If you had £25 million to spend in January...

Scenario: Your chairman decides that we need one real quality signing in January and he/she informs you (as manager of BFC) that you can try and sign a player in the £25 million 'quality range'. What position would be your priority and who would you have on your shortlist?

Powerful, box to box central midfielder with quality on the ball.

I doubt Loftus Cheek would come but someone of that ilk.

It does if you look in the right places.

We just restrict ourselves too much.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to payoff Dyche's contract?

Matteo Guendouzi 7m + add ons.

Central midfield would be my priority, it’s where I think we’ve been weakest this season and it’s affected us both defensively and offensively.

Loftus-Cheek is a good shout although unattainable and probably way outside the £25m budget. Lewis Cook is one that looks a real prospect.

Hi DA, we could take the view that it would be 4 times his annual salary - based on 4 years remaining. So, 4 x £3.5 million = £14 million.

Then there are his coaching staff to be paid off also.

On the other hand, is that an awful waste of money.

The club would still need a manager and coaching staff - and we'd all want the club to hire the best.

And, we all know who the best manager for Burnley FC is - the guy we've already got managing the club.

The players are definitely are definitely out there it's just we restrict ourselves by shopping in the Championship too much and Dyche's British is best policy.

Id buy £25m worth of Twixs wholesale price. Sell them off and with the £3b pound profit buy the Man City first 11.
Champions. Easy.

(If anyone at the club reads this, Im joking. Please don’t do this)

Bruno from sporting would be my pick, you’d have some change left over aswell he’s hendrick money 23 and lightening quick attacking midfielder.... not forgetting Portuguese international.

Mooy wouldve been an excellent signing a few years ago. However not convinced he offers us much more than what we have, or rather doesnt address what we need.

Shelvey is a good shout.

Not a bad shout.

William Carvallho would have been a class signing. He ended up leaving for £16m and wasnt on big wages.

2 players minimum, would probably have to be loan and a buy.

-Pacey 1v1 option, preferably for the left wing

-Powerful defensive midfielder

Ideally I’d also like another creator, would probably have to be a loan too.

We’ll have to disagree. Wood, Vokes and Barnes are all different styles of line leading strikers but none of them are top goal scorers. They all just get enough to keep their job.

Staying in Portugal, Rafa Silva of Benfica. Rapid winger, can play either side, excellent 1v1

I firmly believe Wood can be a goalscorer for us. He needs real service though like he had at Leeds. And we need more goals from midfield.

I don't think we can afford the type of goal scorer you're thinking of! Not for £25 million

you mean this Bruno with the 100m Euro release clause in his newly signed contract - it took 30 seconds to find that info and I don't recall seeing him play - but if you think that is Hendrick money then Sean is obviously doing something right with his signings

We have very poor supply. And create very few chances. Probably the lowest in the league. Yet Barnes, Wood and Vokes have all scored 9 or more at premier league level. Which isnt bad. Especially when we have them all!

At championship level Vokes, Vydra and Wood have all scored over 20.

Wood has an excellent international goalscoring record and Vydra and Vokes have done alright and have both scored at a reasonable rate at international level. In Vokes case in big games.

We have good strikers.

Obviously better players would help, but I think it's getting to the stage where it's up to Dyche to progress and evolve his tactics to take us up a level. We've signed a pacy, attacking winger in Lennon and he's clearly under instructions to spend all his time tucking infield or tracking back. With our budget apart from a big powerhouse centre mid not sure where we can majorly improve anyhow.

The Winter window is always tougher than the Summer window and I think that is certainly going to be the case in January. A couple of players who could have fit our needs moved in the last window, while we were busy wasting our time with WBA.

The candidates that could meet our needs and might be open to a move in the next window are very thin on the ground, when you take into account our finances and reduced appeal. Adding to that our focus on the domestic market and our potential options look meagre.

This would account for my £25mil spend. I would have liked Thomas Foket, but he went to Reims in the closing days of the last window for 3mil and he is doing okay for them (bugger).

Maximilian Arnold - Wolfsberg

Estimate - 08-10 million

A quality left footed centre midfielder on his day, but he can be inconsistent. He demonstrated a lot of promise in his early career, although he seems to have stagnated a little bit in the comfort zone of Wolfsberg.

I see him as a younger Defour type with a lot of potential to improve if he is given the opportunity to stretch himself and a greater impetus to raise his game. A new environment could do that.

He was obviously considering a move elsewhere in 2017, but he signed a new contract with Wolfsberg instead. Wolfsberg are heavily sponsored by and hugely dependant on Volkswagen who indicated they would be reviewing their sponsorship even before dismal relegation battle of last year.

This decision isn't purely football related as Volkswagen are looking to cut their costs in response to what is happening within their core business. Wolfsberg have performed equally poorly this season, which could be a consequence of assembling a group of expensive individuals instead of a team.

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-volks ... KKBN18I1DS" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Shipping out Arnold to reduce their costs and bring in revenue to support a rebuild is a speculative assumption on my part, but not without grounds.

Steven Zuber

Estimate - 06-08 million

Still liking this guy, but his appearances in the World Cup jacked up his visibility and presumed price a bit. Good player and everything points to a very good attitude. The type of player who could do really well with us.

He would fit in as a quality back up on both wings. His game time this season has been limited, which is a surprise when you consider that the Hoffenhiem midfield has been devastated by injuries.

When he has appeared for them he has played in a more central attacking role. Last season he had a solid spell as their left back. The lack of appearances by Ward this season have me a bit worried about his ability to continue meeting the heavy demands of the Premiership. Quality left backs are also thin on the ground in the Championship, our normal hunting grounds, at the moment.

I would see Zuber as a replacement for Arfield in that he would function as a midfield utility man. He would also give us an option for left back if we were to need it.

Despite his recent valuation spike I still think we could get him out of Hoffenheim for a respectably low price. As their midfield players return from injury they will be awash with options in the middle of the pitch, to complement their abundance of wide players. Zuber is a player they could easily lose and his prospect of playing time would be a lot higher with us.

Andreas Pereira 06-08 million

We could really use a quality attacking midfielder. Under the circumstances Jeff has done a fantastic job for us, but it is easy to see that we aren't getting the best out of him when we play him in that stop gap role. He is a top quality central midfielder and his performances show it. We need him to play in the position that he plays his best football in.

Andreas Pereira certainly isn't the finished product, but we can't afford to pay anywhere near what it would take to bring in a ready to rock player. His performances for Valencia, which were diluted by playing him on both wings, showed he has quality.

At the start of the season Man Utd played him in a central midfield holding role and he showed promise. He obviously favours a central role and I think he would be even better playing higher up the pitch. Granted, he might not be able to tick every box for what we need right now, but he could very well do in a year or two.

The lad is obviously desperate to play, or at the very least to be in a potion where he has a very real chance of playing. After his initial matches this season he has been returned to the Man Utd closet and starved of any more appearances. Moving could be the only way for him to get that and with a contract that ends in 2019 (with a 1 year extension option for both parties) now could be the best time to prise him away.

Kyle Scott - Chelsea

Out of contract 2019

Estimate - A couple of quid to take him off their hands and avoid the U24 free transfer compensation

Definitely wants to leave Chelsea having put in a transfer request in 2016 and failed to sign a new contract in 2017. He has spent the time since then on loan.

A long way off the finished article, but he could develop into a player within our youth system.

I could have made it shorter by going all in for one player, but the idea of us spending £25mil on a single player still makes my legs feel like jelly.

Despite the length of my previous post and the negligible chance of it ever leading to anything, I think it has a far higher potential for garnering support than the brexit draft. I'm all down for no deal on that front.

Nobody wants a no deal outcome, but after our farcical negotiations since the vote it is the only way to clean the slate so we can embark on new negotiations from a position of some strength - instead of disunity and expectant capitulation.
