QUESTION: If he was quicker could he have had a good career at the very top ? My answer is YES

I think he had the ability to be a top international player, if his physical attributes were to the same level.

His ability to use either foot, his finishing, set pieces and skill were way beyond the Championship.

I started going on in 87 and he is easily the best Burnley player I've ever seen

Unplayable at times

My recollection of Robbie when he was at Bradford was that he did have pace in addition to all the skill we came to know.

He wanted away to Blackburn and when he did not get the move his career suffered for a couple of years. It also co-incided with him beginning to pick up injuries. He seemed to come back from injuries a little chunkier than when he was young and gradually lost his pace....but not his skill.

I think it was a combination of his injuries, slowing down and also some of his off field stuff which meant he never went to a top club. From a Burnley fan point of view we benefited from this as we got to see a lot more of him in a Burnley shirt and on his day he could make a mug of the best defenders. His goal against Man United is up there with my favourites - the atmosphere was one of the best I have ever experienced at Turf Moor and the technique and quality of the strike was fitting for a player of Robbie`s quality.....it was worthy of a nod of appreciation from legends like Scholes, Giggs and Rooney on the other side !

Just for interest, Robbie's 11 career goals in the Premier league were scored for 4 teams with one obvious thing in common. What were the four teams?

Without doubt my favourite player ever, some say not the best Clarets player ever, but in my time going to the Turf hes the best. He is still my sons hero too.

Got you on the edge of your seat and had some magic. Had the skill but not the pace. He also was a character at a time when you could still just about relate to players as a fan. The goal against Man Utd and being in the Cricket Field end will live long in the memory.

Good player and up there with our best in recent times but far from a great one in the grand scheme of football.

Apart from when he had his "diving boots" on.

With more of a ‘footballer’s physique’ and a bit of pace, I genuinely think that he would have been an England and Premier League great.

His technical ability and vision was way beyond his physical capability, but he was still a fantastic player.

I’ve been going since the early eighties and no one else comes close in that time, for me.

It says a lot about Robbie and his ability that we still talk so fondly about a player who in reality could never quite cut it at the level we are now at.

Not quite sure what it says about our current crop of players or perhaps the style of play, either.

Rumour has it that he won A LOT of money betting on himself to score first and Burnley to win that night.

My favourite ever player for Burnley too, always got me on the edge of my seat.
If only he was still playing, we're desperate for a player like him, that creative spark and goal threat.
