I was told a few weeks ago that Burnley were getting a young Italian heritage kid from Accy as he was simply to good for them.
I presume this is him and we don't like paying fees for youngsters so City have snapped him up.

It was just the way I was told he was coming here that the agent needed to get him to a bigger club like Burnley. I didn't think we would have to pay a fee for a 10yr old as they had no contract. I'm obviously wrong.
I expect the family would prefer City as they are ST holders there by the article. They might become free now.

Wonder how much cash there was in the City brown envelope as well... that's the way the likes of Chelsea operate...

Makes sense for the kid to want to play at a team that is both geographically closer to where he lives and he supports the team.

Either way its completely unethical and immoral.
It would be immoral to me if clubs didn't donate anything to clubs for their best youngsters. If the shoe was on the other foot we would want compensating! Grass roots football isn't cheap to run!

He won't become a regular for City, that's the last we will hear of him.
If Accy have got some money out of it then well done to them.

Heard of City signing lads as young as 7 then families moving to Manchester to go to schools nearer their training ground only to be released a few years later. At that age they should be just playing and enjoying the game.
Love to know how many of these ‘highly rated’kids at this age actually make it as a professional.

It's an incredibly small percentage that make it.
It's even harder due to foreign kids being classed as 'homegrown', like Fabregas.

I think the fee is set at £9000 for u10 maybe higher for u11 this is a set league statute .Though benefits can include schooling etc . Usually these youngster signings are the parents putting it out there . Anyone remember a 8yo Aussie kid about 10-12 yrs ago signing for Man Utd on the back of a couple of vids , he was released at 16 ( he was in rashfords yr though MR played up a yr most of the time ) city and Man Utd both have “ nurseries “ from about 5yo . Last yr utd had 34 u10’s and 8 had contracts the rest simply “ roll” it’s a sausage factory for sure

A mate of mines kid got “dropped” by Everton and then didn’t want to play football again for a while as he was fed up with it.
He was 6 when released ....
A woman who works with my missus has a son who was playing/training with 3 or 4 clubs at the same time until United signed him and he has season tickets for him and his dad next to the dugouts at Old Trafford now..... I think he’s 9/10 years old.

The kids interviewed on accys website. And already sounds like a sky sports news scripted response. Its absolutely perverse.
Kids should be permitted to be kids. And play for the school team. But theyre treat like pedigree bloodline horses. Only to be discarded like unsuccesful greyhounds when they get to 16. With very little support or guidance especially where moneys involved. Just look at Green who we had from Everton.
Its sick. And I'd hate to be a parent in that system.
Kids grow up too quick as it is.

My lads 10 and plays Saturday and Sunday,we've been told there are scouts at every tournament and Sunday game. Some of the lads getting picked by clubs are clearly not good enough for professional clubs and you see them playing for their old clubs the next season and they look completely disillusioned. I think its 'normally the parents that get over excited .
A city scout came to one of the Saturday training sesions and had no interest in the older kids he said all the decent ones would of been picked up, he only wanted to see the 3 and 4 year olds.
Bit scary and extremely cynical, not bothered about the kids at all.

Yep, parents get star struck, as soon as City or United invite a kid over, there's no way they're saying no. They even take kids from South Yorkshire.
You wonder if someone like Jamie Vardy would have had the career he's had if he'd been stuck in an academy playing kids football only to get released at 20/21 with no experience, rather than playing 'proper' football from the start in non league around Sheffield and then the lower professional leagues.

Ben Mee
Keiran Trippier
Both came through the Citeh Academy, and we benefitted from that (in Englands case the best English Right Back in at least a generation)...
It does work but.... there are a lot of very talented lads ruined by it too, who would have been better served coming through the ranks at lower league clubs like Jamie Vardy (as NottsClaret pointed out)

My lad got scouted and invited to train at City at the age of 14. It was an amazing experience for him, playing at their out of this world facilities. The coaches were fantastic and he enjoyed his 6 or 7 months there. I always told him it was just extra training and never, ever implied to him he would be stopping. That way he benefited from being there instead of thinking he'd made it. Funnily enough we chose to leave City as Blackburn wanted him and we thought there was a better chance of getting a scholarship there. He spent 8 months there but got released. That was pretty tough as he was then 15 so was hoping of stopping there (although it was tough watching him play in Blue and White; I even heard him shout "Come on Blackburn" a few times!!

). Again, he enjoyed it and learnt a lot so was a good part of his development. After a brief trial with Bury he ended up at Fylde for his scholarship, which he is now in his second year. I feel his involvement at City, Blackburn and Bury all helped him strengthen mentally and I'm glad he got the chances.
I suppose it is down to what you expect out of these clubs. Don't let them get carried away as, mentioned above, once released, many players leave football altogether. I was pleased my lad got to play grassroots from the age of 4 - he loved it! I do think some kids throw it away too soon which is quite sad really.
Anyway, apologies for the essay, I was just sharing our experience with the pro clubs

You only have to look at Macauley Culkin, michael jackson and Lauren Harries for three examples of how that perverse industry ***** kids up.

True, fame can **** kids up. But, so can sugar. And let's not pretend that it ***** up all the kids, or even most of them. Otherwise i'll start depressing you with a list of all the great actors and artists the world lost after they achieved success as an adult.
This kid is going to get a better chance at a life most of us can only dream about as a result of this deal. A better chance at it than without this deal. A lot of money is going to be spent to make sure he isn't ****** up by it because there's a lot of money to be made by him NOT being ****** up by it. This isn't remotely the same as Macauley Culkin where everyone was likely trying to exploit his success as a child star which no doubt played a part in ******* him up. But this kid isn't a child star, and there's no wealth to be exploited until he's an actual star, and that can't happen in the Youth ranks. And if/when it does eventually happen, then his club will spend a fortune protecting him because his well-being is worth a fortune to them.
I understand the impulse to think that this kind of thing is scary, but it's really not the same as in other celebrity industries where success is much more short-term.
If this kid gets ****** up despite all the money being spent to make sure he doesn't get ****** up, then he was going to get ****** up anyway.
