Wood - Offside

Why have the coaching staff not worked on his issue around consistently being offside? It’s becoming a running joke in the stands about the number of times that he is offside

Was he offside when he scored tonight?

Lots of the decisions are very tight (e.g Watford). He plays off the shoulder which means there's a string likelihood that he'll get a few per game

Seems some don't understand that

Very tight decision for disallowed goal in first half. Level for goal that counted and nowhere near offside compared to Uniteds equalizer

Id rather him be pushing it and playing on the shoulder. Than not being offside because he is too far behind play.

He made a good run and defender stepped up at the right time.

He hasn’t got blistering pace so will always play very close to the edge in terms of off/onside. It happens with players like that.

I used to get frustrated more with Gray as he had the pace and still played offside and took 5 minutes to stroll back all the time.

Wood also offers a good threat tirelessly closing down defenders which is something we’ve been lacking and for me is a big part of the return to form as we didn’t defend from the front too well for a while.

If only we had a front man with pace

Had we have lost the whole team and manager could have been targeted and hammered due to not losing away to one of the best teams in the country must be time to criticise one of our scorers.

It amazes me how 90% of this board can’t see that

I know. It wasn't a criticism.

Perhaps we could try playing the ball to him a fraction earlier, two sides to this debate, plus of course, intelligent defending by ManU.

Fans moan that we don’t have anyone who runs in behind. Wood makes runs in behind (some pay off, some don’t), fans kick off.

Can’t win.

Wood is in great form at the minute, enjoy it and get off his back.

Absolutely my point, can we adapt as a team to work around the issue?

Then thank the Lord Dyche picks and deals with the team and not you. I am definitely sticking with my own opinion and hope Wood and the team continue doing what they are doing.

3 goals in 5. He can be offside 50 times in the game as long as he gets one right and puts it away.

I’m not sure what this has got to do with picking the team. I also hope that Wood keep scoring but I also hope that we can further improve Wood by coaching him or the team to reduce the number of times that he finds himself offside

Just bringing this back up for those who were saying that there isn’t an issue with Wood being offside more than any other player every game

Tbh we’ve had Gray and now Wood consistently offside. Get the feeling it’s Dyche policy to play *absolutely* on the shoulder.

It's an easy one for the lino - if there is any doubt he may be offside it will always be given, as the chances are that he was.

Bed- lie in it.

Maybe, could be why his last minute onside 'goal' against Watford was ruled offside yet Aguero (who can never be offside because he's that good) gets to score the winner against Swansea (while clearly offside)

Actually statiscally true.

Offside more than any other player in the division. He’s been offside 42 times this season, which is 30% more than Mitrovic who is in second place.

nowt wrong with Wood, it's the lack of service that's the problem meaning he has to gamble every time we have the ball

He's crap. If he isn't scoring he's doing absolutely bugger all else. Defenders love him because it's like taking the ball off Mr Ed!!

Well if today, plus many other performances, is an indication of his gambling prowess, I'd be very tempted to give him the phone number of Gamblers anonymous.

He's always offside and generally misses even putting the ball even on target when he should really be burying them.

...and to think we got rid of Vokes who was more loyal and probably an equal scorer

He is having balls whipped into the 6 yard box every game. He has no natural ability to attack a ball, he is however very good at clapping the player who passed it in.

I'll add, I don't think he justifies his 50K a week wage though

As I said back in January before being shot down, we need to look at coaching this issue out of him or work on having the ball release earlier

I do t think you can coach being a donkey out of a player, when he's playing well he looks ok, if he's not playing well he is absolutely useless, can't hold the ball up, constantly bullied, awful first touch, crap in the air ,slow, always reactive.
His performance yesterday was shocking, and to think we got rid of vokes for him is a joke.

Not sure why he played on the shoulder so much yesterday. Morgan and Evans must be amongst the slowest defensive pair in the league

I have christened him "the nearly man".

If you watch him carefully he seems to always time his run/movement/jump so that he appears to be
putting the effort in but hardly ever quite gets there in time to affect play. The odd time that he does
mistakenly get there first he almost always cocks it up.

I don't rate him one bit - a waste of a shirt for the style of football we have to play because of the limitations
of our players.

I say get shut in the summer, but replacing him will take forever.
