What will Sean's history show at Burnley?

In years to come when kids come to do the tour of the ground, what will be there to shows Sean's success?
You don't get trophies for surviving in the Premier League or getting kicked out of Europe early. He is choosing to not leave his mark in the trophy cabinet and I think that is a shame.

It's not like we were winning the Europa League under Cotts or owt. Or Coyle, or Laws, or Howe, or Stan, or doing anything worth mentioning before Dyche turned us into a PL team. Modern training ground & debt free, if future Burnley fans can't appreciate that they need a slap.

Its not about whether you like him or not. I love the guy and am eternally grateful to him, but I still “liked” the OP because I strongly disagree with Dyche’s attitude to Cup competitions.
Do I want him sacked for it? No. Do I wish he would try and give us a piece of silverware to remember him bu? Emphatically yes.

OP seeking self attention?
Sean has been incredible for this Club. We are a town Club but he deserves more respect than the OP has suggested. 2 promotions, 5 years in the PL, 7th place finish last year.
The Clubs success under Sean has created a sense of optimism and pride throughout Burnley and the surrounding areas.

If we had gone out and bought 5 x £20,000,000 players this month and played a full strength team today we would still not have won.
That is not Dyche's fault and Tuesday night is clearly a priority to the Club.
The board do not want us involved in cup competitions but to remain in the Premier League.
So lay off Dyche as he has his hands tied.
And as for your opening question his history will show at Burnley that he got us into the Premier League a couple of times and kept us there and got us into Europe for some of the most memorable days that we will ever have.

He will leave several legacies. Even if he leaves tomorrow.
That said those legacies are only worth so much for so long. The training ground will eventually age. Our unbeaten streak v rovers will eventually end. We wont have three england keepers for much longer. And the Prinny Royal will probably eventually close.
Therefore winning a cup would give him the greatest legacy of all.
We still talk about our FA cup win and two league titles now. And most of us werent even born.

Literally nobody talks about the FA cup win. One league title, perhaps, but none of that helps us keep Tarkowski if we're relegated. You need to be more realistic.

It's a strange one in he has been successful but in such a boring way. Often talks like yesterday of getting lulls into the game, a bit anti football if you like. Opposition fans hate watching our style and hope we go down.
This year was the time to kick on in style but he won't change a thing from his principles. Who knows how he will be remembered but hopefully the next man will play better football and be more successful.

I don't like the football we play a lot of the time but he has been an absolute legend of a manager for us and for that we should all be grateful. He's taken us to a place that I didn't think I would ever see and when he leaves us we will be a far healthier club.

We have seen some tremendous football at times under Dyche but there is an inevitable necessity to play in a pragmatic way given the quality of players we can afford compared to most clubs in our league.....I think many people perhaps fail to fully reflect on the magnitude of the achievements under him considering the scale and ownership structure/financial clout of our club. Has been a miracle worker for us.

We have to know our place and it’s in the also rans. Every year he keeps us in the PL is a bonus.

Yeh spot on - I never here any of our fans talking about beating Chelsea away or going 2-0 up at Old Trafford or equalising against one of the best teams the league has ever seen or 23 games unbeaten or winning the championship with 90 plus points or seeing our players win England caps etc etc
Nope....never heard them say any of that because they are constantly banging on about Bert Freeman’s goal more than a 100 years ago !
Ridiculous decision by SD to pick that side he did yesterday. City were there for the taking. If we would have picked our best team we’d be in the hat for the draw tomorrow....no way would we have been hammered 5-0 like we were when we did play our full side in the league against them a couple of months ago....no way !

23 23 undefeated...... championship winners
7th place in the premier league, against all odds..... playing in the Europa League
New training ground
Regular England internationals developed at Burnley
3 years in the premier league, an unlikely achievement
A proper team ethic

I love him as a manager and even during our big winless run this year I wasn’t calling for his head.
But it does **** me off that he treats cup competitions with such disrespect. Can you honestly tell me that you didn’t feel proud when little old Burnley beat Fulham, Chelsea and Arsenal to reach the semi-final of the league cup?

Have you ever stopped to think how many well known, household name, managers are out there, who have never won a league, never won a cup, never won anything.
There are a select few clubs that have monopolized the premier league and FA Cup over the last 2 decades. Managers outside those select few clubs that have broken through you can count on one hand and have fingers to spare.
Are they really leaving nothing behind because they never won anything.
We all want to win silverware, have a trip to Wembley, but what Sean leaves behind whenever he decides to go, will not be forgotten in a lifetime by any of us.

Missing the point though aren’t you. We are not the only team who have this approach. Infact the vast majority of teams in our division for the last 10 years have played weakened teams in both domestic cup competitions and a lot of championship teams also do this now.
Ignore any boll-ocks Pep is coming out with about respecting the cup competitions. He has assembled one of the most expensive teams in the history of the game. He had £300m of players on the pitch yesterday and another £300m who didn’t play....for anyone to think this is any kind of comparison to us is beyond ridiculous.
Ignore what United did on Friday. Even they left their best forward on the bench - but their strong team is purely down to the managerial situation. This is the same Man United who decided the cup was so important to the club that they excluded themselves from the competition a few years ago....SAF pretty much invented the concept of playing weakened teams in the cup.
Why are people upset at something everyone is doing ? That’s the way football has gone - follow another more grass roots sport like rugby league or c-ock fighting if you don’t like it.

Dyche will always be remembered fondly. But I think when we look back he will remembered as the manager who was nailed on to win the FA Cup/Europa League double but foolishly played slightly weakened teams.

I'm sorry, but fans who think that any criticism of the manager or the club makes you less of a fan really **** me off. The one thing I don't like about this board is how any fan gets immediate insults if they don't tow the party line. You don't see me attacking other fans on here. This is supposed to be a discussion board, not a love-in board.
I've been a season ticket owner at Burnley FC for 12 years and went on lots and lots of games before then, which means I supported them before they got anywhere near the Premier League. I'm not less of a fan because I don't like some aspects of how the manager works.
The two things I don't like about the club I am vocal about. And I have no doubt that all the apologists also don't think this is ideal, but continue to tow the line anyway Those things are:
1. Our transfer policy. We just fail to compete every window.
2. Our disrespect for any cup competition.
This isn't just disrespect for the cup, it is disrespect for the fans like me that pay to go and watch them.

And in the same way people like you churn out the same rubbish about “real fans” and not being able to criticise the club etc....I agree it’s just boring rhetoric on both sides.
So dealing with both your big issues about the club.
1. Transfers - personally I do not know any burnley fan who has not been critical to some degree about our transfer record at some point or other. The difference between me and you though is that you say we fail to compete in every window and me and most other fans see that we have made lots of good signings in the last 19 years which have given us some of the best players we have seen in a claret shirt.
2. Disrespect for the cup - see my above response and get used to us doing what every other team does or you are going to be fed up for a long time
