Your team for Liverpool....

..... And why?

Literally not expected anything out of the game; May as well experiment to see what we're looking like with a different system.

----------------Hart
Lowton-Long-Gibson-Taylor
----------------Westy
-------Defour------Hendrick
----JBG--------------------Barnes
-----------------Vokes

Hart because he's been our best player this season and stopped games turning into a rugby score.

Long and Gibson because Gibbo deserves a chance, Long done nothing wrong also.

Westy Sitting infront of the CBSs, focusing on breaking up play and keeping our tempo high.. Allowing the CBs to spread a little and allow the fullbacks to push on.

Defour playing relatively deep but can step into the attack when needed.

Hendrick playing box to box for his engine and to pick up second balls off Barnes/Vokes.

Barnes and JBG playing as 'inside forwards' so Sam isn't isolated on his own. with Barnes being a good outlet, would be able to dominate Trent aerially.

Vokes because hes the only one that looks like scoring at the minute and can at least win a 50-50.

Plan B would to bring on Vydra with plenty of time remaining. I.e not in the 83rd minute. I think Hendrick needs to play in his natural position. Out of our central midfielders, he is the most energetic and dynamic but has suffered massively being played out of position. Ideally I would like us to play 4-4-1-1 but I can't see how Defour fits in that system.

3 at the back never going to happen under Dyche. However, I don't see what harm trying something different can do, particularly in a game we're expected to lose. Our confidence is already is low so maybe we need a change. It would allow us to still pack the midfield and JBG and Brady (if fit) would have to work hard to provide cover. Vydra needs a run of games and Barnes brings us some physicality.

Personally I would completely change it wednesday.

I would go 3 at the back. Liverpool will have 3 up top and now is as good a time as ever to try that system. Its frightening to think what Mane, Salah and Firminho could do to our flat back 4. At least we could try man for man. Also Gibson certainly needs his chance. Its painfuly predictable how we line up.

This would also allow us to pack the midfield AND play two up top.

Our record with Taylor is very poor. And he has failed to impress in most games. Lowton is also woefuly out of form. So we lose nothing by sacrificing them.

Hart
Tarkowski Mee Gibson
Lennon Hendrick Defour Cork JBG
Vydra Vokes

Looks as good a lineup I can think.

I’d give that a go, maybe vokes for Barnes. Seen a few people say 3 at the back is the way to go and I agree.

My concern for 3 at the back vs Liverpool is as simple as watching the UCL semi final against Roma.

The space given up by Roma's wingbacks bombing on gave Salah & Mane so much space they absolutely carved them open!

Don't worry, hell will freeze over before one of our wide players is bombing on

Yeah that’s fair enough. For me I think Sam really performs well with a quicker player to support him E.G ings or gray and that’s why I’d just pick him over Barnes apart from that completely agree with you.

Won't happen but there's a lot of merit in this line up and we are at the point where something radical needs to be tried.

There could be an option of playing Lowton instead of Lennon to give us more protection and flexibity with our formation.

Yep considered lowton. But tbh lennon has been better and does tuck in well. A dyche nessecity.

3-5-2 could very well work for us and it would seem to fit with the strengths of some of our players, on paper at least. Sadly those calling for it are p1ssing in the wind as we know very well the manager will not try such a system.

For what its worth, this would be my line-up

Hart
Long Tarkowski Gibson
Lowton Hendrick Cork Defour Brady
JBG Vokes

Cork would only keep his place for a lack of a credible alternative, as Westwood and Defour (try to) do the same job.

It would end up a back 5 and we'd have one less in midfield.

Probably lose by 6 or 7.

Can see the merits of 3 (or 5) at the back. IF this was to happen you are crazy to think that SD will play wingers as the wide players. He would definteily play full backs! Any back 5 would consist of Lowton, Tarkowski, Gibson, Mee and Taylor, for example.

Barnes up top on his own , with JBG and Vydra supporting. No point having Vydra if we don’t use him. I’d keep Lowton in as a wing back to give us a bit of balance. Hendrick would give us energy in the Center alongside Defour. Gibson needs his chance and I can’t understand why Barnes hasn’t started much this season he would be the first man on teamsheet for me to bring some much needed passion back.

Taylor could be used from the bench to replace Brady , Cork needs dropping as he’s been shambolic. The system could be change to 2 forwards and 1 number 10 depending on the lineup.

Too much swapping and changing hasn't helped matters this season but I'd bring Tarky back and leave Brady in. We must stick with Hendrick in there and one striker who has to be Wood or possibly Barnes. The only regular I would really consider dropping is Cork, but I'd leave him in for now to see if the team can settle down without too many changes.

Not sure it would. First of all, I'm a big believer in playing your best players when they are fit regardless. Secondly, you could put a strong case in that he was heavily to blame for the opening goal yesterday. He should have attacked the cross and put it out for a corner.

Also worth noting at this point that we paid £15m for an excellent defender and leader in the summer. He can't sit on the bench forever and now might just be a good time for a fresh face in that defence.

Would anyone be for Ben Mee at left back just for more defensive solofarity?

Yes his distribution is **** poor but Taylor is imo one of the worst left backs in the league

I said on another thread. If we persist with 4 at the back it may be worth looking at going full Pulis mode and putting Mee or Gibson there. Just being ugly, physical and defensive.

Absolutely. And it would probably inadvertently lead to us playing a back 5 when Mee tucks in. We know he doesn't carry the ball as well as Taylor or Ward but we would hopefully be more solid.

I'm deeply dubious about this, and I can see all sorts of reasons not to do it, but I think I'd go with this team. It's tough on Vokes, and it's tough on Taylor, but Barnes is our best striker at coping in splendid isolation, and whoever is up front on Wednesday is going to be isolated.

We've got to get Tarks back into the team if he's fit, and Long has done well in the last couple of games, and by playing Mee at left back (against a Liverpool team who don't really play with a right winger), we allow ourselves to go a bit Tony Pulis and get 3 centre backs into the team who in turn become real threats at set plays.

I thought about playing Tarks as a holding midfielder - which he's done before for us, infrequently, but in truth there are times to experiment, and home to a resurgent Liverpool team is not one of them.

Hart - only consistently decent player in the team.

Definitely consider Mee at LB to solid things up and create space for Gibson with Tarkowski to return - with that in mind Lowton keeps his place but he's been poor most of the season - a new RB should be on the January shopping list.

Assuming neither Lennon nor Brady will be fit so Barnes on the left, JGB on the right - Hendrick as a genuine CM, Defour and Westood in the middle - Vokes up front.

If Vydra is fit and well he has to be on the bench.

Regardless of the likely result there has to be changes.

Truth is we will probably get ragged no matter what the line up is.

Hopefully if he does decide to change things up people/Dyche won’t just the effectiveness of the changes based on the result against one of the finest teams in the league.

We started with that system with Hendrick in the back to back hammerings by chelsea and liverpool. Nothing to suggest it would be any better against liverpool.

I think Hendrivk has been hung out to dry. Amd i would play him. But not with wood as a loan striker.

Liverpool have had two very hard games so are very likely to make changes.
Go and attack them and see where it gets us, even if the extra attacking gets fans back on side it will be worth it.

The most athletic team we've got to be honest.

Depending on fitness, I'd be very tempted to play Gibson and Long as well

I'd have to reluctantly drop Cork for Westwood and I'd stick with the 4-5-1 with Vokes up front.
