The Heaton “ howler” not even an error

Noticed a few giving TH low marks on the ratings thread mentioning a “ howler / terrible error” etc for the 2nd .
However there was actually no mistake at all . The ball gets smashed in hard from outside the box (low/med height) Heaton starts the big dive to his left and has it totally covered .
The ball then either takes a very slight deflection off the left shoulder of a Burnley player , maybe Mee? but either way veers back to the right . TH,now mid dive ,somehow manages to twist a hand back to make a v good save but then has zero chance with the point blank follow up .
2 very unlucky goals to concede to be fair .

It's a mistake. He should have done better and he knew it. He won't want excuses making.
He recovered to have a steady game otherwise but just like a referee it's the mistake that gets remembered.

On reflection and having now seen the incident severaI times I don't think it's a save that Tom "should" have necessary saved.

Tend to agree with op.
Lucky with the effort off the bar but opposite with both goals. No chance with 1st. And 2nd,, for whatever reason,. did seem to change direction a bit

Richarlason was in an offsite position as the shot went in another mistake in a night of many mistakes by the officials

Richarlison wasn’t active so it doesn’t matter.

Think the ball deviated just as it got to Tom. If you watch the replay it did seem to move at the last second. Hence why Tom just stuck his hand up as the ball got to him because he was already getting in to position for the original path. Might be wrong though, only saw the replay twice.

While the ball deviates like it’s taken a light deflection and the commentator actual says he thinks its taken one , on very close inspection the ball could just as easily have taken a late swerve without any contact . Either way there is no goalkeeper error .
The link may have 1 minor pop up .

the mistake was allowing DIgne to do exactly what he did at the Turf - have the freedom of the pitch to have a shot

Just shown it on Football Focus. No deflection at all, but some swerve on the ball.
