The day I finally understood what people meant by ""crappin" myself.

cornered isolated and cut off by skinheads on the east bank...really was rough

We parked down lower Darwen so walked to Ewood from the other side so missed all the fun.

There are a few escapades I remember concerning awaydays at Rovers, but I'm struggling to pin one down to any particular match.
You maybe able to help with one or maybe two of them.

I remember for one rovers away match we got the train at rosegrove for some reason instead of Burnley Central.
I recall chatting to your good self on the platform.
I think it was that same match where before the train arrived at mill hill,we all piled off while the train was sat at signals.
we caused a bit bother on making our way to Ewood.

I recall an incident on the way back from a rovers match when again we all piled of the train just before rosegrove and most of us walked down Accy road towards town and some morons thought it fun to chuck a few stones over towards the terraced houses across the road and smash a few windows.

Not sure if these 2 are from separate occasions or the same day.

're that game going under the bridge was a bit scarey when we went under a door came flying down lots of Burnley ran up embankment near the fair to confront them Bstards then tried to ambush is on a small park area to the right after the bridge but Burnley charged them ably led by one of the local psychopaths of the time Shaune Bradbury him with the straight leg limp and bstards got a real pasting.
Scarey days and I wouldn't want them back.

I know shaun Bradbury from years back he is struggling now with illness
We went on a 21st do for Gaz Bradley's birthday to Blackburn nowt to do with football
Hired a double decker bus with some right nutters
The first pub we went in was the pub around the corner from the Adelphi under Morrisons cant remember its name but it had loads of partions with bullseye glass in and before half of us got served.
Stools a chairs were getting thrown through them smash the pub to peices
It was quick mount back on the bus i thought that be that
It went on to Whalley and it proper kick off out side every one of the four pubs
Poilice arrived in force and was chucking anyone in the back of the vans others were trying to pull them back out it was mad as
When it calmed down and most were back on the bus their was a police escourt back to Burnley
With 17 police vehicles with blue lights going
This just put more excitement on it as nearly every window on the upper deck got kick out
As the bus pull up outside the Thomson center i so the police running over to stop us getting off as they wanted to nick everyone on the bus
I just pushed through the door with all my might and legged it onto the bus station grab hold of a bird in bus que and told her to say we where a couple
Anyway everyone on that bus got took to the station and charged with causing criminal damage and affray
It made the papers and the driver had to say he'd and his bus had been hijack and forced into it mad mad night that

I remember that game on the Easter Monday. We went on the fairground, I think it was after the match. What's the ride called that's like a spin drier? Remember going on that ride.

I also remember Ewood in 1976 - as I was driving an Austin 1100 that I only had that year. I remember my car being surrounded by Rovers fans, but nothing threatening, just made my way carefully thru the crowds.

That day when Cochrane won it for us at Ewood was absolute mayhem, inside and outside the ground. Rovers fans were allowed to stand right up to the corner fencing in the Riverside (it was terracing then) so were really close to us in the Darwen End. Bricks, bottles and goodness knows what were raining both ways for the entire game and lots of people were taken out hurt and bleeding. There were several "forays" onto the pitch by the corner flag and I think the game may even have stopped a couple of times. I remember one Rovers fan jumping onto the pitch around the half way line and charging for the Darwen End only to be brought down by the coppers just short. (Shame!) The game was awful, but where we were you daren't actually watch it in case something came flying at you. Some people have suggested Cochrane's goal was actually an intended cross which caught in the strong wind and deceived the keeper. Only he really knows.

Was it Boxing Day '76 where we were 2-0 down with about 10 minutes left and we got two and made a draw? Absolute pandemonium in the Darwen when the second went in!

I think it was also in '78, Norman Jones got dragged out of the Blackburn End with most of his shirt ripped to shreds.
I was in the Nuttall Street paddock close to the Blackburn End, plod frog marched him away right in front of us.
The seats in the stand behind us were given to Burnley fans.

The only person suggesting that was Jack Holden I think.....I was at that game and TC's goal was an absolute beauty. One of my big regrets is that there doesn't seem to be any video footage of it at all.

How can he say that was a cross? Beat a couple and chipped the keeper from the edge of the box.

Remember walking with me dad past the fairground on the way back to the car and bottles getting lobbed at us off the ferris wheel.

Sorry to douse on your nostalgic chips with my excess water; but I am so glad I can take my 3 young kids to a game with the potential of any of this nonsense likely to happen.

Leave it in the past. It wasn't clever then and sounds even worse when heard now.

Who said they ran away not one topic, most probably had a go and joined in the fun after all that's what most went for back then and you knew the the potential scene
You had to be on your toes that's for sure people just dont sky write that they may of Murdered a few.
I was on the 10 to 10 train from Burnley in 82/83 when the roof went missing, causing the game to be stopped asbestos cladding being pelted across the pitch Casper having to plead with the fans as they climbed into the rafters ripping the roof off riot police rampaging into the Darwin end on horses trying to restore order
That's after 350 fans braking off the train at Accy causing mayhem for hours walking all the way to Ewood

I need to check fixture list to aid my memory. I know I got the Austin 1100 some time after "the summer of 76" - because I had another, very unreliable car that summer. It may have been boxing day, but I don't remember it being particularly cold that day. I'd got rid of the Austin October 1977, so it could be 1977....

Some memories fade, some are easily recalled.

Definitely Boxing Day 76 when we got two back in the last 10 mins. Noble and Brennan were the scorers I think.

Their fans seem to think that they took over the Turf on Boxing Day 77 or 78?

According to their fans they brought 12-15,000 (bit of a swing that) and filled the away side of the Longside by 2pm, the entire Cricket field stand, and had the majority of the Bee Hole End and some in the home end of the Longside.

According to some of our fans it was closer to 6,000, and they had a section of the Cricket Field, as well as the away side of the Longside, and a few small groups in the corner of the Bee Hole bear to the Bob Lord, who got marched around the ground.

Which story is true?

11-15,000!!!

You mean according to this complete nugget. "Biggest crowd at Turf Moor for fifty years"

His best one is the fact that it was Blackburn & Celtic fans who caused all the carnage in the Anglo Scottish Cup game.

At 2-0 down on Boxing Day, Brian Hall made a fantastic save on the line, the resultant penalty was saved by Alan Stevenson, we would have been dead and buried if that had gone in.
Straight red card these days.

Oh I wouldn't believe Jimdo the Bimbo, although many of their fans do. I just wanted opinions and memories of those on here. We must have had at least 1,000 season ticket holders in the Cricket Field Stand for a starter, and most people I know can't seem to remember their fans in the Bee Hole End at all.

Their previous attendances prior to that Boxing Day game were:

Millwall 10,295
Palace 12,119
Mansfield 8,796
Southampton 9,930
Stoke 10,221
Charlton 6,888

I was there too and totally agree. He scored down at the other end (Blackburn End) so it wasn't easy to see exactly what happened. One minute there seemed to be nowt happening, suddenly Cochrane launches one and next news it's in the net. I do have a clear and vivid mental picture of their goalie diving and groping at thin air as it sailed in. Such a shame most games were never filmed back then.
