Has anybody got any idea how I can play back my old tapes through my smart tv .I used to be able to plug in a Scart cable into the old tv but there’s no slot in the new tv .
Looked on amazon for connecting cables but none seem to work with video cameras . Any suggestions greatly appreciated :)

Hi m8 I think you need a Scart to hdmi adapter.

Instead of trying to get a cable to fit your camera use the original scart cable....

You plug this into one of the hdmi ports on the back and your old scart lead plugs into this.... hope this helps :)

If you can connect a DVD player to the smart TV and then plug your camcorder into the DVD player you should (hopefully) be able to play your Hi8/Digital tapes through the DVD player and onto the TV screen. I used to do mine this way - but my TV wasn't a "smart" one. If you are able to play your tapes using this method you should also be able to record them onto a DVD so you can then use on a PC or other DVD player (after formatting). All a bit time consuming but worth it if it works. Best of luck with whatever you can do. UTC.
