Michael 'Kit' Carson was due in court this morning in Peterborough on 12 counts of indecent assault and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The offences were alleged to have happened between 1978, when Carson was 35, and 2009. He was academy director at Peterborough and also worked at Norwich and Cambridge.

16 minutes before the trial was due to begin, he was killed in a car crash. No other vehicle was involved.

In the absence of a trial, no one will now know the truth, which is unfortunate for everyone involved.

Don't know the details, but the plus side might be that no-one now has to give evidence and recall horrific events of the past.

So is it generally being assumed that he f**ked it into a wall/tree? I'd take that as a guilty plea tbh if so?

Well he had pleaded not guilty, so I assume that would have been the case. Still, cowards way out, if deliberate.

Does anyone ever plead guilty at a committal hearing? A suspect would surely give the police time to lose the evidence or decide not to prosecute, before pleading guilty at the trial if it gets that far.

I'd imagine that, regardless of any guilt, the stress of an impending court case when it will basically be one word against the other, and with very high stakes involved, could push someone to the point they just cannot face it.

In many respects I'd imagine it would be much more stressful for someone who knows he's innocent, but who also knows that he cannot prove it. An innocent man must feel he has much more to lose than one who knows he's guilty.

Then again, there could have been dark forces at work who didn't wish this trial to happen.

Jeremy Benson QC, prosecuting, informed the court Carson had died after a car crash at about 9.45am on Monday – 15 minutes before the case was listed to begin.

I really hate Nonces of all grades. The horror stories of the convictions and the fact that most only come out when the kids are grown up and realise the wrong is chilling.

They really do need to forget civil rights on this one and start chemical castration at the first sign of trouble. One indecent image found - castrate

I used to work with a bloke who was arrested for child porn offences. I can’t remember the exact details but he was innocent and he was wrongly implicated. Should he have been chemically castrated at the “first sign of trouble”?

When you see the reports about hundreds if not thousands of priests being involved in child abuse then it's fair to assume there is a massive cover up in such places as Westminster, especially as it's been a male dominated environment.
