Has anybody ever wanted Rovers to win?

This week my lovely next door neighbour sadly lost his life. He was a season ticket holder at Eewood and we regularly had long conversations about football. He loved his team as much as I love the Clarets and yesterday I found myself wanting Rovers to win for him.

Yes. The other week when they were at Leeds. Lots of Yorkshire Clarets would be with me on that.

Not really...
But then again, the only time I really hate Rovers is when one of there No-Dad supporters gives me stick for following the Mighty Clarets

I don’t hate them because I am a southerner now living in Ireland so haven’t lived with the local rivalry but love it that at the present we have thee upper hand over them for the Clarets who do live with the rivalry
But I certainly don’t hate Rovers

there must have been occasions where a Rovers win would help our situation, whether it be going for promotion or escaping relegation.

Only should them winning be of some importance to us, other than that the answer is no. I don't hate them though, don't understand that, and I find it very tedious when one of them former players is booed virtually every time he touches the ball playing against us.

But I can't think, in general circumstances, of a team I would want them to beat.

It's called pantomime.

I’d prefer them to get promoted over must over teams in that league tbh.

Never understand the silly hatred between some fans. It really is sad and pathetic.

When Middlesbrough went to Ewood on a Tuesday night spouting they would catch us with their games in hand
then Rovers beat them :-)

Never. If a bstards win either kept us up or got us up I would then, howeve I doubt they would put the effort in as I hope Burnley wouldn't if the situation were reversed.

Not unless the result meant something to us. I am a pragmatist, after all.

My usual position is that they could be playing the Osama Bin Laden Celebrity 11, with Saddam Hussein up front, Jeffrey Dahmer in the nets, and a team studded with luminaries like Harold Shipman, Peter Sutcliffe, Jimmy Saville, and Jeremy Clarkson, and I would still want them to lose.

Thing is, my next door neighbour was such a lovely bloke and he was chuffed for me when the Clarets got promoted. I usually do a little fist pump when Rovers lose but I really wanted them to win yesterday.

I only ever follow 1 team really never pay much attention to there results or anyone else’s for that matter. As others have said I don’t really get the hatred towards them that some show. In you circumstance BFC I think it is wholly appropriate and goes beyond Football rivalries so I applaud you did they win by the way? I know they were winning 0-2 at 1 point but don’t actually know the result if they did I am also glad for your neighbor.

If we cannot do it then I would like one of our local teams to do it. So Blackpool in 53 and getting into the Prem League in 2010 PNE in 54 and ?65, Rover in 60 and chuffed when they beat Utd to the Premier League title and won the Milk Cup. Stanley last season. But when it is them and us it is never them always us. When Rovers play any of our local teams including Bolton-then I like them to lose.

You could perhaps ask the same question about Leeds United. When the two met this season I'd have reluctantly settled for a draw.

Rarely. Although I dislike them less than Preston and probably even Man Utd, Leeds and Liverpool.

That said I would rather beat Blackurn than most of them simply because of how much that game means. Especially to them now they cant beat us

I've never got the hatred towards them and, assuming we have no desire to be relegated, I'd wouldn't mind seeing them promoted to give us a local derby.

I never used to mind rovers until Walker came along, suddenly their fans turned into arse holes. I could handle the upturn in their club's fortunes, but they believed that as individuals, they were better off than us Burnley folk simply because their football club had money to spend. It is because of the way they went on that I never want them to win anything, not even the toss of the coin.

I confess that I had 20 quid on them to win away at Man Utd a good few years ago , using Betfair had got average odds of 37.5 to 1. I wasn't that fussed really but at those odds had to have a punt. I think they were 2-1 up then ManU equalised in about 85th and I thought Oh well. Then Rovers scored and for the last few minutes of the game, yes, I wanted them to win.

Villa Park, Feb 2010. Pre match down on the concourse was one of the the strangest sights ever: dozens of Burnley fans glued to the TV screens and whooping with delight as Rovers scored three goals in their early kick off. Hint: Bolton Wanderers.
