Still a bit of a concern that like against Everton they had a chance from a cross into the box.

It was Chris Wood who was supposed to be marking him, his defending is useless at best, Dyche has berated him several times for poor effort so why not leave him up front for the outball at least he would be occupying two defenders.

True and it was arguably poor communication between Heaton and Tarkowski that saw us needlessly give the corner away.
However, that was early doors and we gave up very few chances after that.

I think over the course of 90 minutes, you can expect one corner to result in a header on goal.
Our defence won pretty much everything from that point onwards, Mee and Tarky were back to what we expect of them IMO.

Are you concerned for the West Ham defence who let Ben Mee have a free header from a corner in the first half?
Oh and let us run through them at will?

The only difference between Hart and Heaton is that Heaton constantly shouts instructions to the players.
It looks like we are zoneal marking, we certainly are not man marking for set pieces. We got away with the corner the lad should have scored. That would have changed the course of the game our confidence would have taken a knock and they would have pressed for a 2nd, then all you lot would be saying Heaton is no better than Hart

Unbelievable that posters can find something to pull up on playing like we did in that game yesterday
They were on a roll before they played us to allow them one real chance speaks volumes of each and everyone of them we played excellently

That's a lot of foresight you have there.
If the only difference between Heaton and Hart is that Heaton organises his defence, does that not by definition mean that he is a better goalkeeper?

I don't know where you get the idea from that we were zonal marking for that corner when that clearly wasn't the case. The rest of it is all ifs and buts.

Yes he does and that is the reason he is our captain.
I don't like it when fans get on players back and was trying to defend Joe. Hart has had a lot to put up with this season playing behind that defence. If Heaton had have been in Harts position the fans would have been calling for Pope, you can guarantee it

On the corner wasn't it a clearance that Tarks leathered out only to be deflected back off one of their players and then Tarks had to correct his footing to put it out for the corner
So all in all they where lucky they had that set peice realy

I want in attendance, but I imagine it was like having that noisy peacock back in the ground.

Sam Vokes is our best defender at corners.

Fine margins - that free header goes in and we're stuffed. It doesn't and we kick on for a damn good win.

That was the key thing really yesterday. It almost seemed like fate.
Week after week we've given the opposition free-headers / shots and they've generally buried them giving Hart simply no chance.
Same happens yesterday and Heaton has conceded one - through no fault of his own - in the first few minutes. Instead it's an unbelievably tame header and it goes straight at Heaton. Heaton's return yesterday was certainly significant but you have to feel for Hart, he didn't seem to get those sort of lucky breaks.

I agree , with the exception of our central defenders.
The corner and hence free header came from a hurried clearance by JT , as did the Everton first goal and as did another needless corner given towards the end of the game. These are minor points but if a goal results from one of these it goes from annoying to infuriating.
To put into context , I am over the moon with that performance yesterday - by far our best of the season so far, we just need to replicate it consistently.

Yes it was a big chance and not great defending but it was the only chance they had in the first half - infact they hardly got in our half. It was the most dominant half we have had this year by some distance - even more than Bournemouth where the final score flattered us.
In most games this year we have had made few chances - even where we have got a result. Yesterday was the opposite - we made loads of clear cut chances and ripped their defence apart several times.
It also proved that the top teams would score 5 or 6 in a game like that because they have world class finishers whereas teams like Burnley (and a number of other teams) end up getting only one or two goals.
I was beginning to think we would not see us “thrash” a team in this division like that again !

Sky put up stats in the Man Utd game showing that Burnley had conceded 7 goals from corners, the worst in the league, no surprise there then. Likewise goals conceded after 90 minutes.

I've definitely started to get very jittery when we concede corners these days as they frequently result in chances. There was a time when it really didn't bother me as we were very solid and i actually think Pope's positivity and catching had a lot to do with that. I'm not the only one to notice that when he's on the field Sam Vokes clears loads of corners with his head.

Yeah we got a bit lucky there. But with a bit more luck we would already have been 1-0 up as Ash would have finished his chance earlier.
Swings and roundabouts.
