About to collapse. The fashion and clothing industry is being bollocked for those distasteful "black faces" shoes and tops. Banning orders are imminent and also in the firing line are the top selling wigs; "The Jock ", with it's Tam O'Shanter and orange hair and "Scouser With Tash", both considered to be highly offensive.

Are "kiss me quick" hats still allowed?
Or maybe they've become "Kiss me if we're both suitably sober and have given written permission for some bodily contact" hats.

There must be a good bit of it that we missed then.

Only there for a day to be fair, and you have to remember that I have Morecambe on my doorstep!

In my teenage years I and a few mates supported the Skeggy economy whole heartedly, purchasing large quantities of lager and condoms!

Went to Butlins with the family in summer. Ventured out to the local supermarket once and my God it made Burnley look like Kensington.
People who appeared to be off their faces, everywhere (mid afternoon during the week). Whilst at Morrisons an old lady was also knocked down by a drunk old chap on a mobility scooter.
The whole town just looked dirty and run down to me.

We were only there for a day too but it felt much longer! Take your point about Morecambe though.

"bracing" was a nicer way to say "cold" in the 50's
Probably invented by Butlins.
Skanky, grimy, grim hole riddled with drug re-habs, slot machines, fag ends and dog sh1t...and more chewing gum than visible pavement.

Scratby is in Norfolk, close to Great Yarmouth. Skegness is in Lincolnshire.
Oops, hadn't noticed who had posted this. Note to self - Must be more observant.

True, but there are a few seaside resorts in the UK that are still quite pleasant.
Llandudno and Torquay are two that spring to mind.

Hmmmmm.... Torquay ?
There are a few reasonable bits dotted around the harbour/marina area...but the reality of Torquay in 2019 is that it's attracted half the low-life and deadbeats from across the south west. Away from the sea front, parts of it are as bad as Duke Bar, Shadsworth and Burnley Wood. Another grotty seaside town that's more or less on it's arse.
Can't speak for Llandudno.

Llandudno has always managed to tick over quite nicely, although it's helped by the Gt Orme with its mine etc.
The town council do their best to ensure the place is tidy, ever since I was a kid it's been a nice clean place.
I've never been to Torquay though so can't comment.

Llandudno is lovely, but if you don't walk on the Great Orme you are seriously missing out.

When my eldest was a toddler we were offered a static caravan for a week free of charge by extended family. My recollection of Skegness was that it was a dump. We were meant to be there a week, but left after 4 days.
I seem to recall driving out to find other places to spend the day nearby and realising that Skegness was in the middle of nowhere.
I can’t imagine ever going back.

It's for tourists. Having been brought up in a seaside town, and lived in several more, there were always bits for tourists/holidaymakers/Londoners/foreign language students/old people on coaches, and bits for normal people. If there is a bit of Skegness that is for normal people, then I never found it. I can only remember being at one worse seaside town and then I was so small that I now can't remember where that was.
Porthcawl is also pretty dreadful.
Boston on the other hand I very much like. I could happily live there. Norwich too.

Sure is, if you like traffic jams. twee shops full of plastic knic-knacs from Taiwan, crappy over-priced chocolate box paintings, gulls pinching your chips, crowded cramped pubs full of plastic glasses and plastic drinkers..and greasy spoon cafes....go for it...I'd sooner have piles.

Think most traditional British holiday resorts have long since fallen victim to foreign destinations. Some however do still retain their charm, most notably Southwold in East Anglia. A real jewel in the crown.

Southwold is completely colonised by the London middle-class with branded shops a-plenty and prices generally to match. I went last year and was taken aback by how much it has changed (for the worse) in that respect over the last 10-15 years. Whitstable in Kent is another place suffering from a similar effect but to me still feels more "real" than Southwold. I mean I paid £3.95 for a bloody toasted teacake at a cafe in Walberswick just outside Southwold.
