So excited to have signed a player who, in Dyche's own words, "still has something to offer".
We are truly blessed

CT - i think youve managed to put down in words ( in a polite manner ) what most Burnley fans will ne thinking.
Oh my days, that video the club released to tell us he's signed.
Is it to try a build him us a a big signing, or is it simply getting us all to laugh instead of cry at what's been the 3rd consecutive symbolic window where our starting 11 hasn't been improved ( if there's no other incommings )

Nothing against Crouch personally - he's had a good career - but this seems like a truly shocking deal all round.

He's only here till the end of the season ..better having him here than an unsettled Sam Vokes..

At least the headline of the article fits with the state of the signing

He will wear number 15, leaving number 9 free.

It's a strange signing but if you want someone who can score a goal, has the height to cause problems at set pieces etc then he is probably going to do the job Dyche wants.

Baffled as well. By the time he is Dyche fit his contract will be up. BFC'S transfer dealings are totally weird. Midfield is our weakness and yet again no action unless there is something we don't know.

Did he have to buy his own shirt , can’t see the board going to all the expense of getting a custom fit one

I'm not comfortable bemoaning about a player after they have signed and put on the shirt, for better or worse that makes them one of us, but my resolve has been severely tested by the totality of todays transfer dealings as they currently stand.
Welcome to the club Peter, make us proud.

This is Burnley FC we’re talking about. They know very well they need to keep the balance of our dour persona with the bitter as well as the sweet

Strange deal all round. I can only assume that Dyche
a.) feels that Vokes will fetch more in January than in summer
b.) would prefer not to keep a player around who presumably doesn’t want to be here
c.) thinks that Crouch can offer the same impact as Vokes for the remainder of the season.
I couldn’t really argue with any of those reasons, the real disappointment is not adding to our squad by securing the signing of Adams.

The problem is the lack of future planning

Can't really be that shocking. I'm stunned to be honest that we've signed him, but we did the right thing in letting Sam go and bringing Crouch in has filled the hole temporarily and given us a few months to ensure we get the right replacement for Sam.

We’ve allowed a player to leave, as he wanted to get more game time, and replaced him with someone who’s happy to sit on the bench and might be able to offer something different in the last 10 mins of a game.
Personally, I don’t have an issue with it.
Should one of Wood or Barnes get injured, Vydra should be next in line anyway. Hopefully a better quality striker is coming soon, though.

To be fair, Sam wanted to go and wanted to go this week. For what he's given us over the last few years I think it would have been wrong to stand in his way. We weren't in a rush to part company, we gave him a new contract just three months ago, but once he'd decided he wanted to move on then I think we've played fair with him.

A "symbolic" transfer window according to one poster above. A malapropism or a subtle yet valid criticism ?

Thanks for the honesty CT. I'm not excited by the deal, but I think I understand it in the context of Burnley.
Other clubs with rich owners can afford to sell players like Sam, knowing they can throw money around at the last minute to sign a replacement. With BFC, we had to cover the eventuality that we couldn't get a replacement over the line, so taking Crouch on a free until the end of the season provided some insurance.
Selling Sam is clearly about the club doing the right thing for a player that has been loyal to us for a long time. I can't imagine many other clubs would put the welfare of a player above that of the team.

I don't think you have a clue with that comment. A new low? Don't make me laugh. Sam only wanted out because he knew his game time was going to be more limited with Barnes & Wood rightly ahead of him.

I can't say I'm excited, I don't think anyone can, but, as I posted further up the thread, we've played fair with Sam and this has given us longer to sort out a long term replacement for him.

Have we, in effect, taken over his contract for the rest of the season? Surely it wasn't like a proper signing with fees involved and wage negotiations? Was it?

Fair enough. No point having a disgruntled player around who would rather be getting minutes elsewhere and Sam deserves to be treated fairly.
The frustration with many on here seems to be that we appear to have failed in our bid to sign Adams and unfortunately it looks like they’re going to take that out on Crouch.

I've tried to find positives that he might just offer but I've failed miserably. This has to rank as one of the most bizarre transfers in all my time as a Burnley fan. The first of,what is it, 14 vital league games on Saturday is a key fixture where after an uplifting point at Old Trafford the supporters ought to be in a positive frame of mind. They may well still be but our transfer inactivity has done absolutely nothing to whet their appetite. As Manuel from Fawlty Towers might say, 'it's crazy ............ crazy.

Apparently I've been quoted by Stoke
Tony Scholes said: “Peter’s contribution to Stoke City has been outstanding and he has become an iconic figure in the history of the Club.
“His recent playing time with us has been limited and when the opportunity to return to the Premier League with Burnley came along he was understandably keen to join them.
“Peter leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club and will always be welcome back at the bet365 Stadium.”

Leave the lad alone, he's a Burnley player now and deserves our backing and support, whatever
your opinion of the signing. Who are we to question the opinion of our manager. He doesn't get too
much wrong in the great scheme of things.
He's now a Claret, one of us, so welcome him with open arms into our very special little family.
A very warm welcome from me Peter.

Unless we sign a striker tonight that can play a full 90 minutes, we are taking an unnecessary gamble with the fitness of wood and Barnes and with the former's erratic confidence.

I don’t know what to say. Surly if Vokes was unhappy and wanted to go we would’ve known this weeks if not months ago, meaning we could have got a better replacement then this.
I think ewe are all confused. What is actually going on? Last season we finished 7th and qualified for Europe, this season we have signed a 38 year old has been lamp post. I’m really confused by which direction the powers that be are steering the club at this moment in time. I just don’t get any of it in regards to this sigining at all. Head scratcher for sure.
