Amount of Non-Burnley fans in the away end yesterday

Post by TB1882 » Sun Dec 23, 2018 11:19 pm

Unusually large amount of fans in our end yesterday who seemed to have no connection with the club at all. A lot of people who seemed more interested with taking photos of the ground and videoing the arsenal fans celebrating the goals.
1) why they in our end if they are tourists
2) how are they managing to get tickets

How did they "seem" to have no connection to the club? Though to be fair I did see 3 celebrating an arsenal goal on motd... I did attend btw.

Yeah there were quite a lot of tourist types in and around us.

Frustrating as there were not that many away fans and they were spread out to make way for the tourists, some even had Arsenal scarves on.

Did anyone see the chubby Arsenal lad who was giving it the big licks for the first 60 minutes or so? Was funny as hell when the Stewards were escorting him out of the ground, although seemed like a bit of an over-reaction by the ground security to me.

Taking selfies when Arsenal scored was a bit of a clue. There were plenty around where I was.

Aaah indeed I took a few pictures myself.. What's a touristy type look like though how would you define one?

Yup. Saw this too. It’s no big deal nowadays if we don’t fill our allocation. A bit like Fulham’s neutral section. As long as everyone’s sensible. If they buy the last pie in our end that’s a different matter.

They'd be welcome to the pies at Turf moor.

Why buy tickets in the away section when plenty of empty seats in the home ends ?

A lot cheaper in the away end. There were plenty the last time I went there in the cup.

As Arsenal were celebrating their goal? A bit strange from a Burnley fan but each to their own. Admittedly some celebrated Burnley scoring as well as Arsenal. Celebrating when either team scores suggests touristy type to me, as does spending more time taking videos/photos than watching the match.

30 quid cap? Better atmosphere? Less queues for a twix?

Football tourism is huge now. And with good reason

Dont see the issue. Especially when we dont sell out ourselves...

"Unusually large amount of fans ........"

Unusually large number of fans, surely. Fans are individuals not an amorphous blob.

That Vizeh chap seems to spend more time taking videos than watching the match. Maybe they were all you tubers.

Plenty of neutrals in the JHU Block 7. Tickets are given out by Twitter, TalkSport etc in the hundreds.

A Polish former work colleague from S Lincs 'won' 10 tickets for Burnley v Chelsea last season.

I imagine the experience is not always 100% enjoyable for the tourists, or at least doesn’t match expectations in terms of atmosphere

When Man Utd scored at Cardiff the camera panned straight to Ole Gunnar and their was around 3 kids right behind celebrating.
Now these looked good seats that ST holders normally keep hold of on the halfway line and Cardiff hate Man U with a passion. I was a little surprised.
I don't mind it to be honest. It's a lot better than the behaviour of some only 3ft apart in the CF stand with that safety fence and stewards/police to protect them.

Would that be the one I’ve seen described by someone else attending as “a fat North London spiv”

I was in the away end and took some photos. I'm a clarets fan from Australia who hasn't seen them play since a 1-0 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road about 15 to 20 years ago. Not everyone who is taking pictures isn't a fan.

A lot of fans had arsenal shirts on in the concourse before the game and in the away end. Can 100% see their logic either paying £26 or pay a tout £100.

Quite a few foreign fans watch us these days at Turf Moor.

We have quite a big bunch of Norwegians who come over quite regularly for matches, some of them have been coming quite a while. I was talking to 7/8 of them in the Coach and Horses after the Liverpool match.. they always have a few drinks in the Roggerham Gate as well. Three months ago 3 Swiss lads stopped me near the culvert to ask where Tesco’s was, they wanted to buy some cans.
Last season I saw about 20 people, mainly kids, in the club shop, they were from Sri Lanka - they looked like they were trying to buy up the entire stock of shirts towels mugs the lot.

Personally I don’t care where they come from as long as they are supporting us.

Easy to get tickets. Home stands sold out, away club put theirs on general sale so open to anyone.

There were some lads sat on our row wearing Arsenal scarves and they seemed to enjoy three of the four goals.

I was talking to a guy, his wife and their 2 young kids who were over from Namibia and wanted to catch a Premier League game before they flew home yesterday. No connection to Burnley or Arsenal but he said they were going to support Burnley in future :)

Imagine no pictures of fans enjoying a football match or getting caught up in everything relating to a game.... The whole shebang. No I can't either!
