Hull came in at number seven despite also winning the capital of culture prize, Accrington number eight, and at joint ninth, Bristol and Blackburn.
Huddersfield top the charts.

I don't know who comes up with these lists but they need to get a life. The towns on it are almost invariably in the North so I suppose it's a southerner who just believes all the crap about the north. I know a guy who lives near Milton Keynes and he thinks it's the ass end of nowhere.
I've not read the article but I'd like to know where Rochdale is placed. I've worked at a couple of places there and with 'Rochdalians' and that really is a desperate place.

Why would Bristol be on the list? It's not a bad city at all.

This anti northern bias is annoying.
I am working in Southampton at the moment. A place with no redeeming features.

Rochdale was ranked 4th worst, a bit harsh.
Iconic town hall, Hollingworth Lake, Springfield Park, Healey Dell, the Baum pub, decent football and rugby league teams, Littleboro cricket club amongst its treasures.

Clutching a bit there, it’s like saying Burnley has Pendle Hill etc
I’ve worked in Rochdale and it’s struggling, I was shocked

Rochdale - the road to Turf Moor via idyllic Bacup is surely an attraction!

When the best thing about a town is the road out, it's usually a sign that the town is pretty crap.

There is s common theme with many of the towns in that list but I'm not sure Bristol belongs in there. The people replying don't seem very intelligent so it's s bit suspect really. Poverty causes tatty town centres and I can see why the likes of Rotherham appear in that list. Billingham and Shadwell should be up there. Not uplifting places.

A lot of these sites are written in a way as to be humourous... so take some of it as a tad tongue in cheek.
Having worked as a Locksmith in places across the North from Lancaster and Kendal down to Preston across Blackburn, Burnley, Todmorden, Halifax, Bradford, Leeds, Harrogate and all points in between.
I can truthfully say that there are parts of Harrogate you would not wish to venture into after dark without a lump of 3 x 2 in your hand.
There are awful areas in nearly every large town .... where the sc*m of the earth reside .... and Harrogate has some of the worst.....

I'm sure the nice parts of Harrogate far outweigh the worst (I'll be honest, I didn't know Harrogate had any rough parts). I think these treat a town/ city as a whole. For example Leeds has plenty of areas which are barely more than slums but there's enough affluent areas and thriving city centre to be considered desirable on the whole.

Some of the worst towns I've seen are in Greece and Cyprus. Guns blatantly on show, don't go out at night, Taxi drivers who will rob you blind, literally. Maybe the reporter needs to look closer at her roots.
