Jussie Smollett
Charges against him dropped. What a mess.
I couldn't find the thread posted by someone celebrating the charges against him otherwise i'd have posted it in there, so apologies if this is a duplicate thread. Maybe it was deleted because it was addressed to me for no reason.

Re: Jussie Smollett
Strange turn of events.
“After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollet’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition & appropriate resolution...”
He was on 17 felony charges or something?
Oh well, hopefully the truth will out as it's all a bit fishy.
Can't remember there being a thread on here previously. I did follow the story as it developing over the weeks and it was absolutely fascinating. Now it's getting even weirder. Too much popcorn is never too much popcorn.

Sounds a bit like the police have given up - probably not in the public interest to continue to pursue a prosecution.

If that's true it's pretty weak. People who lie like that should have the book thrown at them.Foulthrow wrote:Sounds a bit like the police have given up - probably not in the public interest to continue to pursue a prosecution.
Re: Jussie Smollett
Are the cops not concluding though that it's a waste of money to keep pursuing this? The guy's reputation is in the toilet anyway now and to waste x amount of dollars to only be able to fine him or some such. (I will add that I've not followed this case in it's entirety though)Imploding Turtle wrote:If that's true it's pretty weak. People who lie like that should have the book thrown at them.

Re: Jussie Smollett
It'll be up to the DA to pursue it or not. But my understanding is that it was a judge that dismissed the charges, possibly at the request of the DA.Foulthrow wrote:Are the cops not concluding though that it's a waste of money to keep pursuing this? Re: Jussie Smollett
The impromptu press conference where his lawyer seemed to accept the two brothers (both black) had committed the assault but the actor insisted he had been truthful and consistent throughout (he claims at least one attacker was white) was quite something.
A mess but nothing to do with us. I'd presume that the state decided the public spectacle of "not all black people are good and some may even game the system" (yeah, we know already) would be construed as "all black people are bad and there are never any issues with racism" by some and just decided in the bigger scheme of things to let it go. But maybe more will come out.

Re: Jussie Smollett
It stinks but it’s a “ public interest “ / political job no doubt . America really really doesn’t want a high profile race related “ take your sides” type case right now , never mind the gay issue thrown in . Also as one of only 6 gay black men on earth it could be construed as highly prejudicial .
If this was a genuine attack they’d have got the perps and literally ( ahem) hung them out to dry . If you read the defence lawyers statements they are remarkably coy and simply want this forgotten .
I personally think it’s the right decision when the surrounding political issues are taken into account . Though the “ crime “ itself was carried out with all the realism of a three stooges sketch .

Re: Jussie Smollett
Probs came from some Uber liberals in the upper echelons of the judiciary . Thing is the “ crime “ he reported was a serious race hate crime ( beaten up poured in bleach and a rope put round his neck )
A complete and utter mess that wasn’t helped by Trump tweeting his views the utter tool.

It's always liberalisms fault, one way or another, isn't it? Can't just be corruption, it has to be the whole ideology.
Also, this ******* comment from the assistant state's attorney, "Here's the thing -- we work to prioritize violent crime and the drivers of violent crime. Public safety is our number one priority. I don't see Jussie Smollett as a threat to public safety."

This guy, if he is guilty, has damaged the public perception of every single hate crime in the future. There's no doubt in my mind that there will be **** who see this and decide to commit hate crimes because 1) they'll do it as revenge, and 2) they'll think they can get away with it by citing this case and accusing the victims of lying.
Whether he's guilty or innocent, they have managed to find the absolute worst way to resolve it.

Re: Jussie Smollett
Personally I think Smollett’s an utter dick; a selfish and foolish dick.
If I had my way, I’d gaffer-tape him into a wooden chair and push him down some stone steps.
