Are we genuinely surprised

Well where to begin:
I just can't get my head around the dealings of transfers of late within this club. We are in the Premier League and if we take both the summer and winter transfer window we've only going to have brought in four new faces. For a club with ambition to stay in the league we should pump some funds into players to make sure we have adequate competition for places.
Crouch could turn out to be good if we get the ball in the right areas but rather than spending on new players in January we will have maybe a nice little profit.
Dyche saying every single press conference that it's a hard window is becoming embarrassing in my eyes, as there are players out their that clubs are willing to offload, Assombolonga and the likes.
Instead of tippy tappy bids season after season we should have put in a bid for Adams for example that could only be accepted!
If we get pulled into the relegation zone with five games to go we will seriously be ruing misses opportunities.
I've always kept the faith in Dyche and the board but only time will tell if we will stay up with the squad we've got, especially if we start to rack up a list of injuries!

No surprise at all. This is worse than no signings.
Like Brexit. No deal is better than a bad deal. At least I can get on with the rest of my day knowing it can't get any worse.

I genuinely don't understand how we can't attract players with the likes of Cork, Heaton, Tarks and Pope making the England set up of late under Dyche.

**** me, don't temp fate. I thought it couldn't get any worse than the last window, but it looks like I was wrong.
We still have time to sell Wardy and loan out Gibson, depriving us of cover and exposing our left side which would make us odds on for relegation.
With hours left on the clock no manner of self destructive tom foolery would surprise me.

I think the failure of our more recent signing (Wells, Gibson, Vydra etc) has us looking to try and make back some of the value these players are losing by not playing for us.
Trouble with deadwood is no one wants to buy it.

Is Gibson a failure? Give him a chance he’s been injured and his return to a reasonable level of fitness has come at the same time as the resurgence of Stark’s and Mee.

Harsh to call Gibson a failure - I certainly don’t think he will be. Wells has been doing er Well, so we may recoup a chunk of the money we paid out, if we sell.
Vydra remains a funny one but I don’t think the current thinking is anything to do with pulling money back. We’ve plenty to spend, if we wish to do so.

Why is Gibson a failure? He's contributed more than Tarkowski did in his first 6 months, and I wouldn't call Tarkowski a failure. Perhaps you would?

Don't think anything we do in the transfer market could surprise me any more. I'm already looking forward to how we're going to surpass this one in the summer!

Ok maybe too much to call him a failure.
I think it's dangerous to assume he'll 'Do a Tarkowski' just because the circumstances are similar. It was all doom and gloom when Keane left but Tark filled the void seamlessly without missing a step.
There's no gaurantee Gibson will do the same when Mee or Tarks go.

Gibson a failure because he's had injury problems and needed a hernia operation?
That's all I can scrabble together.

Gibson was regarded quite highly when Boro were in the Prem.

We are playing well at the moment, all of the Summer signings could be seen as future proofing, inc. Vydra & Hart. There is no need for the despondency most are posting. A key injury could make this post ********.

Ok, Gibson is neither a failure or a success. He's just here, but not playing right now.
My point was we've been loosing value on a large number of recent signings.

We've constantly moaned about not having enough wingers but Dyche hasn't given Vydra a game, if we want someone we need to give them some game time as currently we might of well not have bought any of the 3 summer signings as they don't play.
Same with Wells it's very strange

Not genuinely surprised but genuinely disappointed.
I'm sure Dyche said he wanted a winger fairly recently and yet no winger has or appears to be arriving.
It seems as if we have put in a couple of bids for Adams but that seems to have gone cold.
I've heard he can also play on the wing too.
It seems we want to prove you can survive in the top league without spending
much money and adding to the dry powder which must be stacking up.
I just hope it doesn't backfire and we can manage to stay up.
Keeping my fingers crossed that we do and don't get any injuries to key players
especially Barnes and Wood.

Post 13 says it all for me.
It's the case that there's a lot of drama-queenery around in the social media world nowadays but I wish it hadnt infested this board to such an extent. It's particularly galling because, by any objective assessment, we are doing well as a club.

Jesus wept, none do blind than those who will not see (I should know , I am an Optometrist lol) We have just sold a proven prem/champ striker for £7m,how many can you name that go for such a low price these days, look what Birmingham want for their player. We have replaced him with a 38 Yr old has been that cannot start in a average championship team. If Wood or Barnes become unavailable, what options do you suggest we have.
The big question is why did they do this, totally stupid.

I'm sure the surgency of McNeil has negated our need for a winger.
McNeil, Brady, JBG, Lennon. I know Lennon is out at the moment, but he will be back. 5 wingers would be a fifth of our squad. That's too many to carry without weakening another area.
Crouch on a short term contract, I haven't a clue what his deal is going to be, would fill a hole vacated by Sam. It's an odd choice given his age, but when you think about it, finding a player with his experience, that would be willing to come here short term, to be willing to warm the bench for most of the season, we couldn't have found much better. The more I think about it, the more sense it makes, and the bottom line is if Sean wants him, and he clearly does, then it should be good enough for the rest of us.

Neither Gibson nor Vydra are duds: they will have a big part to play in the team's development sooner or later. It was, after all, just a few weeks ago when Taylor was deemed by those er, in the know to be out of his depth, clueless, Leeds had our pants down blah, blah.
We are doing well, having come through a sticky start and are showing resilience as well as skill.
Crouch is coming as an impact sub, adding another dimension to our play if required and for very little money if the amount we're getting for Sam is to be believed.
All these whiners and moaners show one particular trait - none of them actually put forward the names of any realistic targets......it's just easier to snipe from the sidelines, I guess.

Actually, yes I'm surprised.
We are very close to the "trap door", we have a thin squad carrying five goalkeepers.
I'd have expected us to be trying to bolster the squad in terms of midfield and up front. There's about £120m immediately at stake, so why not invest a bit.

Replaced a striker with a much older, worse striker for £7m of which we have to give 25% to Wolves.
I shouldn’t be surprised by any nonsense after summer, but even by our standards this one I think tops it. We have become a complete and utter parody of ourselves in the market.
It’s almost impressive.

You don’t get value in January little if any big deals get done in Jan.
We have enough in the squad to stay up and then plenty in the kitty for the summer window
14 games to go keep smiling

5 games unbeaten and we still lie in 17th! We needed a couple of fresh players, IMO.

Unanimous view of Five Live pundits just now that signing Crouch a "no-brainer" for Sean. People do realise it's just until the end of this season right ? SD does know he is not the future.

Was the cupboard bare for the January window?
Or, was it just another disastrous transfer window following on from last summer?

£10 says SD will be impressed on just how well crouch has done in the 6 months come the summer and give him a 12 month extension. Think of the cash we’ll save.

Some have a view that this deal (and perhaps a lack of other deals) is causing additional risk in our fight against relegation.
Yet that is interpreted as being disappointed that results have been positive, because it has meant that they couldn’t criticise the club.
Strange way to look at it.
