Back pay question
Had a look on the internet and can't find an answer. We were due a pay rise in May 2018, and we've now been told we will get it in May this year. This will be about £1000.My question is, if i leave my job before then am i still entitled to my payback? I work on the shop floor and i'm hourly paid and i work for a leading food manufacturing company. Thanks in advance.
Re: Back pay question
If the agreement is that the pay rise will be back dated then normally you will be just as entitled to it as somebody who is not leaving.
Check with your manager or personnel department though

Re: Back pay question
Unless the pay award has a caveat saying only those in employment at the time of the agreement are entitled to the pay award.

Your first point of call should be your Trade Union officer at Branch or Head Office as part of your subscription should be free legal assistance if it comes to it.

Re: Back pay question
You are entitled to it, but it will be a hell of a lot harder to get it if you're not working there.

Thanks for your help, i am in the union so i'll ask the question, waiting over a year for back pay just seems like a joke to me.

It certainly is out of order and not only should you get "your" back pay owed to you but with interest as well.Cocker Claret wrote:Thanks for your help, i am in the union so i'll ask the question, waiting over a year for back pay just seems like a joke to me.
Have you not got a TU rep/shop steward in your department? as he or she should have been on the case ages ago.
Oh by the way a Companies personal department will be on the Companies side and not yours in most cases in my experience.

No. There's no way in which you "should" get this unless there's something specific in the pay award. You just made that up.South West Claret. wrote:It certainly is out of order and not only should you get "your" back pay owed to you but with interest as well.

Re: Back pay question
I'd like, if we have one, an HR professional to interject. I don't see how it couldn't be due, assuming, as I think is the case here, that this is a standard rise across a group of TU-negotiated workers. But I'd like to understand if that's wrong.

If an Employer and Employees have agreed a wage rise then that wage rise should be honoured, if it isn't it's only reasonable that the Employees can expect interest on "their" money that has been withheld by the Employer unless agreed.thatdberight wrote:No. There's no way in which you "should" get this unless there's something specific in the pay award. Not lying. Just making things up with no shred of evidence.South West Claret. wrote:Don't accuse people on a public MB of lying without sufficent evidence.
