File the pig alongside other low life like Ian Huntley and that. Attention seeking with it too.

Completescum.

Wouldn’t be welcome here and would take much worse verbal from us in our colours than even players from from opposing teams get.

Love the James McClean season. I didn't even stop to remember until he started playing football. Totally reinvigorated the whole thing.

"The Football Association is investigating a social media post by Stoke winger James McClean in which he described some of the Championship club's fans as "uneducated cavemen".

To be fair, he's got a fairly watertight case here.

Wasn't he trying to fight Boro fans as one journalist tweeted?

Some people, they can give a man dogs abuse for his political preferences, hurling vile, horrible abuse and threats, but then cry like babies when he responds.

For someone in his privelaged position he should still not be making comments like that.

I was working for sky Bet at the weekend, I do the handshake arch and Center circle Matt before the game, I get to watch the game from the touch line or where ever I want, much as I dislike James MAC, the abuse he received from the home fans was incredible, he just turned and laugh , shrugged his shoulders and carried on his warm up, this went on all game, and at the end a Boro fan tried to attack him over the stand wall..

Because as footballers they should be man enough to take all kinds of abuse without reply. They are role models after all. What sort of example is that to all those kids. What sort of detrimental effect will it have on their future as abuse hurlers if they see someone answering them back at such an impressionable age. Scarred for life.

Oh please the guy is entitled to his opinions. He has just reasons for his beliefs and does not deserved to be abused in such a way.

How the poppy is even allowed on kits I do not know. When players like Xhaka get fined for goal celebrations of an eagle or whatever for his support of his country why should we do allow our players to display poppies. Much like Pep and his support for the Barcelona independence last year, he got fined. Football is supposed to bring people together hence the rules on not displaying messages and the like on kits. Why should football kits be exempt.

I am not disrespecting the dead and our present armed forces but a minutes silence should be enough. Its not a competition of who can display their sorrow for the fallen and serving the most.

Can someone tell me what he has done wrong? I've read the BBC article on it and I don't actually see what he has done wrong...

Let me guess, it's another case of someone being offended on behalf of someone else...? Am I right...?

He has a right to play football wherever he chooses.

Does your workplace insist that you wear a poppy?

The tweet I saw of his instagram post was full of swear words etc.
I didn't read it properly as I thought it was just fake. I mean which footballer in their right mind would use social media like that when the fines they get dished out are huge.

yeah, I've seen it now - I agree that he should be brought to task over that kind of behaviour as it does bring the game into disrepute. I do think that he should have the right to choose whether to wear a poppy or not though and he should be permitted to choose for himself, I can imagine it is a little tiresome for him given that he has explained his reasons on many occasions.

He was a kid who probably had no other skills. Football was his way out. Sam Vokes plays for Wales, does that make him a traitor? Ashley Barnes would happily play for Austria although he has never been, does that make him a traitor? Football is a game, politics should stay seperate

I just feel the poppy has become something it is not. People die for our right to choose how we live our lives in a society where we dont have to follow. If somebody famous does not wear a poppy nowadays they are abused in newspapers and social media. I am sure those that died didnt die so people would wear a poppy for a few weeks a year. I wear one and I have my little girl wearing one but I dont bully anyone that chooses not to.

I’ve always wondered why footballers bother with public social media accounts.

Unless you’re in the minority who are able to use it as means of marketing income, you’re basically there to be abused. Woe betide anyone who dishes any abuse back.

United fans did abuse him according a friend who is a season ticket holder there and many snubbed him after the game in the lounge where the players and some of the more richer fans mingle.

But because its Man Utd not much will be reported on that as they have the media in their pockets

I remember a Belle Vue speedway rider knocking a fan spark out for the abuse he was being given, while sat on his bike waiting for tapes up. At that time everyone's attitude was "Well he's been asking for that for a while" as the St Johns brought the fan back around with smelling salts.
We used to call it disrespect not offense, and there was a lot less of it about as a result of how it was generally dealt with,

Can't see the word traitor in my post. Just puzzled by his stance, had I had the same feelings as McClean towards this country (which his own words in his angry post display how he sees things) my own personal pride would stop me earning a living in that country. I am not arsed if he wears a poppy or not but I do find his stance to be of a hypocrite. Matic refused at weekend too, despite having worn it in previous years again just to be clear not arsed that is his own choice. I compare more like the viewpoint we shouldn't deal with awful countries like Saudi Arabia but then happily sell them weapons.

Not sure what Barnes & Vokes have to do with it.

Too true. I am sure those that died would be shaking there heads that an individual is expected to be abused for having a different belief system by thousands of small minded fans. I am sure that was what they gave their lives for

He has always maintained this stance but perhaps a dignified silence may have brought him more respect and understanding.

Traitor is just one of the words I have seen thrown his way this weekend on social media thats all. I just find myself shaking my head with the bully boy tactics just because someone is different.

Barnes and Vokes was in reply to the poster saying he had played for N.Ireland then swapped. I was just displaying that footballers if given a chance would play for any country if they cant play for their own. They soon find a long distant relative who originates from that country. Usually by that time they are grown men also. McClean was a kid when he made his decision playing for a pittance, just wanting to make a career out of it as he probably had no other chance of progressing

Not wearing a poppy is his own choice. Other people also for whatever reason don't want one.

What I don't understand is why, seeing as he hates the UK so much that he can't even stand still for the national anthem, he chooses to earn a living here? He could get a job in most of Europe's professional leagues. If I hated a country so much that I couldn't respect their anthem (Pakistan comes to mind with current events), then I certainly wouldn't want to earn a living there.

Glad you admit it.

Or do you think that leaving out words can make a difference to the original meaning?

I'll try and make it simple enough even for you. I wrote one paragraph saying it's his own choice to wear a poppy. That is not a criticism, though you seem to think it is.

I wrote another paragraph criticising his attitude to the national anthem. You left out everything about the national anthem and chose to link my national anthem criticism to the poppy - even though to the smallest intelligences on here (yourself excepted) it was clear that wasn't what I meant.

No. Read again. I said "I didn't say that he had said he hates the UK, just that he hates the UK so much that he can't even stand still for the national anthem.

Look at the words in bold type and underlined. He doesn't say in words that he hates the UK, but his actions suggest he does.
