Aiden O’Neill

An update on our forgotten midfielder...

Aiden O,Neill, currently on loan at the Central Coast Mariners in the Australian A League (they play at a curious three sided stadium in Gosford, a few hours north of Sydney) scored a goal, and was given a yellow card, in the CCM match against Sydney City yesterday.

Sadly for Aiden the Mariners lost 5-2, admittedly to some incredible goals whilst reduced to ten men, in what has been a difficult season for his team.

I can’t quite remember the game but didn’t he start away at Chelsea in 2016 before impressing on loan at .... Fleetwood? What would he have been then, 18 years old?

What price him establishing himself in the way Dwight McNeil has done in recent weeks. It would be like a new signing!

From what I’ve heard, it’s unlikely that O’Neil will be returning to Burnley and wants to pursue are career over there when his contracts runs out.

Didn’t he move ‘home’ due to family circumstances in the first place?

Would be great for him to make it but I suspect as he isn’t pulling up any trees in A League it won’t be initially at the EPL level as it known over here.

I'd rest him today and make sure he's fit and raring to go for the Fulham game

He looked a good player when he came in. At Chelsea away he looked confident and calm on the ball with good vision and touch. Really expected him to push on with us.

Shame. But we should also remember this, Agyei, Howieson and co with our expectations with McNeil.

Let's hope the loan is beneficial to both us and him.

He could be in our squad next season but not in the 25 as he is still only 20

Howieson was way over here if I remember rightly and didn't the club get some stick for not playing someone who didn't appear to be that bothered about club football?
