Our best ever non British/Irish 11

Could be quite difficult because we havent had many good foreign players but here goes...

Jensen
Cox Gnohere Bikey Kalvanes
JBG Defour Hyde Gudjonsson Papadapoulos
Wood

Blood hell that was hard took me quite a while to think. Not a great 11 really is it.

Is it time for us to sign better quality foreign players ? Id prefer us to stick British.

The thought of Bikey and Gnohere paired in central defence has just made me break out in a rash.

Not sure why you have picked Cox as a full back either.

Mears played for Jamaica once, could he go at right back?

Goalkeeper is really tough - we've had a few non British/Irish but struggling to think of one better than Jensen - Kval, Cemmone (sp?), Penny. On limited viewing maybe Lindegaard?

Mears, Cox, Diallo, Kalvanes
Valois, Defour, Djemba Djemba, JBG
Wood, Wells (or Barnes if he counts)

Without giving this much thought, Drissa Diallo would be a better option at CB than Gnohere, and Eric Djemba-Djemba could replace most of those in midfield.
Edit: just beat me to it with Diallo and Eric (Earby) :)

No Remco Van de Schaff in midfield?

Nik Michopolous ?

Forgot about Djemba Djemba was good for us.

Frank Sinclair was Jamaican wasnt he ?

I knew there was a goalkeeper who'd slipped my mind - I'd probably put Michopoulos ahead of Jensen - although he was capable of 'throwing one in' - Forest away springs to mind.

You're right about Frank Sinclair - he is Jamaican and at his best would edge Diallo.

I'd also forgotten Ade Akinbye is Nigerian.

Fernando Guerero. The most fouled player in Premier League history.

Did Jensen ever get his testimonial?

Feel sorry for the big guy....

Glad that somebody included Scotty Arfield. You're also missing that other famous Canuck David Edgar (last seen playing as a striker, believe it or not, for the Canadian national side).

I’m hoping Vydra becomes better than all the other strikers mentioned.

Did you know that exilecanada and David Edgar live in the same city (and it IS a city, unlike that hicktown, Morrisburg), not that he would ever probably admit it.

Bikey in worst ever? give over, he wasn't brilliant but nowhere near as bad as some like to make out.
Karbassiyoon was a left back I thought? Berisha looked good when I saw him in a pre-season game against Leeds, terrible luck with injury.

Bikey for £3m - which was a lot of money at the time for us was a truly awful signing. Some of the worst performances I have ever seen in a burnley shirt and even worse a player who often gave up trying in his career.
But feel free to pick a non British centre back who you think was worse.
Berisha cost us money also and had a big build up - he was way out of his depth before and after his injury.

Kalvenes

JBG
Djemba Djemba

Arfield

Barnes
Vydra

And it was later established that he wasn't entitled to have played for them.

Don't think you'll find too many with much argument on that in terms of how they did or didn't play at Burnley.

That's a rotten team but Bikey shouldn't be in it. He did have some good games but he had attitude issues.

That he never got in the first team !
The fact he spent most of his career playing in the A League is also a bit of a clue to his level.

In all seriousness I was on the England B game played at the Turf and he played brilliantly. I think Michael Owen played but Berisha was the best player on the pitch that evening. His injury with us i’m guessing had a big impact on his time here and his subsequent career.

As a club we have not had that many overseas players really so it’s quite hard picking a best or worst eleven as already that’s 22 players - my guess is we have only had around 50 non British players (possibly a few more). I maybe way off the mark !

Sanokho who played under Cotterill has to be in the worst team.

He was on the bench at Grimsby in the League Cup but then went off on international duty and came back with his ACL. I don't think he'd have been good enough to play for us now, far from it, but he got a poor deal from the manager when he did return from injury, was treated very badly I was told.

Yep forgot all about him
He replaces Berisha then !

Sanokho was in the category of George Weah’s brother who played for Southampton for Souness and scammed his way into the team !

I’m still having Bikey in - the very definition of a bad apple !

Actually that line up isn't too bad. The midfield looks fine and the two forwards could be worse. Big J in goal is a good call. The defence would struggle a bit in the PL though.

Bikey is capable of turning out for both the best and worst team, depending on how he feels on the day.

How about the midget who played in the nets at Cheltenham. Was it Kval?

Kval was in net at Darlington away when we lost 3:2 and Payton got sent off.

Luigi Cenamo was the keeper who came on for Michopolous at Cheltenham.

I wasn't at Darlington but I was at Cheltenham and Cenamo was well out of his depth. Dean West had to take the goal kicks and free-kicks around the the area, the lad couldn't kick the ball.

He wasn't small, though, 6 foot 2. I never saw Kval, maybe he was the small one.
