I had wondered if a club here might try and sign him. Morally it would still be frowned upon, but what he did would not actually have been illegal here and that might affect the thinking.

Wonder if Owen Oyston would have signed him for Blackpool.....

What message do you think it sends? There's a difference between the media outcry that will come with his signing and the purported message it sends vs what it should be; that those who pay their debt to society have the right to rejoin it. He's not going to have an easy time by any stretch, and the nimbyism element to this will mean he'll have to drop quite a few levels before a club, on balance, thinks it's worth the fall out to get the quality in return. Or as you say he ends up in the far East but the publicity might even scupper that.

Hasn't he been in prison for a couple of years? He's 32 this summer so I don't think he'd be playing at the same level regardless of the moral issue of signing him. He's probably out of shape and a bit rusty and may be well past his peak anyway. Agree he may have to go abroad.

Agree. If you commit a crime you get punished, serve your punishment and move on. He shouldn't be denied the right to earn a living. Who in their lives hasn't made a mistake or even committed a crime and maybe been lucky enough to not get caught? I have known quite a few guys who have been inside and they laugh at this business about prisoners having some kind of 'ethical code' that see's them beating up sex offenders and child abusers when in fact half the guys doing the beating are often guilty of the same things but have never been caught. One guy I knew, a mate who is unfortunately now no longer with us, spent half his adult life in prison and he said that prisoners were the most awful hypocites when it came to sex crime.

Outrage is a funny thing and has to be viewed in the context of your own life. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I don't think he got long enough for what he did but, in the absence of being able to make a change to the law, I accept that he's done his time as our society sees fit and has to be allowed to get on with his life now. Depending on what statements he makes acknowledging the facts and magnitude of what he did,if a club, including Burnley, chooses to employ him, so be it. I won't be needing a pitchfork, so IT can have one in each hand.

If he now signed for Burnley (and I know that won't happen) I would have to support another team, and I have supported Burnley for almost 50 years.

He served his time now is/was captain for his club.

People quickly forgot about Luke McCormack, I presume Adam Johnson could be similar from a employers point of view, although most definitely not from the fans.

She was 15 but the court accepted his evidence that she said she was 19 and they met in a nightclub. Sounds fair enough to be honest, he got the minimum sentence and was a totally different case to Johnson's to the extent he's allowed to work with juniors now.

Still had to sign the sex offenders register for 12 months though. Can't be too careful!

apologies, the statement kind of asked for that primarily because of the unconscious bias that people have that those who are predatory against children in a sexual manner are men. You're right to highlight, whether you intended to or not, that women (and girls for that matter) are also capable of being predatory.

I was 15 and the 'older woman' was 18. She was a Claret though - we met in the old clock end at Old Trafford during a league cup tie. As in your case I felt far from violated and it was one of the best moments of my life when it happened (even though I was probably sh!t at it). I think you are old enough when it feels 'right'. Eventually pleaded guilty and one assumes did three years without any problems, so standard 50% remission in jail although he will remain under licence and can be recalled at anytime if he violates his parole conditions
