Yes.
1st goalscorer bet, if it wins, directly affects the probability of your second bet winning.

By the way, if you've done bets that way before, paired 1st goalscorer and team to win as a double, then you should be entitled to your losing bet stakes back too. So if you've still got losing bet slips then take those in and get those returned to you since they're void.
And in future, ask the bookies for their 1st goalscorer + team to win prices and place the bet that way as a single.

I don't know anything about betting, however, it seems odd that you can 0lace 2 bays and then pay extra to link them, only for that link to be 'void' if it actually happens!
That bet should not be permitted to be taken and if it is accepted, should be paid out.
If it had not come to pass, they would not have returned your money, if asked, had someone pointed out it was a 'false bet'.

I agree, it seems a strange set of affairs, you either win or lose & the bet came in, maybe its me not understanding the bet, but the bet was accepted on the basis of what transpired.

It's also void even if it doesn't win.
It's a scummy practice to even accept the placing of the bet because most of the time it doesn't win and the punter doesn't know the bet was void anyway. For the punter it's an unwinnable bet. So if the OP's placed more than a few of these bets then i encourage him to make a complaint to the bookie in writing (email is fine). He doesn't necessarily need the bet slips, although they'll help, he just needs to remember what the invalid bets were and the approximate time they were placed, and include those in the complaint.

Do people still actually place bets in bookmaker shops?

Related bets are not accepted but a local bookie worth his salt could probably work you a price out.....would love to know how many of those bets ever get returned to punter as void....if you have done them before in that shop then ask them to check their records for all the losers you placed...if you can remenber the dates....their staff should be trained not to accept illegal bets....rule is that if you cant win then you cant lose.

Similarly, if a horse was 10/1 to win the 2000 guineas and 10/1 to win the Derby you could back it in singles to win both both races but not couple them in a double at those prices. You would have to ask the bookmaker for a special price for the horse to win both races since it's chance of winning the Derby greatly increases if it has won the first classic race.
