Why have the people that have done this thought it was appropriate? And to have brown figures in the effigy as they burn it.
I'm not calling for any punishment because they are free to do what they want but the blatant racism and disrespect is disgusting.

Regardless of the colours of the figures they are complete idiots and want sorting out.
What would make anybody with half a brain cell do what they have done?

The level some human beings will sink too and the obsession they have with feeling the need to film it and share it with the world. Weird.

Is it in bad taste? Yes. Would I do it? No. Has a crime been commited? No. Have the police got better things to do? Yes. After the Challanger disaster did anyone make the joke about what NASA stands for? I'm tired of being told that I should be outraged

What a scumbag thing to do, however, we'd need a massive police force if we are going to start prosecuting every bellend in the UK.

I do wonder what these lowlifes could possibly contribute to a decent society and wouldnt mind seeing them given a sentence of hard labour building a school for some poor deprived kids in Africa, or Blackburn, but that may be why im not in charge

It’s what the effigy represents. I’m not condoning it just that it’s on par with those who burn our flag out of pure hatred.
Nice to see the usual suspects Produce their usual faux outrage whilst not fully understanding what they are talking about.

The flag can represent lots of different things to different people. An effigy where people burned to death, in a poor area of the country, a lot of whom were of colour, is just pure malicious and disgusting and nothing akin to burning a flag.

What’s people of colour got to do with anything in this instance? Apart from being used as a trump card yet again.
Anyway clearly spectacularly missed the point as expected. My bad it may have been a tad leading. Certainly haven’t disappointed.

I can imagine 1 brain dead idiot amongst a large circle of friends and family thinking this would be a funny thing to do. What I don't get is that everyone on the video seemed to be amused by it.

it isnt in the least bit surprising unfortunately.
social media displays atrocious abuse and similarly despicable behaviour on a daily basis.
Sign of the times, every single news story has comments which are often vile. Its the nature of the medium,. sadly the country has thousands and thousands of people who are debased enough to post virtually anything about anybody.

Another example of our police state arresting people for non-crimes motivated by political pressure. A society without the freedom to offend is not free.

I thought you were in favour of locking up extremists for things that aren't crimes.
It's a shame you aren't consistent because then we could be allies against this sort of thing.

Seems you don't care in this instance either so same goes back to you.
Difference is this one is obviously a distasteful joke, the ones you defend want to kill people and take steps to ensure that happens.

The ones i "defend", as you falsely put it, only hold extreme views. If they had taken steps to ensure that people are killed then that would be a crime.

I'm pretty sure Moffitt wants to lock up anyone who shares particular characteristics with extremists, just to be on the safe side.

It's described a few times in various articles as a "hateful" act, which presumably is the only legal course of prosecution. But it's not born of hate, it's born of ignorance and stupidity. As someone else says if you were to prosecute here you're on very dodgy ground. It's absolutely dispicable what they did, and in very poor taste. But that's all. Their arrest, based on that social media video and subsequent collective mob pressure, feels a little bit 1984 to me.

The problem is that it was shared online. Amongst friends, privately it’s just a sick joke. But people can’t help themselves these days.

It's not a question of how I feel when applying the law, which in a liberal democracy is sacrosanct. I feel exactly the same as IT with regards to the Manchester bombing, but I wouldn't want those responsible prosecuted.
You have to ask yourself what the motivation was for building that awful effigy, and deciding it was fine and dandy to post on social media. Was their motivation a hatred of the victims and their families and finding a way to influence and spread that hatred? Or was it a complete lack of empathy, a massive misjudgment based on ignorance and a horrible sense of humour?
The moment you start arresting people for the latter you are in dangerous territory. Regardless of the ideological pitfalls our jails are full enough.

This is it the need people feel to share the most strangest things. Imagine been identified for something like this and having to walk into work the next day.

Exactly, society has already judged these morons. Name and shame these idiots, they will have to live with their own stupidity, but using the law seems a step too far.

I'd be furious but I sure as **** wouldn't be calling for arrests
Truth is though I don't think there would be any. The one reason this has resulted in arrests is because they painted most of their little paper faces brown. That's it. If they didn't do that, nobody would have ever heard about this.
