• We will be the first to play with yellow balls

The Premier League winter ball appears this weekend for the first time. It will be used once the clocks go back which means this Sunday's games including ours against Chelsea. I've still not quite worked out why there is a need to switch colour to be honest.

We use yellow shuttlecocks when we play badminton and it’s surprising how better they stand out against the backgrounds of the walls and ceiling, that minnie second can make all the difference in picking up the flight of the SC so I expect it’s the same with football..of yeah and they sell more balls as Martin says

Same as tennis and table tennis. So much easier to see when light isn’t at it’s best.

Correct PB if you play ball or any other sport that involves focusing as quickly as possible to gain advantage then it becomes obvious that the yellow balls are better then the white ones under certain conditions, here’s another account:

Its definitely a cynical marketing trick by the PL. My eldest always likes the new PL ball when it comes out in the summer. That gets used until October and hey presto, they change the colour and he wants that one as well.

Perhaps spending a bit more time in the opposition box might help our cause when it comes to getting penalties. If Ben Mee starts finding our own players feet I for one will believe all the marketing behind the yellow merlin ball.

I'm sure I read somewhere that even that ball would be the same weight at kick off as the ball we'll be using on Sunday. Obviously that one got heavier depending on the weather but I don't think the rules have changed on ball weight and pressure for about 100 years.

TBH a football is a damn site bigger than a table tennis ball so if you're having trouble seeing it in any colour you probably shouldn't be playing professionally!

Clubshop sell the prem balls at 22 quid each, you can get them at Argos for £18. They are pretty decent to be fair.

I'm sure it's all for television. The white ball used to look like a balloon on the centre spot of a muddy old Turf back in the 70s. 10 minutes later it was brown. So would a yellow ball be?

I spotted that too, but they had previously confirmed they wouldn't be used until the clocks went back and that they would be used at Burnley and Palace. That definitely changed because we had to use the yellow ball at the youth game yesterday morning.
