I remember a thread regarding this but it must of slipped off the forum.
My Mrs just asked me what I want for Xmas, and, as I'm sick of not being able to listen music, due to the kids watching YouTube on the downstairs tv (they all have their own tv's the little sh*ts) I have decided on some over the ear headphones.
Probably looking to spend up to £150
Remember Sennheiser being recommended quite a lot on the last thread, but unsure what model etc I should be looking at.

Over the last 30 or so years I've been a headphones fanatic, usually in that time using over ears alongside in ears. I've had all the brand's in that time from Sony,Grado, Bose,Sennheiser, AKG, Shure,Ultimate Ears. I usually get fed up and strive for something better after around 6 - 9 months as technology moves on at a pace. However the two sets I use now both come from the same company. The company is 1More. I use currently and have done since this time last year, their in ear Hi-Fi certified quad drivers and their over ear Triple driver headphones (I even traded in a pair of Bose for the latter). Superb soundstage and sound quality, the built quality is eye catching and robust and the packaging and add ons (on the quad drivers in ears) is superb.They also come with a unique inline Mic and remote that works for both android and Apple devices should it be required. Both models come in at less than £150 new. For me the best headphones I've ever had

well, I'm afraid not in your budget, I use Spirit Focal Pro headphones which are pretty incredible. Audio Technica 50X are supposed to be good though and should be in your price range

ultimately they are all ****, they either deafen you prematurely, or they break.

I don't need anything earth shattering. Just something that will cancel out the sound of some vlogger playing fortnite, while letting me listen to my music

For me Sennheiser or AKG.
Prefer the expensive AKG for a flat true sound.
Also I always prefer to find pairs with one not two cords for over ear headphones.
AKG are easier to repair also.
That said Sennheiser have a pleasing sound. I just seem to get fed up as I've had several break - and not viable to fix.

As always it's what you are listening to? and what it's played from?

You don't need to spend £150. but if you are into your audio go for AKG.
I also would not order a pair without trying their fit... comfort.

The Bose noise cancelling I found comfy and are great on planes / trains etc but sound too "warm" bass heavy. but they are very very good.
I just prefer my AKG at home.

If you want noise cancelling the AKG N60NC maybe worth a try?

Bose qc25 are available at 129 at the minute. Exact same quality as the qc35 pretty much other than the fact the 35s are wireless but theyre never on offer.

Tried the 35 before and couldnt believe how good they fit and how good the noise cancelling was. But couldnt justify the cost.

Ive got poor hearing as Ive aged and listen to a lot of music so I've become dependent on very good headphones - on the basis that sound needs to be good to start off with then still sounds decent through my poor lugholes.
In the past I've been an big Sennheiser fan but Ive now got Audio Technica ATH A1000z (still got some Sennheiser Momentum in-ears for when I'm out walking though). The ATH 1000z are a fair bit out of your price range but (as per mentioned in a previous post) the M50X model from Audio Technica is good & in your price range.
It sounds like you may need some noise cancelling phones though if you'll be listening in a noisy household. I recently shopped for some such with my daughter and she plumped for Sony ones after listening to quite a lot of sets- found their noise cancelling system to be best & the sound quality good.

It really depends on requirements though- do you want wireless or wired? noise cancelling of not etc. Ideally go to a shop where you can listen to a range.
Avoid the Beats by Dre though - if you want sound quality/value for money rather than poseur value.

AKG N60NC look good. Less than £100 at richer sounds.

Take a couple of CDs one loud (a band) one quite (minimal) with you with a track off each you know like the back of your hand.
Try them first.

Under £100 sounds a bargain (no pun intended)..

I can't recommend specific headphones (I use very expensive Sennheiser HD800) but I think it's very important you try the 'phones before buying.

You need to consider comfort as well as sound, and practicality, plus how it works with your equipment. There are open back, closed back, and noise cancelling types. To avoid deafness don't play headphones very loud!

I adore my Bose QC35s, If you can live with being on a wire the current Amazon deal for the QC25s @ £129 is a very good deal for the same audio, comfort and most importantly noise cancellation.
The Sony equivalent (Sony WH-1000XM2) come a very close 2nd in most comparisons, a little cheaper than the QC35s and have some good features like taping the ear to pause the noise canceling in case you want to listen to something. Most say the Bose are more comfortable over long periods.


Audio-Technica ATH-M50X - Highly regarded by audiophiles as a good value headphone for pure audio quality.
Do shop around and don't be afraid to try ebay (unless you're a really warranty worrier), I just got my partner some Bose for £50 cheaper than the Amazon price.
