A few posts on this subject recently. And saw a video earlier suggesting that bettings taking away the love of the game. Do you agree?

Not only is it just the shop in the street its now literally everywhere. From shirts. To adverts. To competiton sponsors. To stand and stadium sponsors. Its almost religion now for young lads to have a coupon on.

Betting per se I dont think is an issue. But the number of games that are on now it makes it much easier to bet. And you can do it 24 7 from anywhere. You dont have to leave your sofa.

So its hard not to bet on a match as you can feel you have to do it and it ruins it. But it also ruins a match you do bet on because you are watching it hoping for a set outcome.

I bet an affordable amount on most games i go to as a bit of fun. But taking last night as an example it ruins the game. I had us to win 2-1 and when it gets to 1-0 and 1-1 you are completely pre occupied with that coming in, what your cash out might be, if you have Barnes on first goal you actually want wood to fluff his lines etc

Should more be dome to limit what you can gamble?

Villa play west brom in the championship. Oddschecker is offering bets and incentives with 25 online bookies for a championship fixture. And 100s of markets for that game. Betting on cards. Throw ins. Even times of goals.

That cant be right?

There's always the Horses if you don't fancy the football.

Gambling adverts is one thing I'd completely ban from TV. Along with loans, insurance, funerals, bingo etc.

The funeral ones make me laugh all cheerful folk discussing their deaths and looking forward to a free pen!!

Supposed to have been a self imposed agreement from the main bookies today not to broadcast adverts for a set time around games on TV

There should be no betting ads allowed on TV before the 9pm watershed.

A friend over here is paid to attend games, even down to the u19 teams of Czech 3rd and 4th tier clubs, where the changing rooms are literally a portakabin, so that he can report live providing data which is used to allow betting firms to offer "in-play" betting.

I make no bones about telling him that it is morally reprehensible but his argument is if it wasnt him it would be someone else

If punters gambled just "what they could afford" betting companies would not have been spending millions of £'s on advertising. Betting companies realise that the vast majority of regular punters will ignore any warnings to "gamble responsibly" and are therefore quite happy to incorporate the tag line in advertisements.

Golden rule - never bet on Burnley. As the OP says, it spoils the game; and it often means you at least partly want the other team to score.

£5 burnley lose £5 draw. If you lose you pay a tenner for 3 points!!

Same game multiple bets are decent interest bets for televised or games you are going to.

Last night I backed over 2.5 goals, over 9 corners and under 3 yellow cards. You can add as many as want, with paddy power you get your stake back if you get 3/4

Moot point but that would have been a couple of years after the 4th division.
I could probably guarantee nobody put a bet on a Philliskirk hat-trick that day given his form for us though.

I tried to cash out my 2-1 bet before firminhos shot crossed the line. Bet365 knew it had gone in at a game that wasnt on tv that i was live at right behind said goal ffs.

As for the second part. I was once offered a very highly rewarding opportunity promoting a certain gambling company as an affiliate. Turned it down. Primarily because you made your money every time someone you signed up lost.

I know a few people who did do it and have done incredibly well from it. As in stupid money. But its not for me that.

They say the same. Someone else will do it. But im comfortable with that.

Tim Noone once bet on England to draw 0-0 with scotland. They did. Bit he spent the entire 90 minutes (when everyone was an england fan) wanting it to be 0-0.

Similarly as you say. Last night when we scored part of me wanted them to score.
