Diving Should Be a Special Card

The amount of diving going on these days is ridiculous. Maybe it shouldn't be a straight red, but something more than an ordinary yellow is needed. Maybe an orange card, and if you accumulate 3, a five game suspension, or something along those lines. I think that would have an effect.

It need addressing. Personally id be embarassed if I was the manager of a player doing that not to mention if i was the player.

I think a yellow - if done properly, is perfect.

The punishment isn't the problem, it's how often that punishment is given out.

Unfortunately, shaming doesn't work for these guys, cricketfields. For them, it's strictly a results business. I've often wondered what's being said when they all rush to congratulate each other after a goal is scored. Probably something along the lines of "That was great. You earned me another million pounds on my next contract".

needs the PL to ban them for 4 games retrospectively even if the ref books them

A booking is no longer enough. Where after the game it's beyond any doubt a player dived in attempt to create a goal scoring opportunity a suspension should be handed out.

Perhaps "special" punishment could be sent off to a sin bin for 20 mins?
Not sure how this would help in last 20 mins though...

Once VAR is established it should be an automatic red, nothing else will work.

Agreed. There should be a concerted effort by the media to shame divers. There should be greater punishment as well. Automatic bans and the like.
I hated it when Willian not only dived but saw fit to look shocked and argue with the ref when he got booked.

Should be a yellow, then upgraded to a red with a mandatory 5 match ban after the game, if proved by the cameras.

This whole not being able to ban players because they didnt con the ref is completely backward.

Implement the above and it stops in weeks, guaranteed.

Like I've said. It's not enough because it's rarely sanctioned. How often do you see a yellow brought out for a dive? 1 in 50?

Make it compulsory and then let's see what happens.

That doesn't really make any sense though. The referee, or his assistant has seen the dive and it's a dive - there's not really any middle decision. So it's a yes or a no.

The problem is it's often difficult for the ref to be certain. That's why retrospective punishment is needed until such time as VAR can promote immediate action.

It makes perfect sense as it's a bit of a grey area and they can be quite tough calls, so the refs need some support.

It should be a ban if you dive, not only if you successfully conned the ref.

Yellow card during the game but the ability to upgrade or downgrade afterwards would fit perfectly.

That german referee against Istanbul at Turf had a long spell of ignoring players' pretendin and diving antics. After about 10mins it almost completely stopped.

Give them a 5 game ban, whether they get booked in the game for it or it is discovered retrospectively. It's a joke and is ruining the game. Currently, there is no deterrent so players do it whenever they like

Pawson booked 2 of them today, and it stopped. Actually, one of them got subbed and headed directly to the change rooms under a chorus of "******, ******, ******, ******.....". I absolutely loved it. Actually, it was my favourite part of the game.

A yellow in the game with a possible ban afterwards is no good if the dive affects the result of the game. If it’s seen in the game it should be a red there and then.

That’d surely be the best way to put an end to it once and for all. As it stands, we are pretty much condoning cheating.

In my opinion if a player dives for a penalty, they should award a penalty to the opposition. Much more effective than a ban or a yellow card if a footballer’s cheating influences the game in a negative fashion for their own team, it would soon be stamped out

The ref of course can be an incompetent muppet like Super Jonny Moss who had another horror show in Manchester.Thats the problem.Shite refs favour top teams.

Diving is something we need to get 'better' at. Whether we like it or not, it's part of the game and we need to get a little bit smarter in this area.

I've been saying this for about 10 years. Said the same for England at tournaments too.

No one is dealing with it so we either have to continue to play honestly and allow a few penalties, free kicks and consequently losses to cheating and continue to bang the drum no-one is listening to or become the best at it and use it to our advantage.

A second yellow should be a red.
If it's the first offence it could be accompanied with a 15 minute sin bin.
Sit them on a too small stool on the half way line, on the opposite side from the dugout. The roasting they get for 15 minutes should deter anyone.

Sin bin for twenty minutes. If it's at end of game you start next match with ten men until the twenty minutes are made up.

Sin bin during a match would be useful.
