Hi. This board is full of wisdom.

Father in law who is 80 brought this over.

How old do we reckon it is?

Maximum possible age is 58 years because post codes weren't around before.

Likely a lot younger.

Unless we're lucky enough to find a Captain Morgan expert could we see the back of the bottle for further clues?

It was just the lack of a captain morgan on the bottle that made me wonder.

Never been into Rum, will you drink it neat or with a mixer.
I like the Single Malt Whiskies, drunk neat obviously.

I’m saying 70’s purely because of the design of the label

Earliest possible date is 1977 as it has a barcode

steve,

there's something printed on the glass of the bottle, out of shot to the right of your second picture. Looks like the mark that was put on the bottle after it left the distillery/factory.

That should give you an accurate date.

The bit that I've ringed in red should tell you what you need to know:

The EAN seems to be on modern products https://www.bestwaywholesale.co.uk/product/88167-6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; so maybe not that old

My after 1970 has been topped by the barcode date. Guyana was founded in 1970.

You'd be better off drinking Washing up liquid. It tastes better than Captain Morgan.

Now if you want a nice rum, I recommend Kraken instead.

22/12/2001 from the barcode.

Would have thought it was older than that as it has 'Seagram Quality' on the label and they were bought out by a number of companies in 2000 (Diageo took Captain Morgan)

This week we are mostly drinking 7-year Ron Abuela, as it was on 'special' @ £5.50/litre in Panama we stowed thirty bottles aboard and should've bought more; any halfway decent rum in French Polynesia is £45/litre an up!
