Long - 5
Lowton - 4
JBG - 6
Westwood - 5
Defour - 7
McNeil - 5
Wood - 4
Vydra - 6

Barnes - 6

Absolutely awful to watch. There was no passion. We were losing with 2 minutes to play and we were knocking it around like we were 3-0 up. Ward couldn't be arsed. Defour did well, it says alot when he was our best defender and midfielder.

Burton played some good football and deserved to win. Actually embarrassed of the team tonight.

Couldn’t see the game, but it seems that Defour’s return was an encouraging one.

I’m sure had I seen the game I wouldn’t be so easily focusing on the positives.

Better today now Ive calmed down.Barnes should have started in a two with Vokes both would have caused problems all night.Vydra should had played behind them with Defour and Westwood.
Charlie Taylor should have been in at left back.Wardy was appalling.Shirking tackles and failing to link up with any players.Tom Heaton has not comeback as we hoped after injury. At fault for first goal and didnt inspire those around him.Ben Mee must be happy Gibson is not fit as he needed dropping after a gutless show like he put on last night.
It might be a mickey mouse cup, but its worth winning better to turn out the youth team

Didn't go last night so no marks

There does seem to be a theme to our cup games against lower league clubs. We always play in 2nd gear, no urgency, no fight, no passion.
I'm not saying the players don't care, but you look at our attitude to the games compared to theirs, and we don't deserve to win. Whether it's arrogance on our part, or SD is happy to concentrate on the league I don't know. I just wish we could go for it. Get a cushion and then take the foot off the gas.
A winnable tie, a good draw and we could have been in the last 8.

What a waste.

I have to say it is embarrassing to be a Burnley fan at times. I didn’t go but feel sorry for those that did. The team, and possibly Sean even more so should be ashamed. The travelling supporters deserve a lot better. Once again the team have contrived to Somehow fail to beat the perceived minnows, and the feel good factor from the Bournemouth result is lost. I’m now not confident that we can win in Cardiff, and neither will the team be I suspect.

Heaton 5
Lowton 6
Ward 6
Mee 5
Long 6
JBG 6
McNeil 6 (very good first 30)
Defour 6
Westwood 7*
Wood 4 - didn’t win a header all night
Vydra 5

Barnes 7

Awful result, but there’s no way we deserved to lose, we were in total control. Front two were awful though, and the way we conceded so easily with such a strong team is concerning.

Another who says we didn't deserve to lose, but lost because because we didn't take our chances and conceded two very poor goals.

Heaton 5
Ward 5
Mee 5
Long 6
Lowton 6
McNeil 6
Westwood 6 - has to score those
Defour 7 - we looked a hell of a lot better with him on
JBG 7
Wood 5
Vydra 5

Subs
Barnes 7
Vokes 6

You don't do the basics, you lose in cups. You can't miss the chances we did and make the defensive mistakes we did and expect to beat teams. It really is that simple.

Those having a go at the manager - he picked a strong side, and they are the ones who missed the chances and failed to stop the goals.

it isn't, but hey ho.

If you can ask those that were there how many chances we had (clear cut) compared to them.

If you can ask those that were there how many chances they had (clear cut)

Burton made zero mistakes at the back, and their keeper made two good saves from JBG and Wood

We made two mistakes at the back, the our keeper didn't make any saves at all

Team was strong enough to win, and we did enough to win comfortably (without saying it was a good performance, because it wasn't) but made mistakes.

Thats the players, not the manager.

You`re right, of course BUT maybe if the players feel every time these games come round that `the gaffer` isn`t so fussed about progressing, that MAY lead to a less than focused approach on the pitch, leading to what you describe above regards our profligacy in front of goal, the defenders not being switched on and the keeper metaphorically and literally taking his eye off the ball.

But thats just guesswork, and as everyone on here agrees, SD has based his entire thing on being honest with the players.

I can't see him saying anything different if we were playing Inter Milan, Liverpool or Forest Green Rovers.

You have to remember that the reason cup shocks happen is that players sometimes drop their performances. It happens.

More often than `sometimes` where Burnley are concerned. We`ll have to agree to disagree! I`m guessing as are you regards what Dyche does or does not say. Have a great day and up the Clarets!

I doubt our record is any worse than any other club that is between 7th and 20th in the premier league to be honest.

But it is annoying, and it was bloody frustrating last night, whatever the reasons are.

Heaton - 5 Poor from Heaton. Sad to say but on that viewing he's clearly third choice when Pope is fit.
Ward - 5 Continuing his run off poor form. Worrying.
Mee - 5 Sluggish. Shadow of last season's player. Gave away possession too many times. When is Gibson back?
Long - 6 One extra mark for his goal
Lowton - 5 Poor. I was screaming for him to replace Bardsley but he was off the pace last night. Caught the wrong side too many times, and poor delivery
JBG - 4 Was he even playing? Dyche should have brought Lennon on early in the second half IMO
Westwood - 7 Solid performance. At least showed for the ball and tried to increase our pedestrian tempo
Defour - 6 Decent enough, coasted it really but more important to get minutes in the tank without any set backs. Great to see him back.
McNeil - 5 Ineffective, looked naive at times. Showed a couple of promising moments but clearly needs to be given time.
Wood - 3 Awful. Did he win a header? Needs to rediscover some form and fast.
Vydra - 6 Ran the channels quite well, movement looked good but supply into him lacking and not enough support from his strike partner.

Barnes - 6 Would have given him a 7 based on his first five minutes. Very unlucky not to score an excellent goal. After that his petulant side began to come through. Gave away needless fouls and was more interested in moaning at the ref.

Dyche - 4 Needs to get to the bottom of why we continue to lose these games. Banana skins can and do happen, but on this regularity? Questions marks over the squad character possibly when facing so called lesser opposition. I thought his subs were poor, wrong times and wrong players (Defour coming off aside).

I didn't go last night, just listened to the commentary on the radio.
It looks as though it was a lot worse on the pitch than on the radio.
