Team for Cardiff

Clearly nobody that came in has staked a claim or wants to play enough other than Defour. Same as v Bournemouth I think. Maybe Defour to partner Cork if not on bench.

As per Bournemouth for me. Can't see any reason to change it.

Agreed, Defour's a damn good option from the bench though

I'd have thought the only possible change from the side against Bournemouth - barring injuries - could be Barnes for Vokes. But makes a lot of sense to stick with the same team as last Saturday.

Can definitely see the argument and attraction of sticking him on the bench - I assume that will boil down to his recovery last night, although I've my doubts about Defour as a sub - he strikes me as the sort of player who is a bit of an injury risk when he's coming off the bench, relatively cold (and by the same token, I'm not sure he's the sort of player who will be able to quickly make an impact on a game off the bench).
I think we're all focusing on Hudds a week on Saturday for his first start - which is ideal, as it's exactly the sort of game when we'll need him, and a 4-2-3-1 with him and Cork behind Vydra, JBG and Lennon, looks to have exactly the sort of ingredients we've lacked occasionally in these sorts of games.

Same as Bournemouth
We need to get back to a consistent starting XI. I'd make an exception for Defour when he's ready, and the same for Brady.

If Defour couldn't conjure up something winning against Burton, I'm not sure why Ashley Westwood, who didn't do the glory stuff against Bournemouth but was, at least, as influential as the two wingers, would be dropped for him.

If your best players are fit, play them...and play your best players in their best positions.
Same as last week but Defour for Westwood.

I'd be a tad worried if we started with just Defour ad Cork in midfield.
It's one of those games where we're going to be under pressure for
probably longish periods of the game as Cardiff will be seriously up for getting their first win.
I think we might need both Cork and Westwood alongside Defour
leaving just two up front - Vydra and Vokes/Barnes or Wood.
Unless of course we bang in a couple fairly early on.
However that would mean dropping one of our wingers and can't see that happening
after Saturday when it seems Lennon and JBG were our best players.
I suspect Dyche will start with the team against Bournemouth and have the option of bringing
on either Defour, Barnes or Wood or others where required.
Personally I'd give Wood a start. He needs to find his touch and see whether he can
get something going with Vydra. They are our most likely goalscorers this season
albeit Barnes bagged two on Saturday.

What formation are you playing with 3 central midfield and 2 up top? SD isnt going to do anything other than 451, 4411 or 442.

Westwood has his best game for us against Bournemouth.
Not sure how we fit Defour in the team.

Wood and Vydras combo didn’t work against Burton. What makes you think they should start against Cardiff? Vydra and Vokes for me to start

That's the combination I'd like to see tried. I don't think it will though. Unless it's during one of SD's trademark offset substitutions where he disrupts our own shape by making 2 attacking substitutions 4 minutes apart...

Vert interesting selection Bop.
Radical I would have to say.
Starting without a goalkeeper would surprise most opposition.

As I'm sure has been mentioned, I don't see why we just don't start with the same team that beat Bournemouth 4-0, but with Defour making the bench. If he does start then it'll be instead of Westwood.

I've thought for some time that one of SD's strengths was fielding the same team week after week, and showing faith in that selection.
Perhaps it's time to get back to that, so same team as vs Bournemouth.

Have faith with the team that won at Bournemouth.
We can bring Barnes and Defour on if it's not going our way at half time.
Really want to see Vydra and Vokes develop a good relationship, I think they pair up better than any of our other strikers.

Hart
Lowton Tarkowksi Mee Taylor
Lennon Cork Defour Gudmundsson
Vydra
Barnes
Defour and Barnes were the only players arguably to come out of Burton with any credit, whilst Westwood played well against Bournemouth - Defour is our best player and if fit has to play, for me. Vokes has been doing OK but is not offering a goal threat, Barnes looked in the short period he had on the pitch against Burton to be back to what I expect of him.

Same as Bournemouth, barring Barnes in for Vokes. Simply because that Cardiff defence look clumsy and a bit disorganised. Barnes would wind them up big time, plus he seems the most likely of him, Wood and Vokes to hit the old onion bag.

Not seen much of him but could Vydra fill the Ings role which seemed to bring the best out of Vokes?

That was 5 years ago. Vokes is a shadow of the player he was then.

A fair point...he does look a little on the cumbersome side BUT Woods is hardly pulling up any trees at the moment. Vokes or Barnes for me with Vydra.
I`ll keep pushing for 4-3-2-1 (will be great and have superb options if/when Defour and Brady return)
Even if it isn`t Plan A, it would certainly be better than no Plan B
Hart
Lowton Tarkowski Mee Taylor
Hendrick Cork Westwood
Gudmundsson Vydra
Barnes

Very difficult decision to drop Westwood who has been playing very well but Defour is more creative. So Defour for the first 60 minutes just edges it. Vokes linked up well with Vydra against Bournemouth and deserves to keep his place. Start with JBG on the right.

That sounds like a decent first eleven, Woodleyclaret
although I think Dyche will start with Lennon - possibly instead of Defour.
Especially given Lennon had a good game against Bournemouth.
If he and JGB can deliver the same form as last week then we could be in
with a chance of 3 points which would be 'massive' and send out a clear message.
Lose and Cardiff will go above us and feel they're still in with a chance of staying up
whereas we will still be regarded as bottom three.
A win alongside a good performance will do wonders for our confidence and
put us in the right frame of mind for Huddersfield next week.
Especially given we've got Man City and Chelsea to follow

Defour an option in the second half, probably for Westwood, depending on how the game is going.

Other than the village idiot not a single person has suggested playing Ward. Poor defending can be coached out of a young player, avoiding tackles for whatever reason simply can’t be condoned
