Such absolute crackers over on their forum. Some of my favourites:

‘What is the point of Burnley? Horrible, awful team’

‘Burnley’s only objective was to ruin it for everyone’

‘Football lost today because of Burnley’s refusal to even try and play the game’

‘What a dreadful bunch of anti-football neanderthals’

‘At least we can get back to playing against football teams next week’

Comments like these show how much we're improving.

Also how little they know about football.

Eh? There was only one team trying to win that game, especially towards the end.
And why are we horrible?
Sure we play long balls (who doesn't?),but it's a bit unfair to say we don't pass it around.
And with all due respect, under Graham Taylor Watford were one of the original long ball teams.

They think that they are a top ten team and we are certainties for relegation.
It was my pleasure to tell them that they have finished in the top 10 of English football twice in 1982/3 and 1986/7 in 91 years of League football.
The laugh is that they think that Burnley fans are deluded!

How any team who has Troy Deeney as their main striker can lambast anyones style is beyond me and shows how much nonsense theyre talking.

(And I like Deeney and would have hin in our side any day - play to your strengths!)

I never understand fans who moan about the style of the opposition. I couldnt give two shits what style they play. As long as we get something.

I am not going to go to city next week and hope they play us off the park. Im hoping theyre going to have to battle. And hoof it. And go direct.

This was from the Blackburnegraph this morning from a (so-called Watford fan)

watford4ever 8 hrs ago

Unfortunately turned up to watch a game of football yesterday and was bitterly disappointed. The ball was probably only in play for a little over 35mins given Burnley's disgraceful time wasting tactics right from the kick off. Then long ball after long ball relying on physical presence, very little football skill. Our ballplayers having been kicked, elbowed and pushed over a few times decided not to mix it anymore so very little good football from either side. From what was on offer neither side deserved to win, but both sets of fans defiantly lost out if they came to watch football.

"Both sets of fans defiantly lost out if they came to watch football"

"Long ball after long ball"
"Watfords ball players"

Comedy gold....

I wasn't at the game but watched via a live stream .... I don't think this particular numpty watched the same game at all........

He made a great point of analysing how, in those days, the quicker the ball was in the opponents box and as often as possible, the more the likelihood of a goal chance. Hence, his long ball tactic.

Too clever for Watford, obviously!

Remember that most of these southerners voted "Remain" in the referendum. They're not that good at accepting results.

Adrian Mariappa said: “People moan about Burnley’s style of play because they don't like playing against them – simple as that.

“They have had great success, they were in Europe this year, so what they are doing is working. There is no right or wrong way to play football – it’s about winning games.”

I thought the same - some of the Twitter comments from Watford fans were amazing. I hadn't realised they had suddenly become the Barcelona of the Premier League. If we were "anti-football" then they were even more so as 1) they couldn't beat us and 2) we (with a lino with some balls) would have beaten them.

I think the Watford fans almost match Arsenal with their constant whinging.

Fair play to Mariappa. Who would you trust? A player who's just played against us or some soft, southern whiny sh1ts? I think I'd go with the PL player some how.

I thought we played quite well. It certainly wasn't all long ball and physicality. We mixed it up a little more than we have been doing, which is where we got our success last season. Watford were much more long ball and thuggery than we were ironically, but because they all thought they'd stuff little old Burnley 3-0, they're all having a sulk now and jumping on the 'Burnley are anti-football' bandwagon. ***** em

I can never quite work out if Watford genuinely think that we are the dirty side, when they have had the most sendings off in the last 5 years of any side in the Premier, and we have had fewest. Or if they just don't think; Burnley is from the North, therefore ...

Burnley long balls - 83
Watford long balls - 83

Had a read and was equally surprised.

Brighton mark 2.

We bossed the game, was comfortable, and we deserved to win.

Without Doucoure there is little to choose between the teams. The game at the Turf – they took their chances, fair play, but it was a ten minute spell that was the difference.

Please, we must never become like this as a set of fans. Still humbled to be in the Prem and enjoying it.

One of the many things we've got back to this last month, is opposition fans moaning about our style of play. When we play well, we nullify teams to nothing. Opposition fans just think their team had an off day, whilst the reality is we stifle clubs, force them into errors, and bully them into surrender. We don't get the credit we deserve for stopping teams playing their game, but who cares. We know how good we are.
Despite the good run we are on, I've watched the highlights of the Watford and West Ham games this morning. We have missed so many golden chances to score. We could have had 6 against WH, and at least 4 against Watford. When Wood and Barnes get on a scoring run we are going to bury some teams.

Last season it irked me somewhat that we didn't get any credit from opposing managers/fans etc for some excellent performances. What was funny was that prior to the game they were more than prepared to compliment and recognise our strengths. Until they lost, then those strengths morphed into some kind of crusade to kill the game of football.

This season I'm delighted to hear it over and over. Mariappa's comments are refreshing, and an acceptance that at our best we're really hard to beat. Half witted fans only see their team failing to impose their will on Burnley without recognising the skill in executing it.

I've just been looking to find out when Watford were last in a European competition, it appears they haven't been, and then I considered such a great footballing club as Watford must have won something in their time... again they have won the league in tier 3 and 4 a few times, but nothing of note. The FA cup perhaps... they lost a final once (I think I was there for that, because my dad got given free tickets to it - my first visit to Wembley).

I'm actually shocked that a team as great as Watford FC have done so little until recently where they appear to be famed for sacking managers and mediocre finishes in the Premier League.

In addition Rick, we are now in our 102nd season in the top two divisions of English football, whilst Watford are celebrating their 92nd year as a League club and it is their 42nd season in the top two divisions. Yet they think that we are deluded.
Mind you, we have to remember that football didn't start until 1992/3 season and since then Watford are in their 25th season in the top two whereas we are only in our 20th and this is their 6th season in the PL whilst we are only in our 5th ---really important facts in the history of football in the modern era! ;)

Nothing wrong with having Graham Taylor as a club hero, top man. You're right about the football, mind.

Comments from fans of other clubs about our football are a more reliable guide to how well we're doing than any form table.
