Today, my son got taken to Stanley with his school. He got to meet the players and received a free home shirt. To say he was impressed was an understatement. Fair play to them, done some important work there to get the next generation of fans interested. Can’t imagine, even with our millions, that we would ever do something like this.

What a grand gesture from Stanley. In the grand scheme if things a few shirts cost very little. Agree it's the way to attract the next generation. Great forward thinking. Well done to them.

Burnley would charge the schoolkids to attend.

Good for them! They seem to be doing things in the right way and not just on the pitch.

I will certainly be having another look down there as I had a great time last time I was on and also in the pub next to the ground beforehand.

Just been on BBC North West News. Fair play to the club. The children seemed to enjoy the trip.

They are having as good a spell as anytime in their history at the moment but are always going to struggle for support when they are slap bang between us and t'other buggers down't road.

They invited every primary schoolchild in Hyndburn to the club and gave them all a shirt free of charge.

I think any criticism of BFC is a bit harsh here. How can we be expected to invite local children to the club and give them free shirts when we're already commited to giving £250,000 to Richard Scudamore ?

Second year they have done this. Lovely gesture and a good try to attract some new support.

Heard their owner on radio today. He was talking about the championship clubs not being happy with the sky deal and how he thinks they will break away if it’s not sorted.

He mentioned that the new deal will mean Accy’s tv money will increase to over £800k a year which he said he was happy with. They have come a very long way as a club and Coleman as manager is perfect for them.

They’ve made real progress on all fronts in recent years, and this is a fantastic idea and gesture.

Went to see them a few months ago during one of the international breaks, and for such a small club punching above their weight in League 1, they play some lovely stuff.

Yes, a fabulous gesture, well done AS. Would love to see them in the Championship battering Rovers.

Lovely gesture but they'll always be a small club. Could give away half a million shirts and they would still struggle to break 2000 a game.

A good idea but would giving tickets to games would be a better way of getting kids interested wouldn't it?

In fairness it is ridiculously cheap for kids to go. Can’t remember how much but I’m sure if they bought a season ticket it was about £3 a game.

What a pity the kids will end up supporting a bigger club. Probably Man U.

A classic of it's kind. Burnley FC have been voted North West Premier League Community Club of the Year for the last 4 years running and I have first hand experience of the fantastic work done by BFC in the Community via the pleasure my dad, who has dementia, gets from attending the (free) Senior Citizens "Extra Time" sessions on Wednesday mornings at the Turf. Also the monthly (free) dementia cafe.

BFC in the Community do some great work. Well done to Stanley who are clearly also doing this, and maybe even more relative to their income. Why use their excellence as a stick to, unnecessarily, beat our own club with though ?

Lots of clubs chelsea included have given free travel to supporters travelling to long distance games at ridiculous KO times....eg.Barnet to Hartlepool for a Sunday evening game is a bit much.

Reading gave 1000 tickets for £1 to under 16 you had to but tickets after the game finished on Sat

There should be no families living in poverty in the 21st century.never mind being without a roof over their heads.

Would I be wrong in saying that the community trust is separate from the club though?

I love Stanley and do go, it's only 5 minutes in the car from my house and they do play some nice football. As far as the free tickets for kids go I'm pretty sure they have done that in the past with free kids with an adult or something. My grandaughter has had free tickets through her school as well. They are a fabulous little club and I know where I would be heading for sure if Burnley weren't around. They do struggle being in between the 'big two' locally but slowly that may change, Accrington is big enough for a league club.

Just a thought though - little guy on the news item last night was interviewed and said 'I'm Burnley' but he said that could change now - that might not be a good thing for us, ha ha.

Are you mixing up our community and commercial sides of the club stalbansclaret ?

Just for the record I applaud what the community team do.

I think its possible to applaud what Accy are doing, while simultaneously mentioning the good work that we do as a club as well.

Good gesture by Accrington. Will increase their gates, but they are not a threat to us, or even that lot down the road.
