Anyone been to the Monaco GP,definitely on my bucket list,what sort of vantage points round the circuit can a non millionaire like me get a good view from?

Went in 1996. Wet race won by Olivier Panis - 1 of only 3 cars to finish. We had an access only ticket which was the cheapest available and no seat. We found a spot on a small hillside which was a great view and a lot closer than it looks on TV - we could see right down the pitlane. At one point we walked down into the principality area a matter of feet away from the track. We found a bar that was showing the race on TV - bought a £12 pint - watched the screen but with live sound. Well worth a trip.

Ridden it on my motorbike, but not been to the GP I’m afraid.

I was in Monaco a couple of years ago the week before the Grand Prix so all the grandstands were set up ready. Looked like plenty of good vantage points but guess the tickets are not cheap.
If you are going to go i’d recommend stopping in Nice - lovely city with an old and new bit and you are right next to the sea - when you land at the airport it’s a stunning view. Only half an hour on a train from Nice to Monaco.

Ricky Hatton tried to make people think he was Geri Horner and blag his way onto pit lane.... Needless to say not many were fooled

I drove around the track way back in the 1990 - You had to go the wrong way down a one way street near the casino and do an illegal u-turn near the harbour at Rascass. I was told that around 500 people a year were prosecuted for doing the run so I was lucky I had got away with it!

We missed each other. We walked the full course and the pit lane. Also stayed in Nice but travelled over on the bus. Catch it at Nice Port and it’s only €1.
I would suggest the best view is from the wall outside the Palace but I would imagine that area is ticketed race day. Although there were no seats set up when we looked over.

For the OP all Nice busses along the coast are €1, E. to Menton and W. To Cannes. From the airport into Nice is €6 and a rip off. Walk 50m to the highway and pay the 1.

£12 for a pint At least you wouldn't have to worry about how you received your change.

A couple of years ago Martin Brundle mentioned on commentary that after qualifying him and 3 of the Sky team had a drink and a round of 4 beers cost them £125, though no doubt they just added them to some Sky expense form and got the money back.

Hamilton moaned from lap 26 and stayed out the whole race, as his team would not contemplate pitting him.

Even after he won, he said they chose the wrong tyres.

F1 is pathetically predictable and boring these days. Should be the most exciting of course, but is way, way off, and that says much about the latter day governance and manufacturers.

They did choose the wrong tyres, the fact he won doesn’t change that. They were lucky that they had LH driving.

It was more likely to rain than not, so correct choice.
Only hindsight could decide otherwise.

They were luckier it was Monaco, where overtaking is a major gamble. On a racetrack he’d have finished fourth.

It's pretty much the worst race of the year and has been for years. It only gets exciting if there is an accident or sudden rain.

Having fatter cars has made overtaking there even tougher. Most of those drivers are capable of chugging around at the front and holding the others at bay if they have a car that is fast enough to power away a bit into the tunnel.

The cars need to be thinner and if it is to be a spectacle, something more needs to be done to generate more parity between teams. Its getting like the Scottish league - perhaps closer to the Spanish one as at least bottas exists. If verstappens car was somewhere near on a par with the Mercedes, I suspect he'd be winning titles.
