Quote: The tradeable Fan Tokens are limited in number, and their price is driven by the market according to Socios.com. They say the platform is being developed to help sports teams “increase fan engagement and achieve essential investment from fan-monetization”.
So, are West Ham aiming to be the first "virtual" football club, paid for by a crypto-currency.
I guess they took their first step down that road when they moved to their tax payer paid for stadium.

“The Socios model runs counter to that as it attempts to monetise fan engagement which the leagues and clubs have committed to doing for free."
If this is West Ham's sole Supporter Liaison then it can't possibly comply.

" increase fan engagement and achieve essential investment from fan-monetization " ... translated means " screw the gullible morons for even more " ..
Two-hats !! Mind you I don't suppose sales of " Rustler " and " Playbirds " are adding much to the profits these days !!

Sounds like the love child of Lee Hoos.
The club that brought us all that well-'ard, cockerney, jellied eels, pie 'n mash, knees up mother Brown, bovver-booted imagery, now goes down the virtual plastic route to oblivion.

It's only like the rich people, who were Man Utd fans 5 years ago buying corporate at the Turf, or the best tables at the awards do and having their pictures of themselves with the players splattered all over social media.

Whenever you hear the word “ monetise “ in football terms it makes you shudder as to what mug punter absurdity the corporate bean counters have come up with .” Fan tokens “ you couldn’t make it up! Though in this “ golden “age of football you’d probs have a corporate waiting list if you charged fans 10k to hold ” their fav players “ c0ck when he’s taking a p1ss

I don't understand how this works but when words like 'fan monetisation' are being thrown around it sounds decidedly fishy.

Fans are just customers. I think the secret to running a successful club is make them feel like they are not.
