Guess why he'll be sacked after a poor run of form... it won't be because of results - according to him.

When the inevitable happens who will be first to speak about his sacking

Kick it out 5/4
Lord Ouseley 11/8
Troy Townsend 11/8
Paul Ince 4/1

Macclesfield play at Exeter City tonight but I can't find anywhere if Campbell will take charge, all it says on the Macc website is that he will be unveiled this Thursday.

I have now become solcampbellsmaccclaret.

Strange appointment, given that the uninterested chairman was upfront about not spending any money when they got promoted.

From Macclesfield's Sol Campbell's point of view, he can't fail. He can leave with no stain on his "reputation" when the apparently inevitable relegation happens.

Paul Ince did a great job at Macclesfield some years ago.

Surprised to see “but i am Sol Campbell” go to a team that low down.

Very different set up at Macc when they had Ince and McIlroy.

Tough job now, even for Sol.

They're losing players to non-league now for an extra £20 a week and also because they only pay during the season. In those circumstances you need good connections in the non-league to find the right players. I suspect Sol won't count "money in the boot" players in his social circle.

I strongly suspect he'll be gone within 120 days, using some or all of the following phrases, " Impossible job " , " unrealistic expectations ", " hands tied behind my back ", " unable to sign players due to budget limitations ", " no backing ", " had no support from the Board " ... etc

Seems like he has chip on his shoulder, quite possibly the world's largest.
Does himself no favours, shame really as it would be interesting to see how well he does without all the negative crap he spouts.

Wasn't even top 10

That doesn't mean he wasn't a good player, just happened to be around when some of the greatest defenders were.

I know this is all opinion, but for me he was undoubtably one of the best central defenders in the world at the peak of his powers.

Pretty sure he was named in the teams of the tournaments at both World Cup 2002 and then the following Euro’s in 2004.

I’d be very surprised if you could easily name 10 central defenders who were better than him during that particular period!

Not sure how he will fair as a coach/manager though - but good luck to him!

he was a top drawer centre half, no doubt about it all.

i remember him playing left back for spurs on the turf, proper gangly lad he was. quite surprising the transformation he made into a right solid big dog.

Between 1998 and 2004 he was easily one of the best defenders in the world.

I'll stand by my not in the top 10 comment.
Certainly not top 10 defenders because you're opening the options up far to wide and I could easily pick any 10 defenders that were better than him during that era.

I'd probably struggle to place him top 10 centre backs too.

We will just have to disagree.

Hope he does well as a coach tbh
He wasn't in the uefa team of the year at all from what I can see, Terry was though.

In an era of Cafu, R Carlos, Maldini, Nesta, Rio, Terry, Desailly, Leboeuf, Cannavaro, Blanc is easy to see why he may not be top 10.

He was a much better player than Terry in my opinion. Not many centre halves can combine pace and power the way Campbell did. Would certainly be in my top 5 from that era along with Maldini, Cannavaro, Nests.

Wether he was one of the best or not. It was a stupid thing to say. Not only bottom but now a scalp that teams will want more. A kinda “Welcome to our level Sol, not so easy eh?!”

Well Cafu and Carlos arent centre halves. Between 98 and 2006 he was definitely better than Terry and Probably Rio. And definitely better than Lebeouf.

Canavarro was class but his best years were around 2004 onwards. Nesta was world class but more fragile than Ledley King. Which leaves Desailly who I agree was easily one of the best in the world, Maldini even better and Blanc who was in the twighlight of his career when Campbell was at his peak.
